24.01.2022 After a lot of on again off again due to Covid a Carnegie resident recently took delivery of a Lions Hearing Dog. Kym is profoundly deaf and communicates with Auslan sign language. She will use Chloe, much as a Blind person uses their Seeing Eye Dog. When the doorbell rings or an unexpected noise happens, Chloe is trained to react and tell or lead Kym so she can see what is happening. Chloe is currently in her 3 months trial with Kym. The Lions Hearing Dog Centre in South Aus...tralia trained Chloe for 6 months before being allocated to Kym. Kym is pictured here with Chloe and Lions Damien,Karon and Club President Glenys. They will call on Kym during the probation period to ensure Chloe is doing her duties. Kym who lives in Carnegie works part time so will be out and about with Chloe, so give her a wave if you see her. Lions train these dogs at a dedicated facility in the Adelaide hills. Each dog costs $30,000 to train, they are provided to the end-user at no cost. Carnegie Lions donated $2000 from funds raised locally towards this. The Centre receives no ongoing Government support and is totally supported by public donations and bequests. In the second photo are the two trainers with President Glenys. They brought Chloe across from SA and settled her in For further information on this or to enquire about Lions generally contact Carnegie lions at the address above or Click or the direct link below https://lionshearingdogs.com.au/

23.01.2022 Lions are active even if we have to have our meetings online. To our members this was our first online effort. After a few hiccups and with the help of our younger offspring we had a successful meeting and, as soon as we are all allowed out of our homes, we will be out in the community, meanwhile we will polish up on our computer skills for our next online meeting. LIONS WE SERVE.

23.01.2022 +Following our previous post about Hearing dogs, I can introduce "Spud" who is fully trained as a Hearing dog, but is wishing the Pandemic would disappear so he can take up his new job as a resident of Carnegie

21.01.2022 It was nice that we as Lions got a mention on the official Government house Diary, if we get photos we will post later

20.01.2022 It's always great when we can help in the local area... Carnegie Lions have recently Auspiced(acted as Guarantor) for a group of local residents who received a grant that they are using for beautifying their local lane that is used as a pedestrian walkway by the residents. Another way Lions assist in their community https://www.facebook.com/CarnegieLaneway/

19.01.2022 For many of us city residents the drought is long forgotten, but the Lions need for feed project has been operating continually thanks to public donations and support for many corners of Australia and the world. Carnegie Lions Club wants to thank all our fellow Lions who contributed their time and efforts, as well as the truckies who gave not only their time but often their trucks and trailers. Regardless of their own situation many others contributed as well. We thank you all

19.01.2022 Victorian Lions clubs have combined to build a mobile testing Trailer, that will be manned by trained volunteers. It will travel around Victoria and invite the public to be checked for skin cancers, it will promote awareness about the dangers of Melanomas and the need to take care in the sun. So next time you see a Lion selling sausages or Christmas cakes, or manning a stall, its quite possible that any profit they make will be returned to you by diagnosing a skin cancer you never noticed.

18.01.2022 Lions hearing dogs are looking for a name for their newest trainee

18.01.2022 The club is all geared up with our trailer and popcorn machine, come along ang enjoy the fun

17.01.2022 Yes, we are all self-isolating, but that's not stopping us from enjoying our Lions meetings. Our next meeting will be online using the Zoom software. It is a new experience to many of our members, but we are in a world of change and if we, as Lions don't adapt the way we do things. We will get left behind. Plus it will allow some of our members who cannot always attend our meeting for whatever reason to participate, so it will be an interesting meeting for all of us.

14.01.2022 Well done to these 2 Lions both men have contributed to their communities and Australia for many years. Well done

13.01.2022 The community project to beautify a local lane that locals use as a shortcut is progressing beautifully. It's great that we have been able to assist them by auspicing their grant https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1099631770420693&id=715187188865155

13.01.2022 As Lions we do what we do, and its nice to be recognised occasionally, as we were on the front pages of the latest issue of Glen Eira Councils community newsletter.

12.01.2022 LCIF is our International Foundation, it dispenses grants for all sorts of emergencies including Covid19

11.01.2022 As we come out of Covid Isolation, think about what you could do by helping in your community. There's always plenty to do, often it just takes an extra pair of hands or a different set of eyes

11.01.2022 Whilst we have rain it will still take 6 months for the grass to grow, in the meantime Lions continue to manage the "need for feed"

10.01.2022 Thanks for recognising the work we do as Lions. https://probonoaustralia.com.au//why-not-for-profits-are-/

10.01.2022 Once again, well done Tennant creek Lions

10.01.2022 In 2020 we assisted a group of local residents by auspicing grant money they were given to beautify a local lane, it has been such a successful project that they have taken on another lane, what a great project. Again we will oversee any grants they are given to ensure funding is properly spent. #carnegielocals

10.01.2022 It used to be that we got mail every day, now its almost an event. Plus if the letter actually has a stamp rather than a postage paid imprint, its even more rare. Well those used stamps have value. Lions collect those stamps from multiple sources and pool them and sell to collectors in bulk. So next time you get a letter with a stamp, save it and contact us or a lions club for details of where you can send them

09.01.2022 As the interstate restrictions are starting to lift, we will see Lions assistance dogs start to find new clients to live with across Australia https://www.facebook.com/103067383077496/posts/3680533748664157/?app=fbl

09.01.2022 Well Done to the Tennant Creek Lions. Another example of ordinary Australians doing Extraordinary Things in their community

08.01.2022 Australia Day in Melbourne was wet and cool but it didnt stop Carnegie Lions from helping with the catering at 2 separate Citizenship services. One at a local park and the second at Victoria's Government House, where we also got a flyover by the RAAF. All the recipients enjoyed the day as did the Lions. We also got to use our new Marquees from Clear Bridge Group

08.01.2022 Dont forget Lions cakes as an Alternative present

07.01.2022 Go Chloe, Kym & Carnegie Lions.

07.01.2022 With the Lockdown there are many little things we are missing; like checking in a Bunnings on the weekend. Chances are you stop for a sausage on the way in or out, or even both. If the sellers happen to be a Lions club the videos below how we spend that money for the good of the community. Its a pretty diverse list, plus given that the Advert is 3 years old, you can add drought relief, bushfire assistance, and COVID 19 food parcels.

06.01.2022 Often many of the Projects undertaken by the Carnegie club are not seen by the general public. So its nice to see a Television news story (ABC 7pm) about one that we are involved with. Lions Hearing Dogs is a centre in South Australia ( www.Lionshearingdogs.com.au ) which train's dogs which then are given to profoundly deaf individuals to assist with their day to day activities. Carnegie sponsored a dog that was due to be brought to Victoria some months ago and handed over to a Carnegie Resident. The dog would be accompanied by 2 trainers who then help familiarise the person with their dog and vice versa. Due to the Pandemic neither the dogs or its handlers have been able to come in the forseeable future. Still it will happen eventually and we will have helped another local resident.

05.01.2022 Hi all, as we come out of Lockdown it's time to think about Christmas and what to give (or receive). This year, why not support the local community by buying or giving a Lions Christmas cake or Pudding(or Both) They're under $20, the batteries won't go flat, they are environmentally friendly and 100% recyclable by the user. Carnegie Lions will soon be delivering to local outlets soon, so watch this space in the next couple of weeks for details, but put them on your list now

04.01.2022 Outside of Lions, many members have full-time jobs, in spite of the Virus lockdown in Australia, one of our members who is a music teacher of the bagpipes was involved in putting this presentaion together for ANZAC day. Well done Lion John.

02.01.2022 Today as part of our engagement with our local community we took our popcorn making machine (With the teachers' permission of course) to our local Carnegie Primary school and three of our members handed out Popcorn to all the children during their lunch break. From all accounts all the kids managed to enjoy the treat #CarnegiePS #Carnegielions

02.01.2022 This is a suburban lane in Carnegie; overgrown, unusable, and unloved. A group of local residents is about to undertake a voluntary beautification project. It will be similar to one completed close by. Lions will assist by auspicing any funding to ensure any donations or grants are properly accounted for. If you want to see what can be achieved by a neighborhood, follow the link and see their previous efforts. If you have an idea that you want to pursue Lions may be able to assist.

02.01.2022 This is always a great community event, and this year Carnegie Lions will be there again with our New BbQ trailer, our ever reliable Popcorn Machine plus a supply of Softdrinks, Come and say Hello if you are in the area. Its great for all the family.

02.01.2022 Next Sunday Carnegie Lions will be assisting Glen Eira city council and the community by cooking the lunch. We are looking forward to this celebration, come along and join in. #Carnegielions, #Carnegiecentral #Gleneira
