23.01.2022 Wow, what an incredible 5 weeks it has been! Early out the gates were the blue Trouble Unders and the Purple Snatch us if you can, who both looked very hard to beat! With strong showings in attendance, performance and keeping their colours flying, it looked like the CrossFit Carnegie Intramural Open was going to be a two horse show this year! But thinking that would have been a mistake that failed to take into account the grit, determination and enthusiasm of the red G...rateful Deadlifters and the green Dumbelles. By week 2, attendance rose, spirit started to show and soon we were seeing green and red all over the place (including undergarments). But the green and red teams really surged ahead when it came to social media week and from then on, the Dumb Belles were unstoppable. A valiant effort was made by both blue and purple, but the momentum was lost and the final in week 5 saw the Dumbelles swooping in to win the trophy with the Grateful Deadlifters not far behind for second place. Congratulations Dumbelles!! A fantastic job was done by all the team captains, particularly the blue and purple teams, who ended up with only one team captain due to work commitments for the other. And thank you to all of those who came every week, or almost every week, and stuck around to help with setup, extra judging, supporting their team and encouraging athletes from other teams. It was amazing to see some of our new members just throwing themselves in there! A huge thank you to Mickie and Sally for keeping the crazy morning sessions moving smoothly and to Dave for coaching the afternoon sessions. But most of all thank you to each and every athlete that participated - whether you came to one or five sessions, you contributed to your team and to building the awesome community that is CrossFit Carnegie.

22.01.2022 Executed just like you would sing the song...

20.01.2022 Our first intramural open WOD got off to a great start a week ago (yes, 18.2 pics are coming soon!) and blue team, the Trouble Unders had a fantastic turnout, with almost all their team being there and all dressed in blue. The also secured some placing points AND the spirit award, so a huge well done to the blues!! The purple Snatch us if you can were not too far behind them they possibly could have taken the blues with a bit more purple on the day! They also did well on... points for placing and supporters. The green Dumb Belles and red Grateful Deadlifters were straight out the starters blocks with a strong showing at the Wod and Wine launch party on Friday night, but failed to back that up with the same amount of vigour on Saturday. Luckily the points gap is low and there is plenty of time to turn that around completely in 18.2 and beyond!

16.01.2022 THE INTRAMURAL IS COMING...

15.01.2022 Hustle & Muscle... do you have what it takes to take the cup from our beautiful blue reigning champions this year?

15.01.2022 THE OPEN - what is it and why should I be excited? The CrossFit open is an annual competition entered by hundreds of thousands of CrossFitters around the world and this year starts on 22 February 2018. Each Thursday (Friday morning here in Australia) for five weeks, CrossFit HQ releases a WOD. You have a few days to complete this workout and enter your score online. At the end of 5 weeks, you will either be off to regionals (if you are the top 50 men or women in your regio...n) or you will have a fantastic idea of where you sit in the worldwide table of CrossFitters. But the Open is more than that, it is an opportunity to push yourself, be part of something special and also it is likely you might get your first toes to bar, pullup or hit a PB on your lifts. For more detail on the annual CrossFit Open, see https://games.crossfit.com/ At CrossFit Carnegie we run our own in-house team intramural alongside the five weeks of the open. Everybody will be a member of one of four teams. Over the five weeks, we will be running the workouts in our Saturday sessions (normal time slots 8am and 4pm). With a myriad of ways to earn points for your team (even just for showing up, or for wearing colours and showing the most spirit), your team can build up points to end up being our 2018 CrossFit Carnegie Champions 2017 winners were Hustle & Muscle, captained by Sally Fuller, who you can be sure will be working her hardest to hold onto that trophy this year. Have you and your team got what it takes to snatch the glory You do not need to register with the Official CrossFit Open to be part of the intramural and we would like all our athletes to be part of this extremely fun and enjoyable challenge. Even if you cant make all of the 5 Saturdays, that is OK ideally 3, or even 2 would be OK. Teams will be announced over the weekend. watch closely!

13.01.2022 Outdoors strength and fitness training... :-)

13.01.2022 Never more will you be able to use "I got caught at the level crossing" as an excuse for being late for training.... We are proud to have a bunch of the level crossing removal crew training with us and a huge congratulations to all of you for putting in the hard work to get this up and running.. what a phenomenal achievement, which is made all the more special when it is broken down into the amazing people who made it happen!

12.01.2022 Remember this? 2018 coming very soon... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWH_Dkb9dS8

12.01.2022 Just in time to get you excited about tomorrows 18.3, here are the pics from last weeks 18.2...

11.01.2022 April Challenge is well and truly on!! Lili kicks off the Pike Handstands with a very respectable 38 seconds and Alison has laid the gauntlet with a 14 second free standing handstand...

11.01.2022 While there might have been no big Team Open competition in 2020, we still have a deserving winner for our annual trophy! A HUGE congratulations to Michelle, who shows up, without complaint (most of the time), rain, hail or shine (Ok, maybe not hail) and always brings a smile to our faces with her funny (sometimes under her breath) commentary. While others may have attended training as consistently through the year, Michelle also attended all online sessions during lockdown and crossed the finish line by being the only one to complete (nearly) all the daily 12 Days of Fitmas workouts over the Christmas break. So congrats Michelle on being the first solo winner of the trophy! <3

09.01.2022 Aaaaand, were back.... 8.30am tomorrow morning <3

08.01.2022 If you've tried one boring-as online WOD after the other for far too long.... and you're losing your will to keep moving... then you gotta try this!! And CRANK up the volume... Absolutely modify as you need... I did 10 pushups (with hands on the kitchen table), 10 lunges each side and chose a weight on the dumbell that I could (just) manage to keep going for the whole minute. If you don't have a dumbell, use a bag of rice, or a book :-) I'm sharing this now as there is a good chance I won't be able to type tomorrow... it's been a while

05.01.2022 Last week's sunset Tabata...

05.01.2022 Somebody told last years winning team captain that youre coming for the trophy... is that a tear I see in her eye? Dont miss out on this once a year chance to be part of CrossFit Carnegies team of champions... starts Saturday 24 February...

05.01.2022 Come along down... ts beautiful out here this morning... training at 8am with coach Mickie, nutrition at 9am with Sarah-Jane Purnell.

05.01.2022 The winner of the January Squat it like its hot challenge is Clare! She managed to hold that position for 1:26 on each leg. A true display of mental toughness - Clare looked incredibly focused and calm for the duration of the hold (I think she is laughing at Glenn in the pic below! Congratulations Clare! Special mentions go to Relia, Rob and Karen, all of whom recorded times well over the minute mark on both legs! An awesome effort! For those of you that havent entered your scores (nearly everybody!), please go back and do so, also for the run sprints and yesterdays benchmark bodyweight strength benchmarks!! This is important component of tracking your strength and fitness gains over time, so when it is a benchmark, get the numbers logged!

02.01.2022 Today I was really impressed with our athletes... the challenge was not to go as hard and fast as possible, but to control the breath, keeping it slow and abdominal, while ascending and then descending through a kettlebell swing ladder - after 2 swings, 2 breaths, after 4 swings, 4 breaths and so on all the way up to 20, before coming back down again to 2. What amazed me was the mental focus and breath control, from everybody on every set this morning - well done guys!!

01.01.2022 Event Calender for the first 6 months of 2018 :-)

01.01.2022 Despite having to take a lot of 2020 online, we were hugely grateful to enjoy the last part of 2020 back out in the park again! We finished off for the year on a lovely sunny morning with this super challenging "12 days of Christmas" workout... I'm pretty sure it was only the thought of our end of year brunch afterwards that kept everyone going!
