24.01.2022 Anyone using Telegram? As we bid 2020 goodbye, we also bid WhatsApp goodbye. It was a very interesting decision to make. As mum is in overseas, years ago I need to find a way to connect which is very challenging to mum as she does not know how to use smartphone. ... I got her a new Samsung Tab so that she could see the screen clearly, that she could type easily on the screen. Not only that, I also have to show mum slowly how to use. Took me 3 years to finally get mum to master WhatsApp, including video call. I couldn't be more proud of mum. It was a big feat as it required fair amount of patience and negotiation skills to get mum believe in using WhatsApp as compared to sim card to sim card overseas phone calls. To some, using WhatsApp video call function is easy. but not for mum with no computer background. Mum always says, you learn something everyday. Now fast forward few years later, with the media storm about WhatsApp privacy issues, I was tossing if I should really succumb to the media pressure as the situation is actually not as bad if I look closely to the new terms and conditions. Should I switch, or should I stay from WhatsApp? If yes I have to switch everything, from notifying everyone, updating all handles, as well as getting mum onboard. With lockdown 2.0 happening overseas, I only had 24 hours to convince mum before state of emergency comes into effect. What I didn't expect was, mum was brave enough to listen to my plan, and she went to a local service provider to help her immediately. I have never been more proud of mum to take on this challenge. With mum in overseas, I need to find a way to connect as mum does not use smartphone.... Yeas ago I got mum a new Samsung Tab with bigger screen. Took me 3 years to finally get mum to master WhatsApp, including video call. I have to salute Mum for seeing it through. I couldn't be more proud of mum. Now fast forward few years later, with the media storm about WhatsApp privacy issues, one of the factors to consider is if mum would switch to Telegram. With one day before lockdown 2.0 in overseas, mum immediately took action, went to a local mobile service provider to help set up Telegram.
