24.01.2022 Spent the morning at Parap markets talking to people about all the current issues and what they feel is important. I am glad we are on the same page, none of us ( well most of us) can afford to pay unnecessary rate increases, the amendments to the planning act, the unhealthy state of our city where locals and tourists do not feel safe, and lots of other issues.

22.01.2022 Interesting read. Good summery by the ABC. http://www.abc.net.au//darwin-lord-mayor-contenders/8766764

22.01.2022 Ok here is the Ballot for the By-election for Lyons Ward. I urge people to do their homework, goggle each candidate and see what they have been doing for our community. Our city needs lots of work and we need people who will actually get things done. Election Day 29 th February, but pre Polling starts this Monday see map for locations.

21.01.2022 For all the early birds who want avoid the rush, early voting has started at the following locations for Lyons ward. Your voice really matters it is our future, so please number each box.

20.01.2022 To anyone who could not make the discussion last night. Here is a bit of a breakdown, how I saw it. Some good questions were given ahead of time to the candidates by the Institute of Architects, Some of the candidates stuck to the questions, some went off on their own tangent. The questions from the Audience were the best as they always are, the candidates have to think on their feet, some candidates were strong on removing cars from the inner CBD (scary for us business owner...s) Getting rid of parking fees, one stated no rates or a freeze. Most of the candidate agreed on more trees. The 2 existing council members spoke well but were quite stuck on the 'Darwin Master Plan" and Sue asked a good question that both Katrina and Simon could not really answer., What was the thinking on the failed esplanade bike path, and roundabout? Katrina rightly stated that a lot of decisions were out of councils hands, but I believe council should have a stronger voice as they are representing rate payers, and we need a stronger working relationship with the NTG, keeping in mind the biggest problem we have now is a declining population. Over all Kon got the most applause and did stick to the questions, I was a bit disappointed that other candidates like Mick Palmer and Braedon E did not go. There were some very important issues raised, I really believe we also need to be working more with architects, Landscape architects, long therm Darwin Plant experts, Artists and local business people (for practical input). Any way that was my input, keen to hear what other people thought. Cheers Carol Phayer

15.01.2022 Our Community needs strong leadership and people who get things done. Please feel free to email me with any questions or issues you may have... artwarehouse1@ bigpond.com

15.01.2022 I believe being in council or government is not a job but rather a commitment to your community to improve it. ... I urge people to do their home work and ask the candidates questions, we have a lot of work to do and we do not need people on council who are not committed or have a true history of actually dong things. I am always amazed at all the forums and meetings I go to and contribute to that I very rarely see any of the past or future candidates there. We have lots of work to do so we need committed people on council and government. See more

10.01.2022 Here is a bit of a guide, but we do need someone with a proven history of working for the community, not just talk around election time. Good luck. ( still, time to ask questions)

09.01.2022 If you get the chance get down to the Bombing of Darwin museum on the wharf, a great insight to such a terrible time.

09.01.2022 Thanks to bumping into Peter Forest this morning, who got me thinking about the 150 Darwin city celebration we should be having in 2019. There is nothing like the threat of visitors or a party at your house to give you the incentive to clean up and have your place looking as good as possible. Here is one incentive to get us to pull our fingers out and start working, planning and thinking about our city for this occasion.

08.01.2022 Why would you vote for Carol Phayer? 1. I have spent years building an effective workable rapport with all sides of politics and Government departments so that I can lobby and work on the issues that need addressing for our community. 2. As a long term business owner and a single mum, I understand how tough things can be, good money management is paramount.... 3. Our safety and the tourism industry are important for a healthy city, I believe the NTG needs to up the support for the homeless, people with mental health issues, and people visiting our city, but these services do not need to be in the CBD where there are too many temptations and opportunities for more problems. 4. I have been a member of many boards and community committees (not just at election time) as I do not believe in waiting for the government or others to do what is necessary, I believe in making things happen. 5. I have always participated in the processes that ensure that our city has proper town planning so that we create a Liveable Tropical city, not just development for development sake and people’s investment and lifestyle have some protection. 6. Development is good and necessary but it needs to be balanced and we do not need to lose public assets like the Amphitheatre and our important green spaces. 7. Rates, rubbish, safety, public amenities, and a beautiful clean city is what I believe council should focus on.

07.01.2022 I always support good policies and ideas regardless of which party is pushing it (the benefits of being Independent), so I was glad to hear Micheal Gunner stating today that the NTG will be pushing to ban the FIFO working system, of course there will always be a need for specialised people, but as for jobs that can be filled here, they should go to people who live here or are will to relocate here. The nonsense words I heard today was by Terry Mills, not supporting the BDR, no one is saying it is the silver bullet that will fix everything, but it is a tool that will help the sellers of alchol refuse problem drinkers It annoys me, that just because you are in opposition does not mean you have to oppose everything including good ideas.

06.01.2022 Here is a bit more of what I have to offer, but please feel free to email me with any further questions [email protected] https://www.youtube.com/watch

05.01.2022 Just for the record campaigning is hard work, every spare minute on the streets visiting your ward Setting up spaces with about 30 other candidates. Then getting knocked in the face by my table as it is a bit broken, I hope that is not my only reward for using all my savings and time. (Thanks for the ice pack Sue)

02.01.2022 Todays letter. " Beggars the difference".

01.01.2022 This is a bit disturbing, too early to really comment on but, protecting our Deckch cinema is vital, it is such an important part of our lifestyle and such a Darwin experience for visitors. I hope the RSL find and new home, there is so much space available and makes no sense to have a noisy bar entertainment venue so close.
