15.01.2022 Andrew and I are not getting any younger and what with his back and my feet we are easing out of guiding. At times when the Lodge is very busy, having guiding commitments in addition to all the other scheduled and unexpected jobs that arise running Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers Lodge, we have removed guiding from our website and will be recommending other local guides for our guests. We will still keep tabs on the birds and will help guests with suggestions of where to look for the species they want. Thanks to all who have been our clients over the last 20 years. :-D

15.01.2022 Seasonal changes are well underway. Last sighting here (by a neighbour) of a surprise adult Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher was on Weds.; sighting by us of an immature Dollarbird Monday; having to hunt now for the last Metallic Starlings; a lone Black Bittern has been on our pond daily and may still be there, but surely must leave soon; our Black-faced Monarchs left mid-April (though stragglers remain in Julatten); Rufous Fantails are popping up everywhere and I think yeste...rday I heard my first migrant Grey Fantail - with current travel bans, the only "grey nomads" we may see for some time; on Tuesday on a permitted trip to the beach we saw a Sacred Kingfisher fly from a wire - a winter migrant to FNQ; and of course, we are being battered by the calls of Lewin's Honeyeaters, migrants from higher altitudes to our feeders at Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers lodge. Many species are quiet so birding requires patience and sharp eyes at this time of year, but the surprises make it worthwhile. Happy birding, wherever you are. See more

14.01.2022 Reasons to drive carefully....

14.01.2022 We feel we should provide a Covid-related update now that we have re-opened Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers Lodge and Queenslanders are free to travel within the State. At this time we will be taking guests in our self-contained units only, and they will need to gave a confirmed booking (no drop-ins). We have a Health Plan for the Lodge which involves extensive and regular cleaning and sanitizing, plus we will expect all guests to adhere to social distancing rules. That social d...istancing requirement currently precludes us guiding any guest in their own vehicle so at this time we will not be taking bookings for days or half-days out. We will, however, be offering our standard Guided Morning Walk (pre-booked, and for KP guests only) where social distancing can be maintained without interfering with what we do. Luckily our birds know nothing of social distancing! ;-) See more

01.01.2022 Thank you to all who have been viewing our Kingfisher Park Birdwatchers Lodge page. That is, and is likely to be for some time, where our posts will occur. Even before Covid-19 we had stopped guiding anyone who was not staying at the Lodge and now we are not out and about so much. We are also not taking bookings for guiding off the property but can suggest other local guides for our guests who require one. (Photo: Spangled Drongo, C Iles.)
