23.01.2022 Coronavirus, latest update; Symptoms include; fever, sore throat, coughing, difficulty to breath, sore muscles and diarrhoea. It seems to mostly affect men in the age group 40-60 years old. Few children are reported sick according to the attached articles.... It can take from 5-12 days before symptoms to appear after exposure to an infected person. If you are a healthy adult you are likely to only be mildly sick and its of greater concern how many other people you could infect. (Hence you would be isolated for weeks). Currently 20,000 cases has been diagnosed globally, with 400 related deaths. This is a 2% mortality rate. Overall that means a much lower risk of death than SARS or MERS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome). These are the previous epidemics with a similar virus. However the Coronavirus spreads more easily and reading the attached articles its obvious that the exact way its passed between people is still unclear to authorities. Face masks do not stop infection to pass between people. If you are concerned and would like to boost your immune system, book in for a Naturopathic Student Consult now: on 0492 833 613 or www.carolinekennedy.net.au Information found in the following articles; https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2760782 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2761043 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2761044

22.01.2022 Wise words by a wise man!

21.01.2022 Beware of the natural bamboo cups! A group in Germany tested a range of cups and found they all contain melamine, which in turn is made with formaldehyde. Melamine should therefore not be used (at all) with hot products as it then releases the toxic formaldehyde. Of course, reusable coffee cups, are used with hot coffee...... https://www.dw.com//keep-your-hands-off-bamboo-/a-49713624

18.01.2022 Is the Coronavirus just a flu? Not quite as this article from the University of California discusses. See link in my bio on Instagram. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu//we-thought-it-was- Key points: ....One of the weirder things about this new coronavirus is it doesnt seem to be incredibly cytopathic, by which we mean cell-killing, Krummel says. Flu is really cytopathic; if you add it to human cells in a petri dish, the cells burst within 18 hours. But when UC...SF researchers subjected human cells to SARS-CoV-2, many of the infected cells never perished. Its pretty compelling data that maybe were not dealing with a hugely aggressive virus, Krummel says. The bigger provocation, he suspects, may be your own immune system. ...the immune systems of many hospitalized patients mobilize differently and more aggressively against SARS-CoV-2 than against influenza viruses, which cause the flu. Their lungs are ravaged, these data suggest, not by the virus alone but by the detritus of an immunological battle gone awry. This rogue immune response could explain why, around day 11 of a COVID-19 infection, patients often develop a severe pneumonia... ....Meanwhile, epidemiologists began learning that preexisting heart disease and related conditions put people at greater risk of suffering and dying from COVID-19. Were finding that many patients who have more severe forms of the illness are obese, they are diabetic, they are hypertensive,.. #covid19 #naturopathystudent #naturopathy #endeavournaturalhealth

17.01.2022 Vegan tacos - delicious, fun, moorish and extra nutritious If you think vegan meat is hard to make or tastes boring, think again. 15.01.2022 This is the reason we should take this seriously. Theres is no need to panic, most of us wont be very sick. But we must flatten the curve, so there is enough health care available for the vulnerable in our society. If too many people get sick at the same time, our health care will be overwhelmed. Only very few percent with pre-existing conditions will get sick enough to need help. But they cant all get sick at the same time. Help flatten our curve. Avoid gatherings, wash your hands often. Dont hug your friends, sadly... wave and sit 1m away from each other. If you have any flu symptoms, go see your GP.

15.01.2022 This article discusses vitamin D in the current situation. Vitamin D could be something a naturopath would prescribe to improve the function of your immune system. It has in the past been linked to influenza season. Prepare yourself naturally, build your defense. https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/202003.0235/v2

15.01.2022 Naturopaths are working towards registration, which would protect both our profession as well as our clients. It would also enable integration with the medical profession.

13.01.2022 Healthy yummy cooking does not have to be tricky. I live alone half of the time and can find it challenging to serve myself healthy food that I enjoy eating. This summer I’m going for big easy salads. This one has lightly steamed broccoli and snow peas, red and white cabbage, red onion and red capsicum. Tossed with whole egg mayo and chipotle powder. The chipotle brings a smokey, spicy flavour without any effort, and the steamed veggies and the cabbages contrast in flavours ...and texture. I’ve fried some chicken tenderloins to go with it and dressed with salt and pepper. Healthy, simple, filling, and lots of flavour. #naturopathy @healthyfoodyess #summersalad @endeavourcollege #naturopathstudent

13.01.2022 How to wash your hands (or sanitize them) and actually clean all around.

11.01.2022 Who doesnt love a good bacon and egg sandwich? (Well, not if youre plant-based!) I was vegan for years, and have recently added meat back into my diet for health reasons. But I havent changed my mind on husbandry. How we treat animals not only impacts their lives, but also ours. My latest blog doesnt contain a recipe for a bacon sandwich, but advice on how you buy the best meat and eggs for the tastiest and most nutritious sandwich.... 09.01.2022 https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/930588?src=soc_fb_share This article is written by two Clinical Fellows for Medscape, an online medical research repository. Key points of interest for us:... - Non-pharmaceutical interventions are important for epidemic control and economic recovery - Peak infectiousness is probably 1 day prior to symptom onset - In the absence of therapy/vaccine, intermittent social distancing is likely to be needed for years to avoid overwhelming critical care capacity. This means that its more important than ever to find a good naturopath to assist you in supporting your immune system and health.

09.01.2022 Vitamin D shows protection against acute respiratory failure in COVID. As this study discovered, patients in intensive care units, with problems breathing, were very likely to have low vitamin D: High prevalence of hypovitaminosis D was found in COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory failure, treated in a RICU. Patients with severe vitamin D deficiency had a significantly higher mortality risk.... https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32772324/ Another article explains how this relates to the current trend in Melbourne, which has had an outbreak in winter. Whilst Europe is seemingly recovering at the same time, during their summer. Its very likely connected to our vitamin D status: Evidence supporting the role of vitamin D in reducing risk of COVID-19 includes that the outbreak occurred in winter, a time when 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are lowest; that the number of cases in the Southern Hemisphere near the end of summer are low; that vitamin D deficiency has been found to contribute to acute respiratory distress syndrome; and that case-fatality rates increase with age and with chronic disease comorbidity, both of which are associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration,... https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32252338/ As always, before starting to take a supplement, I recommend a holistic health review to ensure your requirements are met. Vitamin D has other vitamins it relies on for good absorption and function. Your individual needs should be analysed.
