10.01.2022 SMASHING CONCRETE A mysterious strip of concrete in the driveway sat next to this building for decades and was recently removed to the tip. The heritage advisor suggested digging a 500 mm trench under where the concrete was and replace the soil with sand to allow water to run through instead of wicking its way up the stones and disintegrating the old mortar. Daniel Howe from Aardvark Mowing and Landscaping 0408 217 201, got the job of concrete smashing and ditch digging. The old waterpipe was uncovered from when the RSL built on a rear weatherboard bathroom between 1918 and 1926. Mawsons of Kyneton supplied two ute loads of washed sand which filled the ditch with the help of a shovel and gravity.

02.01.2022 THE ARCHITECT Owen Meade of AirStream Architects in Melbourne created the plans to bring back Caroline Chisholm House from a bluestone ruin into two modern visitor apartments while keeping its 1855 exterior. This is the only remaining shop and dwelling in Mollison Street, Kyneton. Mollison Street was the old Calder Highway before the freeway bypass in 1996. Goldminers walked the 11 days from Port Melbourne to the Bendigo diggings, right past its front door.
