25.01.2022 An organisation, led by someone who lacks empathy is bound to fail, particularly in the future, where the skills of today become archaic in years and months, not decades. Our tomorrow is so profoundly different that we can't begin to imagine it. The fifth industrial revolution will soon be upon us, and it will demand, leader’s human up. The growth of AI is making soft skills progressively more important, as these are the skills robots can't automate.... Emotional intelligence is high on the list of skills in demand. Why is empathy essential in business? Daniel Goleman, who is the world-renowned expert on emotional intelligence in the workplace, shares; Without empathy, a person can have the best training in the world, have a brilliant analytical mind, and an endless supply of smart ideas, but he still won't make a great leader.

25.01.2022 What an interesting time to be in business, actually to be alive. Right? Lots of crazy stuff is going on in the world right now. I'm sure you're pretty clear about what's going on in your part of the world and broader. Lately, I've spoken with and been a sounding board for dozens of Executives, and CEOs (Ranging between $2M - $400M.) I've led through many difficult times in GFC, in times when our industry was being disrupted and we delivered growth - we bucked the trend. ... What I want to do right now in the video, is just share some strategies that we've just been working on with our clients; 1 - Use the current climate to innovate product and service delivery 2 - Scenario plan cash flow, and focus on top-line & bottom line 3 - Scenario plan for the short and long term So your job is to adapt. Change the message - promise delivery. Take care and stay safe. Reach out if you need any help right now, DM me or send an email to [email protected] #strategicleadership #adaptability #leadership

23.01.2022 Have you ever stopped to consider your leadership style? Do you lead your team or control them? I recently asked these questions of my client. I wanted him to reflect on his interactions with the team. As I listened to him, I felt he was making excuses for his leadership performance by blaming other people.... I was late because I had to check something. He wasn’t meeting my deadlines, so I had to do it myself. The impression I received was one of manager, not a leader. He was so focused on micro-managing that his own performance suffered. Are you leading or controlling your team? Head over to the latest blog post on my website for some tips on how to identify whether you’re a leader or a controller, and if you’re the latter, what to do about it.

22.01.2022 We are talking about all things leadership.

22.01.2022 Are you trapped in comfort or growing in discomfort? The pandemic has made all of us comfortable in our homes, with a relatively large amount of time to spare to reflect on life. I've heard many people say that they've not where they thought they'd be in life or their career.... Why? Because they're happy in their comfort zone. Personal growth is just as significant as financial growth. Our comfort zones offer us a sense of certainty, familiarity, and security, whereas stepping outside of it could mean opening up to possibilities of risk, stress, and anxiety. Why step outside of your comfort zone? - Newer challenges help you stay sharp, mentally. - Trying out something new allows creativity to flow in. - You couldn't possibly grow without taking risks. But, we're not born risk-takers! - Out of your comfort zone, you'll discover new peaks of performance, impact and success to reach more of your true potential. We operate in an increasingly competitive, fast-paced world, therefore fortune favours the brave. Are you willing to step into uncertainty, to step out of your comfort zone? Because those that are will reap the biggest rewards. What have you done lately that's outside of your comfort zone?

22.01.2022 Leadership is more than just a title or role. It's about taking the organisation to a place beyond expectations, through its people. It's not only about knowing what to do; it's about inspiring action, empowering your team to do what's necessary to go beyond where they are now. When coaching your team as a leader, one of the most critical elements is to ensure the change or development is permanent.... To empower people, to help them become better thinkers, so they operate independently and perform at a high level even when we're no longer around. So, how can you achieve this change for empowerment? It's critical that you involve people in the process, tapping into their knowledge, systems, and resources. As a leader, people will seek answers from you. But before you answer, gently tap into their inner resources. Maybe they'll find those answers themselves and take full ownership of how it impacts their work and their actions. Reach out to us if you wish to help your people become independent to achieve greater accountability, engagement, and performance whether or not you are around.

22.01.2022 What’s your leadership style? There are many types of leadership styles, but no single style is best as each has elements that are good and bad. : employees are ruled with an iron fist.... : others are considered in the decision-making process. -: a relaxed, hands off approach. : this is the method I would recommend. This style involves listening to employees and including them in decision-making, but giving direction when appropriate, or putting your foot down and taking charge. Let me know in the comments - what style works best for you?

20.01.2022 Australian leadership is low in EQ. That's not an overstatement, based on Scott Morrisons recent behaviour. This is not about Scomo bashing. There has been too much of that already. ... But Im very clear on the need for EQ in leadership and Scomo has given me the chance to show you what lack of EQ looks like. There are leaders who are excellent administrators, and there are leaders who are excellent at human leadership. Scott Morrison falls into the first category. Hes very intelligent but clearly uncomfortable with expressions of emotion either his own or others. But, IQ, EQ & AQ are all required for balanced leadership. Scomo's low EQ signs are: His absence during the early bushfire emergency Rejecting help from NZ when Ardern offered early assistance Forcing a woman to shake his hand when she didnt want to Walking away from a woman who had lost her home when she started asking questions of him Above all, his late presence at the bushfire-stricken towns None of that was deliberate. I believe Scomo couldnt see what he was doing. This is low EQ at work and its damaging. The reaction of the Australian people says it all. It's clear to see why we embraced Jacinda Ardern's high EQ leadership. She showed us she cares. I'm sure Scomo does, too, but he needs to learn how to show it. Our Unstoppable Leadership incorporates EQ through, leading self, leading others and leading business. 19.01.2022 Kobe Bryant - The Dad Im not a basketball fan, but I knew the name Kobe Bryant as an individual whose tirelessness and competitive drive was as prominent as his adaptability and ambition. I loved this, and he had a determination and drive that I could relate to. I was saddened to hear the news of his tragic death, but what really impacted me was to learn of his daughters passing and I instantly developed a new relationship with the news. ... Whilst I was inspired by this mans successes, it doesnt compare to the inspiration I feel for his devotion to his children and what appears to be his dedication to being an incredible Dad. And as a parent, my only job is to keep my son safe and protected. (I tell him this all of the time). As I sit here seeing all of the photos of Kobe and his daughter, I get the sense that he clearly loved his little girl so much. You can see from the pictures the deep level of connection he had with his daughter Gianna. I salute the man who inspired many generations with his tirelessness and competitive drive but also inspired parents to be the best versions of themselves. My heart goes out to his wife Vanessa, and their other children, whose grief I could not imagine. Kobe Bryant (41) & Gianna Bryant (13) May you both Rest in Peace. @kobebryant #ripkobeandgianna

18.01.2022 One of the criticisms I’ve faced over the years is that I’m not aggressive enough or assertive enough, or maybe somehow, because I’m empathetic, it means I’m weak. I totally rebel against that. I refuse to believe that you cannot be both compassionate and strong. - Jacinda Ardern

18.01.2022 The reluctance of some to take on a coach is partly due to the fact that at an executive level, time is a precious commodity in short supply. Whilst there is no doubt that coaching requires a commitment of your time, it is ultimately an investment in the success of you and your business. Not enough time is an excuse.... Stop and think: are you evolving or are you standing still? What needs to change to get to where you want to go?

14.01.2022 They say comparison kills happiness and the same goes for business. Learn from those who are doing better than you, don't compare or compete with them. Be confident and keep doing you. You've got this!

14.01.2022 What is influence, and how do I master it? On a strategy call yesterday, a new client, Peter, asked me this question. My response, "before I answer this question, let's look at what influence is not;"... - It's not manipulation. - It's not forcefulness. - It's not getting your own way. It is a leadership skill, a framework. It's the ability to trigger an action or a thought within the mind of the individual that encourages and prompts them to a conclusion and to take action. It's a leadership fundamental, whereby we're attempting to get people to follow a set example, or leading them to the desired outcome, one that they've concluded themselves. Ultimately, we're trying to influence someone's behaviour. To master influence, you must come from a place of genuine interest in others; you must come from a place of confidence and conviction. If there is any hesitation or doubt in your communication the other people will sense it, and that will be the perspective that dominates. Managing the frame/framing how it fits is about how others are perceiving the situation. Ultimately, you create a perception which influences behaviour, and provides a win, win situation. Reach out when you're ready to master influencing. #leadership #influence #strategicleadership

14.01.2022 It's not easy to lead or create a high performing team, whether it's on the footy field, or in a workplace. It requires a unique set of skills to inspire people to perform at the highest level and to work in unity to achieve things they never thought possible. Here are my 5 non-negotiables in creating high performing teams;... 1 - There's no place for ego 2 - Assumptions make an ass out of everyone, and limit multidimensional perspectives and thinking 3 - Don't play on the surface, dig deep to identify the root causes of problems because problems are your biggest opportunities. 4 - Build people's thinking skills, ask questions the majority of the time (don't tell) 5 - Use a tough empathy approach, give people what they need, not what they want Your biggest asset and investment is showing up as the best version of yourself to lead others. You can't lead others until you've mastered how to LEAD SELF. My latest Book, Lead Beyond 2030, shares the 9 megatrends related to the skills required to lead yourself, your team, and your organisation into the future. It has three parts: Leading Self, Leading Others, and Leading Business. Are you showing up as the best version of yourself? Where could you improve?

13.01.2022 Is Success Human? What I have enjoyed the most in my career was when I helped people realise more of their potential, but most importantly helping them believe in themselves. I am a firm believer that human skills make or break a person professionally.... I have experienced people at their lowest and have been privileged enough to contribute to their growth, helping others rise to their best self, and it has been the most rewarding journey. Coaching beyond managing is a skill that all successful leaders foster and master. Leaders who understand this approach deliver bigger and better outcomes and cultivate a culture of elite performance. When I coach executives and senior leaders, my methods of coaching are Neuroscience and human behaviour based to achieve rapid high performance, because if you struggle to lead yourself, you'll struggle to lead others. Individual definitions for success may vary, but I believe at the core of it all, human skills do make all the difference when you're building commercially viable, sustainable organisations. How would you define success?

13.01.2022 Family celebration! What I've realised is that there's no time like the present to enjoy what I was saving for the future. I spent so much time in the future and saving everything for later rather than enjoying it today. #presentmoment #enjoying today.

12.01.2022 5 Ways Coronavirus has changed the Leadership Role The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our expectations of the leadership role. The swiftness of change and the uncertainty it inflicted on us has altered our values. We're seeing leadership in a new light. Existing leaders now need to reassess their roles in response to the change. There are five major shifts in thinking and values, which will forever change the leadership role.... 1. Shift in the perception of ‘valuable’ employees 2. Shift in team member priorities 3. Shift in the expectation of empathy and personalisation 4. Shift in the decision-making power 5. Shift in focus To read about these changes in more detail, visit my website

11.01.2022 Employee recognition is more important than ever. With the pandemic, people are needing connection and community more than they ever have before. When employees are engaged, they are more likely to be motivated. Providing real, tangible rewards for employees will leave them feeling surprised, happy and overjoyed at being valued. Why not think about sending a gift, such as dinner on the company to your employees home can you imagine how surprised they would be?

11.01.2022 Have you ever had a crisis of confidence? Seven months ago, Tom called me, he said "I've just come off my best year yet, I'm at the top of my game, and I'm respected across the business. I delivered results never seen before, I pushed the team, they're humming kicking it out of the park. I was confident going into my end of fin year review." I was devastated to hear Greg say, "you built a strong foundation, but you're limitedyou're yet to develop executive presence and becom...e an influential leader. When you operate with executive presence, you create a personal stamp that cuts across industries and decades; you're felt across the country, not just fixing up your team. Your eyes are down, tunnel-visioned." Tom went on, "The reality is Greg's right, and I need to focus on becoming the best version of myself and intensifying my impact." Fast forward... Through our work, Tom's intensified his impact. His impact is felt across the organisation; he has a strong team in place, he's strategic with peers, plus he’s the 2IC supporting the CEO. Tom's operating at the C level, an area he struggled to hit in the past. Where are you right now? Eyes down, or creating a personal stamp? Reach out when you're ready to intensify your impact. 10.01.2022 I led through the GFC when our industry was being disrupted it was a crazy time, but we pulled through it, and we even bucked the trend with delivering growth when others failed. Lately, I've spoken with dozens of Executives, and CEOs. There's an overwhelming sense that it's a very tricky time to be doing business. Everyone's talking about a crisis, about recession fears, markets are crashing.... The mass media reports are creating fear, the reptilian brain is kicking in for many people, and it's causing people to go into fight or flight mode. Your teams will bring their fear emotion into work this is not good. From my conversations, great leaders are thinking opportunity right now. First and foremost, they're thinking, how do we get through in the short term? In the medium to long term, six to 12 months onwards, how do we come out of this in a better position? What does that look like, and how do we steer the ship towards calmer waters? Opportunity exists in crisis; it always does. I know because I've lived it, and I've steered the ship to calm waters when many couldn't. You have to focus your vision, build the road ahead, calm your team and lead. 08.01.2022 How happy are you? Recently, I started thinking through this question, and how happiness or the lack there of can affect people in everyday life. Ive always tried to live by the philosophy that you are the master of your own destiny, if you are not happy, you have the power to change it. Do humans change their situation when they are not happy? My research indicates that the majority of us dont. Interestingly, I read an article recently in The Guardian which detailed a stud...y on how happiness is attributed to you earning more. Do you believe it? I do. 08.01.2022 Are Great Public Speakers Born or Made? When I first became a CEO, in the private and corporate sector, I started to receive invitations to speak at events. I remember my first large conference as the opening keynote. I worked for weeks on the presentation, and when I stood up to speak, was I nervous? Hell yes...... I watched the recording of the keynote, and I was horrified, I was a terrible public speaker. Since then, Ive sought out mentors, coaches and teachers over many years to help me improve my craft. Ive worked many hours honing this craft, and Ill work many more. I made it my mission to become the best version of myself as a speaker. Nothing improves overnight; its a commitment to making minor improvements every day, knowing eventually these small improvements will add up to something significant. When conducting a keynote (online) recently to a large membership organisation, I received the following feedback. Your speaker is brilliant! Ive been here for less than 5 minutes, and she has given so much value already. The moral of the story is, nothing worth doing is easy, and improving yourself requires an ongoing commitment every single day never stop growing, learning and developing. #careersuccess #leadership #selfleadership

07.01.2022 If you don't starting doing this as a leader, you might get left behind. What I see is the biggest problem with leadership today is the old school methods just are not effective, and leaders are struggling to adapt. The best leaders are those leaders who show Integrity, who show us HOPE and a VISION for the future.... They shown up, but they don't shown off! Your emotional intelligence is critical to your leadership success. We all need to adapt, don't get left behind - adapt to remain relevant. #leadership #influence #success

07.01.2022 Yesterday Mr 10 asked: what's for dinner, Mum? I replied: Chicken Casserole. He quickly responded: I hate Chicken Casserole! Can you please make something else? Me: Okay, let me think for a minute. What about Chicken Pie?... Him: Yes, please! Yummy... Influence is about communicating in a way in which other people need to hear the message. You can say the same thing, in different ways, with different words, and it will have a different outcome. Influence is all about other individuals, not you. It's about knowing other peoples' characters traits, motivators, and tapping into them. Chicken Casserole or Chicken Pie? #influence #humanbehaviour #emotionalintelligence #communicationskills

07.01.2022 Beautiful day to be out and about. What are you up to?

07.01.2022 Here's a question? Are you an Influential Leader? The old command-and-control style leaderships is redundant in this day and age. To survive and succeed, becoming an influential leader is a must.... Effective Influence is a process of seeking to understand through which influencer leads others to a problem's shared solution. Influence blends the art of establishing trust, collecting and analysing information, developed influencing skills and understanding human behaviour. There are 3 key elements. - Powerful Persuasion to build trust - Tactically Lead to empower others - Passionate Action stems from accountability Effective Influence is the most powerful style of leading people. Have you mastered influencing? P.S - If you're interested in becoming a leader of influence check out my intensive program. 06.01.2022 Richard Branson interviewed Simon Sinek recently; he asked, "if you were starting a business right now what problem would you solve?" Simon's response, "I would help people relate to each other better." I love this!... In my work with senior leaders and executives, my mission is to help them transform through leading with both head and heart. Human centric leadership helps you to empower people to break through limitations, fears and concerns, so you're creating high performing teams and organisations. Perception is a lens from which we view the world and experiences. We're living in a time where, as humans, we're more judgmental, where we're terrible at listening we don't truly seek to understand others. No one person owns the truth; we all own a piece of it. In traditional leadership, we're taught to operate merely with our heads, but what about our hearts? Transformation happens when we learn to master; Emotional Intelligence Empathy To have difficult conversations To give and receive feedback Being aware of our lens colour is valuable, but being willing to see things from a different perspective is how you intensify your impact. Reach out when you're ready to intensify your impact, and reach your full potential.

06.01.2022 Are you happy with your impact, performance and autonomy over the past year? My question to you today is, are you happy with; Your results for the financial year 19/20?... The number of hours that you worked? The progress in your career? The impact you’ve made? Your performance? The level of autonomy you have? If you are, that’s awesome. High fives all round But my question to you is, do you want to make next year the same? What do you want to change in the next 12 months? What are you going to do differently? So, my challenge to you right now is to have a really, really good look deep inside and identify where you’re at now, and where you want to go. Is good enough, good enough for you? Or do you want to jump the line to game-changing leadership where you intensify your impact, performance and autonomy? How are you going to play a much bigger game? Let me know in the comments section.

05.01.2022 You get triggered don't let it limit you! An executive told me he was concerned because people found it challenging to work with one of his department heads. "She needs to stop becoming defensive and aggressive towards others, especially when they try and talk with her about an issue," he said. "A conversation with her can be like a matchstick just waiting to be ignited."... "I'm at such a loss." He shook his head. "Everyone finds it hard to work with her, yet she has so much potential, but she's limiting herself." We all have "hot buttons," or "triggers" that, when pushed, makes us blind to how it's limiting us. When you become aware of your triggers, the more powerful you become, but only if you bridge the gap and work on them. Are you conscious of what might be holding you back from becoming the best version of yourself? Reach out when you're ready to intensify your impact and performance.

05.01.2022 Finding Your State of Flow Top Athletes call this state the zone or your sweet spot Psychologists call it "peak state" or flow. FLOW is a symbol of your ability to move fluidly along many spectrums. It’s a conscious movement which aligns with the optimum response to both situations and people in the moment.... The biggest hindrance of the peak performance state for leaders is stress or overwhelm. If you’re juggling a million competing priorities, your mind is racing with constant chatter, your second-guessing yourself, your cortisol levels are high, your shooting from the hip and in reactive mode there is no way you can operate with focus and clarity. To achieve a state of flow, start with awareness; Become aware to regulate your emotions Minimise external distractions Minimise internal distractions (meditate / journal) Understand and work at your biological peak time Have a clear outcome and goal What do you need to do to step into a peak state of flow? I support executives to bridge the gap from where they are today, to where they want to be When you’re ready to step up into your peak performance state reach out to find clarity and move forward confidently. 02.01.2022 The Best Leaders Are Vulnerable AH, NO THEY'RE NOT! I was on a call with a CEO, who shared with me a conversation he had with a mentee, he said, "people find it hard to trust Geoff, so I told him he needs to show more of his vulnerable side otherwise he'll struggle to be a great leader, one people want to follow". A little shocked, I responded "Leaders often hear that to build a greater connection with individuals, they should show their vulnerable side - I disagree.... I don't believe the best leaders are vulnerable. The best leaders are relatable." A relatable leader shares what's appropriate in the workplace, and you need boundaries around what is apt and beneficial and what isn't. Showing your vulnerabilities without boundaries is dangerous. We're in the business world; it's not your personal life. Relatability is different. I share my experiences openly, my successes and the times or situations where I learned lessons, I share how I dealt with specific events and the steps and strategies I used. Being relatable is saying - I've been there, I understand. When individuals relate to you, they trust you. You become an influential leader. Reach out when you're ready to increase your influence and impact.

01.01.2022 The fog is back, and lockdown 2.0 sucks From the moment I get out of bed, it's hustle, hustle, hustle. On top of running my businesses, I'm juggling being a schoolteacher, too. I'm made for running businesses, not schooling a child. I worry about my son. I hear, "he doesn't look engaged in online classes, is he doing the work?"hello he's in junior school people; kids have the attention span of goldfish.... When I try to step in, he merely rolls his eyes, loses the plot about 'how hard this is' and then treats me like I'm public enemy number one. I can't leave my child at home alone, so my daily runs are now out of the question. Then there's Zoom fatigue; I feel like I'm a record on repeat - Can you hear me? No. Can you hear me, now? No! Kill me now. Then I hear for the 100th time today, Mum, I'm hungry, can I have food? I need a nap. I get it - we're lucky, we're healthy and safe. Human leadership is important to me, so instead of my usual business insights, this is me keeping it real. Plus, it was fun to write. No matter what you're going through, be kind to yourself, you're doing the best you can during a really shitty time. Tough times don't last, tough people, do! : via Pinterest

01.01.2022 MUST WATCH if you want to be the most INFLUENTIAL person in the room. The biggest problem is so many people don't operate consciously. They're in reactive mode most of the time.... To establish a level of authority when expressing your viewpoint, use gentle assertiveness through influence, asking questions helping people come to a conclusion themselves. Someone who knows what they're talking about, and they're confident about their contribution don't need to prove anything. They seek to understand; they ask questions. The person who asks the most questions is in control. Seeking to understand with gentle assertiveness is how to establish yourself as the most influential person in the room. It's the way to go every time. #leadership #influence #successtips #executivecoach
