21.01.2022 Congratulations to Emma who recently achieved her Grey Wolf award, the peak award for the Cub Scout Section. As part of the award Emma planned a weekend sleepover for the Cub packs which was completely jungle book themed, with activities, games, food and fun. Emma also organised and ran her own Scouts own, where she discussed the importance of support, teamwork and helping others, and using the promise and law to guide our lives.... Well done! Pictured are Emma and her dad, Brenden, when she received her Gold Boomerang badge.

01.01.2022 Be Informed November 17 - Diversity and Inclusion 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a g...lobal initiative running from November 25 through to December 10, annually. The 2020 global theme is "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!" #OrangeTheWorld. The colour orange has become a symbol of a future free from violence against women and girls. Scouts plays a significant role in supporting, encouraging, and shaping the communities that we serve. As #Scouts we will work together to call out gender inequality, discrimination, and sexism. Scouts spark conversations, encourage change, and work towards a future where everyone is safe, equal and respected. In Victoria we will be focusing on domestic violence/family and will use the 16 days to call out the drivers of family violence and violence against women, especially the role gender equality can play in creating a safer community. We live in a community where one in three Australian women (30.5%) has experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and young women (1824 years) experience significantly higher rates of physical and sexual violence than women in older age groups. Just two of many statics that will change as the community continues it work to promote gender equality and openly discuss family violence, removing the stigma towards getting support. #ScoutsVictoria is not alone in marking The "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence" campaign, World Scouting (World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM) support this global event aiming to end violence towards women and girls and to promote their rights. This is a great time to promote the Scouting #heforshe program that is part of the Better World Framework you may have heard about at the recent JOTI/JOTA. It’s a program for #GenerationEquality. Check out the He For She action kit. https://www.scout.org//HeForShe%20%26%20WOSM%20ActionKIT_V #heforshescouts shows us everyone wins in a more equal world. Regardless of your gender, you're safer, healthier and have more enriching relationships. Importantly, young people will grow up in a world where they can be paid equally, have access to the same jobs, play whatever professional sport they want, and dress how they like and they won't face the gendered barriers that are faced by many today. How can you get involved? 16 Days of Activism is all about getting involved in your community. By coming together on this important issue, we will begin to move forward. Here are some ways you can get involved: You may like to use one of these online backgrounds (attached) you could use it as your Zoom/Teams background or Facebook banner. There are four messages, so you can choose one that fits your community. The Walk Against Family Violence is a bit different this year. Although we can’t walk together around Melbourne’s CBD like in previous years, we can still help raise awareness of family violence and violence against women in our communities by participating in a "walk from home" event on November 25 (or another date that suits your Unit or Group). Register your event online at https://walk.safesteps.org.au/. By wearing something orange and joining others using #WAFV2020 on social media, you can show your support for victim-survivors and help send a message across Victoria that family and domestic violence is never okay.
