Healing from trauma, from whatever war erected your wall, means allowing each piece of the wall to come down, letting each side greet each other. Letting each side share some time together at a pace that allows you to digest your history and take it inand heal the reasons that the walls were erected in the first place." http://gretchenschmelzer.com//11/9/when-the-wall-comes-down See more

13.01.2022 #Hugs have a very positive effect on emotional balance and #brain health. When someone hugs us, the physical contact activates the pressure receptors that we ha...ve in our skin, which are also known as Pacinian corpuscles, and which respond mainly to deep pressure. These receptors immediately send signals to the vagus nerve. At that point, we begin to #feel good because that nerve is connected with nerve fibers that reach different cranial nerves and play an important role in the regulation of most of the key functions of the body, including blood pressure. Therefore, as a result of a hug and vagus nerve stimulation, the heart rate and blood pressure decrease. The vagus nerve plays an important role in the parasympathetic system, which represents a kind of handbrake when we are under stress or overexcited. Another important change takes place directly in the brain. A hug stimulates the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter known as the pleasure hormone because it creates a feeling of satisfaction that relieves stress and tension. It is also appreciated that a simple hug increases the production of oxytocin, known as loves hormone which allows us to emotionally connect with others and trust them. Many studies have concluded that touch, especially hugging, provides numerous health benefits. It is a great way to boost your immune system, improve your sleep, reduce your stress, and help with depression. Hugs have no side effects, require no prescription, are free... and best of all, they can be given to your loved ones anytime, anywhere. https://psychology-spot.com/brain-needs/ #neurochild #familygoals #freehugs

11.01.2022 If youre a practitioner, youve likely encountered patients who dont seem to respond to traditional treatment for a mental illnessor, if you or a loved one h...as a mental illness, youve perhaps encountered this frustrating situation firsthand. The good news is that, within the field of Functional Medicine, a promising new approach to psychiatry is taking shape: functional psychiatry. Check out my article below to learn how a Functional Medicine approach to psychiatry successfully addresses the underlying causes of mental illness, improving long-term mental health outcomes for patients.

07.01.2022 "The belief that if a person, no matter who they are, puts their mind to it, they can achieve anything is based on the myth of meritocracy. Its rooted in the b...elief that anyone can manifest their dreams if they have character, strength, and determination. This concept, sometimes referred to as bootstrapping, is not only hugely detrimental to ones self-esteem but also denies the real world factors that can pose roadblocks between intention and action. These factors exist on a more individual level such as having an injury or being responsible for an elderly parent, but they could also exist on a larger societal level, such as the experience of racism, poverty, and other determinants of health. The idea that we are capable of anything, no matter what, is actually harmful to us because it leads us to self-blame and gets in the way of us seeing what else is really getting in our way. Overall, we are sold on the idea that we need to do something in order to be better. But what if the solution to feeling better about ourselves looked more like doing less and feeling, experiencing, and being more?" - Sand Chang

02.01.2022 "Healing from trauma does not only involve changes in your brain. Rather, it is equally important to attend to the impact of traumatic events on the body. When ...it comes to healing from any trauma, it is important to recognize that the body holds memories of what happened. Your body provides tremendous feedback about the impact that traumatic events. You might notice how you carry tension in your body or how your posture might be a reflection of your emotions. As a result of challenging life experiences, you might notice that you close off your chest to protect your heart from events that occurred years ago. Perhaps, you continue to freeze or collapse in response current events that trigger feelings related to your traumatic past. Or, you might notice how trauma from your past obstructs your willingness to look someone in the eyes, stand up tall, or speak with confidence. Importantly, yourbody does not just hold the memory of what happenedyour body also holds the memory of what wanted to happen. This is an important key to healing from trauma. For example, if you werent able to run away from a dangerous situation, you might feel the impulse to move your legs when you think about that situation now. Or, if you werent able to protect yourself from an abuser, you might feel an impulse to push through your arms. Somatic therapy in trauma treatment allows you to release long-held tension from your body. As a result, you have an opportunity to discover a greater sense of freedom in your body and mind. Your body gives you feedback about when the events of the past no longer define your life in the present. As a result, you reclaim your resilience..." - Dr. Arielle Schwartz
