07.01.2022 One of the first events I assisted with when I moved to Bowen back in 2015 was the Summer 10s...what a great day!! Incidentally, I was helping Mike Brunker, Labor candidate for Burdekin...if there is one thing that brings people together it is sport... The Burdekin boys won it in 2015 slightly edging out the Bowen boys...it would be great to see the Moranbah Miners, Dysart Bulls, Middlemount Panthers or the Mighty Clermont Bears go over there and mix it up a bit...details below!! #NQFirst
05.01.2022 Mark Furner has been announced as the Minister for Rural Communities in the new cabinet. Maybe we should be grateful that rural communities are portfolio worthy, maybe. However Mark Furner was born and raised in Brisbane, he was heavily involved as a union official with the Transport Union, Police Union and the National Worker's Union, plus held numerous roles within the Labor Party. So his connection to rural communities is tenuous to say the least, and I feel this is a slap in the face to rural communities devastated by centralisation policies and policies that have undermined the agricultural industry that most rural communities are reliant on. Interestingly, Mark Furner retains the portfolio of agriculture and fisheries. Hasn't he got his work cut out for him. #NQFirst
