25.01.2022 A rather light-hearted look at Patanjali's eight-fold path of Raja Yoga! It is believed that when we follow the Yamas, the mind becomes calm and steady. A litt...le like the requirement for practising Natarajasana! This can only occur when there is no conflict between our actions and our thoughts.
25.01.2022 There is a spot available in next Wednesday nights class (5 August) at 6.30 pm at my Ipswich home studio....well continue with our focus from last weeks class of the Sanskrit principle Viveka....we can learn to recognise when we have too many balls to juggle, which consequently can leave us time, energy and peace poor...by applying Viveka, we are able to prioritise and let go of what is not necessary...also developing the ability to recognise what does and doesnt work for ...us on the mat... Please message me if youd like to join us... Lets continue to stay well, and look after each other... Much peace and yoga love... Carolyn x Oh, and fantastic class last week ladies...I did challenge you slightly but you dug deep and delivered...most impressed...
25.01.2022 We focused Weds night on being where we are... When not doing this, we steal from ourselves the experience of being alive in the moment...doing this the majority of the time, we can miss our life... Its completely natural for the mind to wander, for memories, plans, and conversations to pass thru the mind, however we can develop the skill to bring the focus back to this moment now...... Stimulation and distraction during class can be minimised by keeping the eyes gently closed when possible or gazing at a neutral object in the room such as a wall, your mat or the floor, rather than others in the room... In each pose and transition, bringing your attention back to the sensations in the body and the experience of the breath, over and over...and when the mind does inevitably wander, relishing the feeling of coming back... All spots now taken for this weeks class (19 August)... Keep supporting each other...and stay well... Shine on.... Carolyn...x
24.01.2022 Great class last night ladies....wonderful to observe everyone getting back on track...look forward to joining together again next week..(1 July) - this class is fully booked.... Om Shanti.... Much yoga love...... Carolyn Collett (Dip. Teach IYTA)

23.01.2022 This poem is by the American poet and author, Danna Faulds...students who have attended my classes will be thoroughly familiar with this name, Im sure, as her writings have been regularly interwoven into my classes...I feel it is most apt for this time... Hoping yoga is still a constant for you through your home practice...if you have any concerns or questions about your practice or if you need any advice regarding props to assist you, Im here...feel free to call or text me...... Wishing you peace of mind, and much peace within your heart... Carolyn x
23.01.2022 There are two spaces still available for our Wednesday evening Hatha yoga class at my home studio in Ipswich... Our focus will be on the breath - the muscles used in breathing, breathing patterns, and the benefits of working with the breath in our practice and daily life... This 1.5 hour class is suitable for those with yoga experience...... Lovely, relaxed vibe in a nurturing, supportive space.... Love for you to join us!...feel free to message me with further inquiries or to save a spot!... Peace within... Carolyn x
22.01.2022 Just to advise Wednesday evenings class (16 Sept) is fully booked...still one spot available for our fundraiser class on Saturday 3 October at 9 am...ALL proceeds going to Share the Dignity...
22.01.2022 Wednesday night we explored the second chakra - Swadisthana....the dwelling place of the Self... Our dreams, fantasies and emotions reside here...when balanced this leads to feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure and joy.... any blockages in this area may result in a person feeling emotional instability, fear change, and be more melancholy.... It is important to touch base with our emotions and determine if there are any feelings we may be holding onto and process thes...e in a healthy way... What a wonderful storm accompanying our class, adding to the fantastic energy in the studio...excellent motivation with your practice everyone ...a most enjoyable class... There are two spots still available next week (Weds 26 February)....please message me to join us or for further info.... This month marks two years since I opened this space to the community...thank you for being a part of this venture and for allowing me the honour to support each of you on your yoga journey...loving it... Till next week... Keep shining and spreading that yoga love... Carolyn Collett (Dip. Teach IYTA)
21.01.2022 Greetings all... This photo was taken a year ago to the day...unbeknownst was I as to what the year ahead could possibly hold for us... It has certainly been a bumpy one, with the sudden need to close the studio in March and the feeling of elation (and slight trepidation) when finally able to reopen the doors again in June (with limited capacity and Covid plan in place)... ... I certainly hope the studio has been able to offer you some solace during this time....I found to be able to return to the familiarity of our practice and community was most comforting...yoga is our constant, even if only in the form of a home practice... It continues to be such a pleasure and privilege for me to be given the opportunity to hold this space for you... I hope each time you visit you experience and take away with you some comfort, nourishment and strength on all levels, and a sense of achievement and development within your practice... and I guess, like myself, you enjoy the laughs we have together!...I look forward to being able to continue to offer this space for you and help you on your individual journeys... I'm sure you'd love to know that a portion of the fees you have paid for your classes this year have helped to support the following organisations: - Farm Animal Rescue - Happy Tails Animal Rescue - Koalas in Care - Save Elephant Foundation - Share the Dignity Our last class for the year will be on Wednesday 23 December at 6.30 pm... Classes will recommence in the New Year on Wednesday 13 January at 6.30 pm... There hasn't been sufficient interest as yet in a Monday evening class to give a definitive start date...I shall keep you informed...if you haven't already let me know, could you please message me if this class is one you would be interested in... Gentle Hatha yoga...thanks everyone... Wishing all of you good health, peace and love within... Namaste to you... Blessings.... Carolyn x
20.01.2022 Drishti the focused gaze point. It can be the tip of the nose, the eyebrow centre or a point ahead, perhaps a place on a wall. Finding one’s Drishti. Directi...ng the focus to a single point of awareness. our attention is fixed on a single point, building concentration (dharana) withdrawing the senses from all that is around us (pratyahara). Building a sense of inner calmness. See more
19.01.2022 Poirot is thoroughly missing our yoga nights at the studio and all of you...he is still doing yoga buddy duties and ensures he practices Downward/Upward Dog whenever I roll out my mat... I do feel Savasana is his favourite asana however...I know some of you are still diligently practicing - excellent!...this will greatly support you during this period...yoga is our constant, regardless of our current circumstances... Here for you for anything youre unsure of...remember to be... kind to yourself....(Ahimsa)... Thinking of you all... Much yoga love... Carolyn x (and Poirot)
19.01.2022 Hope you enjoyed our class last night, continuing with our focus of Sahasrara, the crown chakra.... When busy with the demands of life, the higher chakras can become neglected, inhibiting our ability to express ourselves authentically... The inversions we practice send energy or prana (life force) towards the higher chakras, including Sahasrara..... We introduced entering Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulderstand) from a modified Halasana (plough)... utilising a yoga bench....Vipariti Karani (legs up the wall pose), our alternative inversion...the body is inverted here without effort... Next weeks class (2 Dec) is fully booked... Thanks for bringing your wonderful energy again to our yoga haven...excellent practice... Your feedback in relation to the studio, our classes, what you would like more of or less of next year is most welcome...thanks from the bottom of my heart also for your beautiful personal messages received... Till we meet again on the mat... Much yoga love.... Carolyn x
19.01.2022 Hi everyone...there will be a class on Wednesday night next week (22 July) at 6 30 pm at my yoga haven in Ipswich....please note: this class is currently fully-booked...I will advise of any spaces that become available... Om Shanti... Carolyn x
19.01.2022 We focused last night in class on 'Connection'...by consciously connecting the mind and body thru the breath and our practice, we become more present-minded..we're all connected energetically by the prana that flows within and around us... connecting with nature - places of natural beauty can uplift and create a connection to the environment...connecting with other yogis thru a collective interest and love of yoga - practicing together - creating connection... Much gratitude... to be able to hold this space and guide you all... Next weeks class (23 Sept) is fully booked...if you are unable to attend, please endeavour to advise the previous day (if possible) as there are now others waiting for a spot... Still a spot available however for our fundraising class on Saturday 3 Oct at 9 am...$20 for a 1.5 hour class...ALL proceeds go to the excellent charity Share the Dignity...great cause guys.. Enjoy your weekend... Keep shining on.... Much yoga love... Carolyn x

Your time to dedicate to nourishment of body, mind and soul... Yours in Yoga... Carolyn x
19.01.2022 The Sanskrit term Viveka was our focus in class on Weds evening - the ability to choose wisely is fundamental - without this ability our thoughts, words, and actions are limited to habitual tendency.... Within our practice, by allowing the inner light of awareness to shine thru, we are able to observe what is working and what is not, making necessary modifications to minimise our efforts... Pushing yourself past your physical limits in yoga class, in order to achieve a pos...e that has previously eluded you, may be pleasurable in the moment, but the disregard for your physical abilities may have negative consequences on you in the long run if you injure yourself... Applying Viveka to situations that arise in your daily life, both large and small, will help you to become aware of when you are choosing the path of immediate pleasure and gratification over thoughts and actions that will ultimately uplift your heart and enhance spiritual growth. We shall join together again Weds evening (18 March) at my yoga haven in Ipswich...two spots still available...if you would like to join us, please feel free to message me with any questions and to reserve a spot!... Mats, props and convenient parking all provided...the studio is air-conditioned for your comfort.... Be safely guided thru a 1.5 hour balanced class of limbering, asana, pranayama, and relaxation within a small-group...come and enjoy the relaxed vibe.... Look forward to meeting on the mat!... Much yoga love... Carolyn Collett (IYTA-DYT)
19.01.2022 Still two spots available for our Hatha yoga class on Wednesday evening at my home studio in Ipswich.... We will be focusing on Yoga as Nirodha - calming the Heart-Mind... This 1.5 hour class commences at 6.45 pm...a balanced class held within a small-group, enabling an individualised practice with consideration of level of ability and any medical/physical requirements...... Mats and all props provided...convenient parking...the studio is air-conditioned for your comfort... Please note: this class is not suitable for beginners... Feel free to message me with any further inquiries or to reserve a space!... See you on the mat!... Happy Friday... Yours in Yoga... Carolyn Collett (Dip. Teach IYTA)

We shall continue with this next week (2 Sept) ...the class is currently fully booked... Thank you for being conscientious with your hand sanistising before/after class... ... This photo is from my walk on Friday of the Warrie Circuit at Springbrook National Park... HIGHLY recommend this walk...a bit of scrambling across rocks and upward incline on return trip, but well worth the effort to experience the beauty of this rainforest...therapy for the soul... Lets stay well and lets keep the benefit of our practice with us... Much yoga love!... Carolyn x

17.01.2022 SADHANA: A word we use to describe our spiritual practice. In the ancient Sanskrit text, it translates as methodical discipline to attain desired knowledge or ...goal. While many of us use this word to describe our daily yoga practice, for some yogis, daily life is a Sadhana. It is a discipline or way of life designed to realise the goal of one’s ultimate ideal or reality.
16.01.2022 Such a lovely first class for the year last night, with our focus being Anahata chakra (the heart centre).... This chakra is connected with compassion, equilibrium and of course, love... Hope you all enjoyed - I know I did!... ... We're going to continue with this for next weeks class (3 Feb)....all spots currently reserved at this stage... Let's enjoy the rest of our week and I look forward to seeing you again next week... Om Shanti... Much yoga love... Carolyn x
16.01.2022 Ive been hearing from some of you that you are continuing to embrace your regular home practice or are enjoying getting into the swing of developing a home practice...wonderful!...this opportunity will hopefully form a healthy home practice habit that will, Im sure, organically continue with the gradual return of normality for you... Can we consider finding that balance between effort and ease during our practice?...finding that place where we feel the aliveness within u...s, but without force or pain...aiming for mindful steadiness as we practice... Yoga is a dance between control and surrenderbetween pushing and letting goand when to push and when to let go becomes part of the creative process, part of the open-ended exploration of your being. Joel Kramer Can you spot Poirot in this photo!... Stay well, keep peace close to your hearts... Till we can meet together again!... Yours in yoga... Carolyn x
16.01.2022 Lovely energy in class last night where we focused on Vishuddhi - the throat chakra....we will be continuing with this next week on Weds 7 October...a couple of spots available...if you haven't already booked and would like to attend, please message me... 13.01.2022 Great class Wednesday night...good energy and practice...'finding our edge' being our focus...learning to sense how far to move into a pose...finding our 'sweet spot' - intensity without pain...using the breath as a guide to honour any restrictions in the body...when the breath becomes uneven or limited, this is a good indication we have moved beyond our edge...this is our cue to ease out, and find that place of comfort and stability... Next Weds (16 Dec) our class is presen...tly fully booked... At this stage we will still continue with the Weds evening class only next year... Thanks everyone...look forward to seeing you all again before we finish for the year... Keep yogaing!... Love our space and what you all bring to it... Namaste... Carolyn x
13.01.2022 I felt absolutely elated last night, reuniting for our Weds evening class at my home studio...beautiful... We focused on the Psoas muscle, a significant core-muscle that assists us in many of our daily movements... It also is known as the muscle of the soul taking on stress from our emotional body, often creating a host of painful conditions such as lower back pain, sciatica, and even digestive issues...I think well continue with this focus next week... such an important... muscle to consider within our practice... Next weeks class (24 June) is now fully booked... Due to class number restrictions, Ive been considering a second class on a Monday evening at 6.30 pm and there has been interest expressed in this...looking for further expressions of interest in this class...there unfortunately at this stage would still be limited numbers until restrictions are lifted...could you please let me know if you would be interested... Until next week, keep travelling well... Carolyn x

12.01.2022 Take a [square] breath! Samavritti pranayama also known as ‘The Square or Equalising Breath’ is just the thing in those moments when you may be feeling anxious... or nervous about doing something, such as presenting a speech. Samavritti: sama means equal or perfect and vritti literally means movement or action. With Samavritti Pranayama the ratio is 1:1:1:1. and a good way to practice is to visualise a Square To start, you inhale through the nose for a count of 3 - 4, hold the breath in for a count of 3-4, exhale through the nose for a count of 3-4 and hold the breath out for the same count. Continue on in this way for several minutes and if the mind wanders bring your focus back to the practice and to your breath. Remember with all pranayama practices if it doesn’t feel right then come back to the natural breath or maybe reduce to a 1-2 count. A wonderful practice to develop breath awareness and breath control. Through regular practise the length of the breath can be increased. It instant brings a sense of calmness to the body and mind. To learn more about this and other Pranayama practices. Check out the IYTA’s Meditation and Pranayama course. by following the link below. https://iyta.com.au/yoga-teacher-/meditation-and-pranayama/
12.01.2022 Australia is now moving into the re-opening phase with coronavirus restrictions to be relaxed under a three-step framework announced on Friday... Scott Morrison and Dr Brendan Murphy outlined the three steps, each of which limit the number of people allowed at any one business, activity or social gathering. Under this national plan, we see restrictions on yoga studios being relaxed in the Stage Two phase on 12 June... ... Whilst the framework is national, the timing of each step will be determined at state level. We will likely see a continued difference across states, with each entering the stages at different times. The clarity needed to fill in the detail of the national plan is also likely to be provided at state level....obviously the situation will be reviewed after the Stage One phase to determine when or if the Stage Two phase can proceed... Hence, we can not look definitively at an opening date for the studio, however its a very positive indication of when we may be able to join together again on the mat!... I will certainly keep you informed of updates and advise when we can officially start classes again... I am very excited about the prospect of re-opening the studio and being able to share together again in our love of yoga and the great vibes!... Stay well, keep practicing, and may peace be close to your heart... Much yoga love... Carolyn x

11.01.2022 Wednesday night in class we focused on the breath and the profound benefits of working with the breath in our practice and daily life... We looked at the primary and secondary muscles used in the breathing process... Primary - the diaphragm, intercostal muscles (muscles between the ribs) and abdominals...... Secondary - the chest, upper back and shoulder muscles... Often people only utilise the secondary breathing muscles (upper chest) resulting in shallow, rapid breathing and holding onto the breath...this increases muscle tension, fatigue, cortisol production, and stimulates the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response)... When we breathe with the whole body (yogic breath), we activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest, renew, heal response), and create more balance of the autonomic system...some of the benefits of this include increasing emotional stability, decreasing muscle tension, blood pressure, restlessness and time-urgency... There are only two spots available for next weeks class (5 Feb) at 6.45 pm...please message if you would like to join us... Enjoy the weekend ahead everyone...and remember to be aware of your breath!... Much yoga love... Carolyn x
11.01.2022 Mudras are a combination of subtle physical movements which alter mood, attitude, perception and which deepen awareness and concentration. Mudras can involve t...he whole body, or specific areas of the body. The most common category of mudras is Hand Mudras (Hand Gestures). Mudras work in the same principle as acupuncture, they can be used to alter the flow of prana (energy) to direct it to different parts of the body. See more

09.01.2022 Of course I dont condone this!... And completely encourage you to continue with your practice!...HOWEVER, I think a good laugh is required right now, hence the post... 09.01.2022 Big thank you to the ladies that joined me for our Move for Dignity yoga class this morning and to our sponsors... ALL proceeds supported Share the Dignity, helping women access basic necessities...much gratitude to you... Our Wednesday evening class at 6.30 pm (7 Oct) has one spot available...please message me to join us... Keep shining on!... ... Much yoga love... Carolyn Collett (Dip. Teach IYTA)
09.01.2022 Our focus in class last night was the power of the breath...by combining breath and asana, we lift the practice of yoga to a whole new level...as we know, performing asana, we free up restrictions in the physical and pranic bodies, which in turn, allows for a more complete breath and a more functional flow of prana... Beautiful practice!...lovely observing you in the zone!... Next weeks class (29 July) has one spot available...please message me to join us...... May you keep the benefit of your practice with you... Much yoga love... Carolyn x
08.01.2022 Glad you enjoyed our Weds evening class ladies and were able to observe that sense of 'lightness' and 'openness' our hip mobilisation practice brings...this can be not only on a physical level, but also a subtle, energetic one... Our class next week (9 Sept) is fully-booked...still one spot available for our fundraiser class on Saturday 3 October at 9 am... $20 for a 1.5 hour class at my home studio... ALL proceeds going directly to Share the Dignity.... Look forward to see...ing you all again next week!... Stay well... and look after each other... Much yoga love... Carolyn x
07.01.2022 Wednesday evening we changed focus and revisited the breath...we considered the profound benefits of working with the breath both on and off the mat.. and the potential negative impact of under-utilising our breathing capacity..... Our class next week (14 October) is fully-booked... Look forward to meeting on the mat again...... Be love, tread softly, and most importantly, stay groovy!... Much yoga love... Carolyn x PS... shot from hike at Warrie Circuit, Springbrook National Park...
07.01.2022 On Wednesday evening we focused on the last Yama (moral guideline) - Aparigraha (non-grasping)... We can relate this Yama to the mat by considering our journey and not the destination...consciously bringing the focus to the present moment and keeping connected with ourselves....not allowing the ego to creep in and find ourselves comparing to others and pushing beyond our ability...the mind can be greedy.... Progress within our practice is encouraging, but need not be our only... reward...the sheer joy of our practice is such a reward in itself...how free our mind can become when we realise this and in turn, the body can begin to unfold naturally, and asana become organic... Our class next week (24 Feb) is currently fully booked... May your practice stay with you, until we meet again on the mat...in the meantime, those of you with a home practice, I encourage you to maintain a regular practice (at least 2-3 times a week)...if practicing daily, ensure you reserve one day for rest.... Thanks to Holly for the beautiful new addition to the studio!... Namaste.... Keep it groovy.... Carolyn..x
06.01.2022 Lovely class last night continuing with our focus of the power of the breath....by performing asana, we free up restrictions in the physical and pranic bodies, which in turn, allows for a more complete breath and a more functional flow of prana...so we can see the interdependency of these - if the body is not comfortable and steady (if we are straining), the breath will not be long and subtle and therefore the mind cannot focus on the breath... Sthira sukham asanam - steady..., stable, comfortable asana... Pictured is one of our students from our class last evening in Supported Supta Virasana...a beautiful example of both Sthira and Sukham in a pose...nice Cath... Two spots are still available for next Wednesdays class (19 Feb)... Keep that lovely energy travelling with you...we have these wonderful tools we can take from our practice and apply to our daily life...such a blessing.... Much yoga love.. Carolyn x
06.01.2022 Even though its been a little tough this week with the extreme weather conditions (heat and storms), it is magical to sit out on my deck this evening and observe the greenness and life that has started to return to nature... to hear the birds chatting away and singing...sounding so happy....and the sounds of night creatures...wonderful... 06.01.2022 When life turns upside down, how we choose to adapt/react is what matters... Amidst all this change, are we able to consider the positive aspects of this shift?...the environmental benefit....the opportunity for nature to regenerate...recognising the attachments we have and the impermanence of all of them...bringing us back to the simple things in life and redeveloping the appreciation of them.... real connection of people even during this time of social distancing...compass...ion and empathy for others being the emphasis over self-survival... In saying this, it is also important to recognise that this is a time of loss and grief for all of us, and it is also important to allow the organic flow of this process and to share our thoughts and how we are feeling with others...keep that contact happening... How is your home practice coming along?...this is a real opportunity to strengthen our self-discipline...refining our practice, and working on those asana that we perhaps find a little challenging in class...good opportunity to practice them... Feel free to share your journey thus far, and once again Im here to answer any questions you may have regarding your practice or if you just feel like a chat... Kia kaha Carolyn x

05.01.2022 Wednesday night we continued with our backbend focus, achieving our goal Asana - Eka Pada Setu Bhandasana (One Legged Bridge Pose) and Matsyasana (Fish Pose)...well done ladies... Our backbending movements provide much benefit when performed gradually and safely - they promote lengthening and opening of the front body, bring flexibility to the spine, hip flexors and thighs, facilitate deeper breathing, and increase vitality... "When we bend the spine backward, we take a ...defiant step away from the downward plunge, and in doing so, give ourselves a more uplifted perspective on life"... Donna Farhi... Our class next week (11 March) has two spaces available....come and join us at my yoga haven in Ipswich...1.5 hours of nurturing on all levels... See you back on the mat next week!... Much yoga love... Carolyn x
05.01.2022 Kia ora all... Due to the current situation with the COVID19 pandemic and social distancing government directive, I have had to make the hard decision to cancel tomorrow evenings class and place classes on hold until further notice.... I will update you regularly via text and Facebook...... Those of you with an established home practice, please continue to practice regularly and for those who have put it off, this is a perfect opportunity to develop your home practice... Even incorporating solely some pranayama and relaxation into your day will be beneficial for you at this time... I shall sorely miss our classes, however your health and well-being is paramount... This is a great time to apply the philosophies of yoga that we discuss in class as well... life will always throw us curveballs, but we have these wonderful tools to draw on... Stay well, and feel free to contact me anytime with any questions regarding your home practice... Touch base soon... Take care... Luv Carolyn x
