14.01.2022 Words from @kayajarrett: Another life lost. Another voice taken. Another story finished. Another community left to grieve. Another example of how little this country values our BLACK lives. I can not begin to explain how heavy my heart has felt these past few days. I am sickened and angered and completely heartbroken by the news of Kumanjayi Walker’s passing. My heart is with my Walpiri brothers and sisters, it’s with the Yuendumu community, it’s with every single Indigenous... person in this country who undoubtedly shares similar feelings of hurt, pain and disgust towards this appalling situation. Black People are NOT targets for you to pull the trigger on. We are NOT shooting boards for you to practice your aim on. We are NOT just another statistic, another number in the system. We are human beings with lives that should be valued as much as the next persons and the next persons after that and the next after that. My heart will mourn for Kumanjayi Walkers last breath until the day I take my own. My deepest and sincerest condolences to the Walker family and all those close to the young man that have been personally affected by his death. I hope you find peace in knowing that your community stands with you. Indigenous people from all different tribes across all different states stand with you.
