17.01.2022 The self (ego) is like a PARASITE Look at it almost like a parasite. This mental parasite comes over the host and starts 'jacking-in' to the navigational syst...em, the thought system and basically takes over the thought system. It presents a picture of you 'as you' to the mental process. And the mind falls for it! This is a very hostile parasite. It's like a possession. This parasite has to live off a host. If a big bug lands on my hand, right now, I'll just knock it off, time and time again. But what happens with this parasite is - it 'jacks-in' and convinces the host that it's the host! So no matter how bad it gets, under the tyranny of the parasite, the host cannot entertain the idea of being free from it. It can entertain the idea of being free 'as it', 'for it' or 'with it.' It can't entertain being free from it, because it takes itself to be it. But what happens if you're not that? The first thing that dawns on the mind, at least in my experience, was "Hey! I can be free of it!" "If it's not me, if it's a foreign installment, I can be free of it!" I had never entertained the clarity of a possibility like that in my life. Never. And I never would have with the dominence of the parasite. I'd still be trying to improve myself, work on myself, keep trying to get better, to normalize it. But then one day it dawned on me, "I'm not that!" "And that's that!" And as soom as it wasn't about me anymore I lost interest in the thought system, because it really is a boring thought system. I swear to God, isn't it? Jesus Christ! How can we listen to another golden oldie from that same station. So now you're hearing it, but you're not really listening to it anymore. You start to get a little immunity. Maybe it just begins a little bit - but the dividends are pretty great. By Paul Hedderman
