25.01.2022 1 in 4 women miscarrage. It is a heartbreaking experience. One that should be dealt with with respect and support. It is a subject that breaks my heart, and one, as a doula, I wish to help with. To all those that suffer from miscarriages, you have my sincere condolences on the passing of your little baby.

25.01.2022 Part of supporting another mothers wishes can be supporting her spirituality. Sometimes this may be just the act of birth itself, and feeling connected to ones body and its abilities. Other times its about the belief in God assisting them and leading them through labour and birth. In this way I can support them through their beliefs, be respectful, and as their doula, base their labour and birth care around their religion or culture.

23.01.2022 I remember starting solids at 4 months with my first cause I thought that was when I was supposed to start! But so much research confirms that waiting until 6 months is best to avoid all the risks. http://ow.ly/Tyqh30e13l9

22.01.2022 Study confirms VBAC after 3 previous caesareans hold no extra risks compared to a VBAC after 1 caesarean. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20374579/

17.01.2022 I have now completed an extensive online course on Postpartum Haemorrhage. 5-15% of women will experience PPH and it can be fatal! Recognising it early is key to preventing maternal death.

15.01.2022 As a birth doula I'm not just there to help you during birth, I assist you before hand however I can. Whether thats practicing breathing exercises, reflexology foot and hand massages, Mindfulness training, relaxation techniques, recommending alternative products for morning sickness, acupressure, rebozo, breastfeeding education class, formula education.....the list goes on. I'm there to support you before hand, during and after birth.

13.01.2022 The power of vernix. Why waiting to bath your baby can be very beneficial. Typically pre term babies will have more vernix and full term will have absorbed it all but my baby girl came out covered with it at a week over due! Its amazing stuff. http://ow.ly/gItM30dYyiT

11.01.2022 Today I witnessed my first birth as a birth doula. An amazing experience, of an incredibly strong woman. I was honoured to assist her in her birth, and to fulfil any extra needs as a part of her birthing team. With persistance and determination she, with assistance from her close family, doula (me), and medical professionals, recieved the outcome she wanted.

03.01.2022 As part of my Doula practice I encourage women to trust their body and instincts ASWELL as the structured stages of labour. This, I think, stems from the fact my labours were not by the book, and I had to trust my own instincts. The benefits of hiring a Doula is I am there during this uncertain part, to help and support you. According to an extensive study fewer then 50% of women will meet hospitals "normal progress" criteria. Below are some interesting Conflicting messages H...ospital sends that stem from the fact labour is unpredictable, and your presence early is costly: -We are the experts in your labour progress, only our clinical assessments can determine what is happening... but wed rather you do not come in to be assessed, and instead stay at home not knowing what is going on. -Trust us we want you to have a good birth experience... but if you come in too early we are likely to create complications which will require intervention... so keep away from us as long as you can. -We are the experts in your labour progress, our clinical assessments can predict your future labour progress... we will send you home if you are found to be in early labour... if you then birth your baby in the car park it is not our fault as birth is unpredictable. -This is a safe place to labour.... but you can only access this safety when you reach a particular point in your labour... preferably close to the end of your labour i.e. you should do most of it on your own away from safety. (taken from my study through New Begginings Doula Training) Again they mean well, but it can be very confusing for women in labour. Hiring a Doula means you have a safe, knowledgable person during this uncertain time to assist you in pain relief and progression. There from the start to the end.
