01.01.2022 Road rules are enforced, for our safety. Pool fencing regulations have existed since 1991 but were not properly enforced. Now, we have a chance to do the right thing and ensure more lives like Hannah's, are not lost. Hannah's Foundation ....Why is pool compliance so difficult for people to understand? todays article by Keith Whiteside has stated that QLD Is now the Nanny state when it comes to pool laws. Mr Whiteside if you knew anything of our daughters tragedy she could swim, our pool was locked and fenced but the structure leading to it from our Queenslander veranda meant it was built illegally. What part of that don't you understand? The Coroner stated if the deck leading to the pool from the veranda wasn't built it would not have contributed to Hannah's death. Its people like this and their opinions that make this journey so difficult. Laws have been laws since 1991, yet no one enforced them. Why have laws if they aren't being followed. These laws were to save kids lives. Hannah died because an unlicensed owner built an illegal deck and council failed to rectify this on our inspection when purchasing our house. What part of making things right is so hard for other pool owners? If your pool doesn't comply ad a child drowns what then? Idiot remarks like this costs lives. Teaching kids to swim is just one barrier and it fails most of the time when kids are in trouble, shocked, knocked out, the list goes on. My supervision broke down because I was busy with a sick child who needed a nappy change. It was a daily task I did everyday. Hannah played on our verandah everyday she could see the pool where she played. No one in our family ever ever expected her to be so bloody darn smart to unlock the gate and jump to her death. She had only swum in the pool two nights before. Had swum since she was six months old, just like parents are told to teach their kids. Her lessons failed her. She died from Heart failure Mr Whiteside from Cold water shock immersion. I have my 000 call if you'd care to listen to my efforts at trying to save my daughter. I don't wish it anyone. I'm over the idiots who wish to take a swipe at the advocacy (unpaid) and the amount of time we have sat with grieving families to ensure that no child drowns. If you comment on our daughters tragedy we as her parents have the right of reply. Read the coroners findings. Supervision and compliant barriers at the same time saves lives. Supervision breakdown and Non compliant barriers KILL KIDS. Its that bloody simple. I hope it never happens to you Mr WHiteside.
