06.01.2022 A BIG congratulations to Aaron Holmes who took out the award for Apprentice Carpenter of The Year for 2104! Our National Apprentice Carpenter Of The Year is a 26 year old Melbournian who has be interested in building and drawing since he was at high school in 2004. If I can quote from his application I pride myself on being a dedicated workers that loves what I do and because of this, don’t have to work a day in my life.... He is clearly committed to producing work to the highest possible standard across all the disciplines of carpentry, both practical and theoretical. His NMIT 1st year, apprentice of the year award in 2013, gave him not only a career boost but the motivation to go even further. His work was acknowledged by his fellow workers and employer resulting in a rise up to 2nd year, almost 3 months early. It shows you what an apprentice can achieve with a bit of hard work and extra effort. The quality of his application for this award was outstanding. It shows that he has a clear understanding of, not only how to use the tools of his trade, but also how to present himself in a professional manna to the community at large. This will prove to be an advantage down the track if he chooses to develop his own business. It’s a credit to everyone who taught him. This apprentice currently works Northern Valley Constructions and was nominated by one his instructors Richard Ablett from Melbourne Polytechnic, someone who clearly though this apprentice had a bright future.

03.01.2022 A BIG congratulations to Ross O'Neill who took out the award for Carpenter of The Year for 2104! As a carpenter builder, this candidate has not only developed his own business Victorian Restorations Building Services, he employed his first qualified carpenter in 2005 and his 1st apprentice in 2006. That apprentice went on to win, best 3rd year apprentice for the Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE. His 2nd apprentice was employed as a school based apprentice and took out mult...iple awards during his apprentice ship, making it to state apprentice of the year finalists twice. Since 2006 he has employed 13 apprentices in a mix of school based and full time, 3 are currently employed. This year, through Master Builders, this builder was awarded the Bryian Fitzmaurice award. His building business has won 6 Master Builders awards, in commercial, renovations, new homes and sustainability categories. Apart from the awards that the quality and diversity of his work have attracted, this man has clearly provided the best training, supervision and mentoring to his current and past apprentices. On top of everything else he does, this builder is the current chairman of the Master Builders Bendigo. He has recognized the value of Carpenter Australia to this industry and is a current member. This is a man has not only built an award winning respected business, but is also someone who has given back to the industry, through the associations he is involved with and his support for young carpenters.
