24.01.2022 The Very Best of the Carpenters was a compilation album by the Carpenters and was released in 1983 by Festival Records in Australia and New Zealand. The album spent one week at the top of the Australian album chart in 1983. The album was the only Oceania-exclusive compilation of the Carpenters' material released by Festival Records. ... Although the album is not specifically a "greatest hits" collection, several of the tracks did not reach the charts in either Australia or New Zealand: "Ticket to Ride"; "This Masquerade", as it was not a single; and "Those Good Old Dreams". "Beechwood 4-5789" was only a hit in New Zealand, reaching number 10 on the singles chart there in early 1982. On the cover of the album, "It's Going to Take Some Time" is titled "It's Going to Take Some Time This Time" and "(They Long to Be) Close to You" is simply rendered "Close to You"

17.01.2022 Karen Carpenter died on February 3 1983. It's hard to believe it has been 37 years since her passing Her struggles with eating disorders would later raise awareness of anorexia and body dysmorphia. Such a beautiful woman in so many ways, yet the feeling of not being good enough would drive her to an early grave.... It's important to remember that reinforcement of self worth and resilience in young women can be life changing

16.01.2022 Reminder. This Friday night 6.30pm.

16.01.2022 CLOSE TO YOU was the second studio album by The Carpenters. It was recorded fifty years ago today, on May 15 1970 and released on August 19, 1970. In 2003, the album was ranked number 175 on Rolling StoneMagazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, maintaining the rating in a 2012 revised list.... The album contains the hit singles "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun". Close to You was the duo's song that gained them an international reputation for a decade. The album topped the Canadian Albums Chart and peaked at #2 on the US Billboard albums chart. It was also successful in the United Kingdom, entering the top 50 of the official chart for 76 weeks during the first half of the 1970s.

16.01.2022 A KIND OF HUSH This was the Carpenters seventh studio album and it was released on 11 June 1976. By the time of the album's recording Richard's addiction to sleeping pills had begun to affect him professionally, and he blames this for the album being, in his opinion, sub-par.... All three excerpted singles became hits. "There's a Kind of Hush (All Over the World)", a cover of a 1960s song by Herman's Hermits, broke both the UK Top 30 and US Top 20, as well as topping the adult contemporary chart. "I Need to Be in Love" hit number 25 in the US and number 36 in the UK. "Goofus" was only a minor success, stalling at number 56 on the Billboard chart, though it did crack the adult contemporary top 10. John Bettis called "I Need to Be in Love" the favourite lyrics he ever wrote for Karen. "If there was ever anything that came out of my heart straight to Karen's I would say that was it. I was very proud of it for that." Richard Carpenter recalled that the song "became Karen's favourite Carpenters song". The album was also the first not to have Karen playing drums on any tracks, which were performed by Los Angeles session drummer Jim Gordon. Despite being certified Gold, the album was a relative commercial disappointment in the US, where its chart peak was outside the Top 30. Like its predecessor Horizon, it performed better in the UK, reaching number three in the UK Albums Chart. The CD has been out of print since 2006 except in the Japanese market.

It was released by A&M Records in 1996. It has sold around 1 million copies worldwide. The album was recorded in New York with producer Phil Ramone while her brother Richard was being treated for an addiction to Quaaludes. Some of the songs from the album were later featured on the Carpenters' 1989 compilation Lovelines and later releases. In the liner notes, Karen dedicated the project to her brother "To Richard, with all my heart." The album was shelved. On February 3, 1983, the day before Carpenter’s death, she called Ramone to discuss the album; according to Ramone, Carpenter said, "I hope you don't mind if I curse. I still love our fucking record!" It remained shelved until 1996 thirteen years after Carpenter’s death.

The Carpenters' songs were mainly from their television specials. "When I Fall in Love" was originally recorded in 1978 for their TV special, Space Encounters. However, they chose "Little Girl Blue" for that special instead, and later used "When I Fall in Love" in their Music, Music, Music! TV special in 1980. Other outtakes included "Kiss Me the Way You Did Last Night" and "The Uninvited Guest" from Made in America, the studio album released in 1981 and the last completed during Karen's lifetime.
