24.01.2022 Get Ready QLD: Key messages - for young people It’s important to involve the whole family in your household’s preparedness planning for disaster season, so that everyone knows what to do and where to go in an emergency. Get Ready Queensland has a range of resources for children and families to help with preparations ahead of the severe weather season. ... Get Ready Queensland Challenge Help your kids learn more about the importance of preparing for disasters in Queensland by playing the Get Ready Queensland Challenge. The Challenge is an age-appropriate introduction to the types of disasters most common to Queenslanders, and the different tasks people can do to minimise the impact of severe weather. The game aims to engage and empower children to be part of their household’s emergency planning through undertaking a range of virtual disaster preparedness challenges like identifying risks, looking out for neighbours, removing hazards, and packing emergency kits. Visit getready.qld.gov.au/game to play. For more information, visit https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/

21.01.2022 Between A Croc and a Hard Place Life in the Gulf is not for the faint hearted. Where there are barra you will find the largest reptile on earth, the super steal...th hunter, the saltwater crocodile. What chance do you have against a prehistoric creature that can travel large stretches of sea and hundreds of kilometres of inland rivers, weighs 200-300 kgs, grows 3-5 metres, can swim underwater for long periods holding its breath, slowing its heart rate and seeing through transparent eyelids before approaching underwater and slamming their gnarly jaws on their ambushed prey. Not even the canny barramundi is safe. 03.01.2022 Passion Fish? Amongst its other names, those who believe an Aboriginal folk tale can also call barramundi "passion fish" for its supposed aphrodisiacal attribut...es. The name arises from a dreamtime story from before there were fish in the sea. This was when two aboriginal lovers, forbidden to wed leapt into the ocean so they could be together forever. Here they became barramundi fish with the spines on their back representing the spears thrown at them during their escape. True love is never easy. Happy BarraMonday! The framed acrylic artwork of two barramundi is by local artist John Henry. Available at the Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre. #barracentre #karumba #exploretnq #holidayherethisyear #outbackqueensland #goodtogo #happybarramonday
