23.01.2022 When we work together, things get done. THE MUSTER. The station owner saddles up... and shouts to every Jackaroo, Come on men the time has come, we’ve got some work to do ! There’s a thousand hooves I want to hear, before this day is through. A thousand hooves in the holding yard. Let’s see what you can do. ! Jack, you get behind them, you too Bill and Drew. You’ll be the ones to push ‘em up, to keep them on the move. The orders keep on ringing out above the sounding of the hooves. Joe get out and flank ‘em, yes, you know what to do ! And a thousand hooves start thundering across the Brigalow plains. A thousand hooves and stock men are on the move again. No, there’s no time to smell the Roses. get in there and push ‘em on. Wheel ‘em round and keep ‘em tight or we’ll lose them on the run. Tom get back and grab those strays heading for the trees, I want this mob together when we reach the homestead creek ! And a thousand hooves are on the move towards a setting sun, Ten miles of dust they’ve left behind on a day that’s nearly done. Yes a stockmen worth his weight is salt can turn a steer toward a gate, and the owner counts them one by one. 250 head that’s Great ! A thousand hooves turn quiet at the setting of the sun. Just one more shout rings through the air. Great work boys !! Well Done !!

21.01.2022 Country people know that it's not only about making a living in small towns. It's just as much about giving back to those small communities that give you that chance to live there. For me, the pleasure of writing about some of our own folk, telling stories they can relate to, is my way of giving back. ----------------------------------------------... . When I was Ringer Sometimes I’d see him sitting there, just an old man with his cane. Sometimes he’d talk about the times, when he worked the Western plains. And he’d tell about the Cocky, with five thousand sheep to shear. and how he was the Ringer way back in those golden years. Now the Ringer was the bloke He’d say, when the count was done, that had the numbers in the holding yard, and I tell you, more than not.. I was the one ! He’d recall the young bloke Bob, and give a chuckle too, He couldn’t handle greasy sheep, ....I showed him a thing or two, Yeah, he was wet behind the ears, God knows how he got through ! And McNelly’s boy was Lightning Jack He was our roustabout. He got his name for being so slow, when the call for tar went out ! McNelly owned the station, he called " Merino Run", He’d walk the board, inpatient, to see the shearing done. But he’d feed us well and pay us fair when we were on his run. He’d shake our hands and thank us all, when all the work was done. Then the old man took a moment, and a deep breath for a time. I guess he could smell that old shed somewhere back inside his mind. And he looked at me with these last words, said with sadness..and delight.. Once you’ve held those blades my boy, they’re with you all your life. Sometimes I’d see him sitting there, just an old man with his cane. and once again, there in his mind, He'd work the boards again.

20.01.2022 Mid clean. Most carpets aren’t this dirty but when they are, our machine and products can do the job! Unfortunately when carpets haven’t been cleaned for a while the dirt can become quite deeply embedded meaning it’s a much bigger job. Got a job we can help you with?

15.01.2022 Maintaining your carpet. Short pile or long pile carpet over time "flattens". It (particularly in heavy traffic areas) lays flat on the next line of fiber stitched. This "matting" of the carpet fiber holds dirt and grime.... Hidden between the layers this dirt, over time, releases tannin staining into the carpet. It also acts like sandpaper and again, over time, wears away the carpet fiber be it nylon or wool. Broken fibers absorb staining very easily making the carpet look dirty and ragged. Most of today's modern vacuum cleaners have a driven rotor brush that sweeps the surface dirt into the vacuum area of the machine. This works well for soft items on the surface but cannot (particularly with short pile carpets) lift dirt and grime trapped in between these layers. At least, not with out the help of a carpet rake. To extend the life of any carpet I would use one of these rakes prior to vacuuming. A carpet rake is relatively cheap at around $80 (Whytes Cleaning supplies Ferntree Gully are where I order mine from) They stand the carpet back up on end as it should be prior to cleaning. They prevent matting of heavy traffic areas and can "Untangle" carpet pile. They are a nylon brush that will last life time on domestic use. Used in the same way one would use a garden rake, it will break away dirt from the fibers ensuring your machine can remove all that is possible to move. A quick rake after the vacuuming is done brings your carpet looking like it has a new life too !! A cleaner carpet reduces the need to have it cleaned professionally and reduces the risk of bacterial or fungal infestation, always a risk to anyones health and they stay looking fresher. In my opinion, a carpet rake is the most important aid in maintaining a clean and healthy carpet that should last many years.

When I walked down the street and see your old familiar face, not dressed in Yellow, not today, just a worker around the place. How do I find the words I need ? When, Appreciation is not enough. When admiration is just another word I can’t express from this old heart. And how do I tell so many of all the good you do? Of the hidden endless hours your training puts you through. You’re the Butcher, you’re the Chippy, the farmer in the field. You’re the one that loves to have a chat, as you serve a nice hot meal. Though, you’re not what you appear to be when all is said and done. You’re CFA at any moment When you get that call to run. Yes, I’d like to write a song, to you of the CFA. 13.01.2022 Mad flappers that make you smile. Tarnagulla's Tarna Galahs, Silliest bird I've seen by far !... You see them in the gum trees. See them flapping in the sky !! Never a bird was so absurd makes you stop and wonder why.. Tarnagulla's Tarna Galahs, Silliest bird I've seen by far ! They dress themselves in pink and grey, in great big flocks they squawk all day, Yes, they screech and scream and all those things sometimes you can't think for their din. On sunny days or pouring rain these birds love messing with my brain. but I wouldn't have any other way. for they're part of us that I hope will stay. So have a smile, give a grin should you happen to see these silly things. and just remember who's they are These... Tarnagulla's Tarna Galahs, Silliest bird you'll see by far !

09.01.2022 The Letter. Mother cried all that first year. Wars end brought no satisfaction. I was there the day dad read out, ... Our boys been killed in action And sweetest Molly fell to the floor. She wept and screamed with mother. In all her life she never wed. .There never was another. Your rabbit traps and fishing rods, hung on the wall for years. I couldn’t bring myself to use them. Not without fighting back my tears. And I don’t use our camping spot, thought the bush is just the same. The cold West wind running through the leaves, .always call your name. And Father stands on ANZAC Day, a proud but empty man. He shares a beer with all your mates plays two-up, when he can. And Molly always walks him home, .to see him to his gate. She’s stuck like glue to both of them. ..She’s been a bottler mate. Sister Lizzy, well, she has four kids. They keep you in their prayers. She smiles, when they tell the Lord .You’re the bravest uncle there Your picture is hanging on her wall, she talks to it every day. And thanks big brother for guiding her, to the woman she is today. Oh !, And can you say good day to mum ? Tell her we miss her so. I’ll bet she’s right there with you. She’ll be happy there I know ! Well, I guess old mate, it’s time to go, and stand with dad again. Yes, stand beside the cenotaph. And speak of extra ordinary men.

05.01.2022 There’s a lake out on the Western plains, that spreads as far as I can see. It sparkles in the mid-day sun, to far off shimmering trees.... There’s a lake out on the Western plains, it caught me by surprise. In the Summer heat it glistens, But it’s an illusion to my eyes. For in its Sundrenched centre, I see cattle, heads held low. Thin and starving cattle, with nowhere else to go. Their hooves create a cloud of dust like a fog across the lake. For them a land of misery, with every step they take. There’s a lake out on the Western plains, Though, it never, never rains. A mirage of a bygone dream, And every farmer knows its pain. And early every morning, before the lake appears, The farmer rides in despair, and culls the worst worn steers, There’s a lake out on the Western plains, That every farmer knows. 05.01.2022 #toptip Take care to check under furniture for damage. Carpet cleaning is never going to fix this unfortunately. This part will need replacing or a whole new carpet, a shame because the rest of the room came up beautifully
