22.01.2022 As we enter our 4th week working from home, here are a few tips to help with not only isolation but the feeling of isolation. We have been using Microsoft teams. Others are using Zoom, facetime, messanger, Slack and googlemeet. We have a morning meeting every day at 9am to discuss work, have a chat, a laugh and help keep us connected. Stay safe, take care and look after each other. We are all in this together.

21.01.2022 As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, our priority is to continue providing the best client service whilst protecting the health and safety of our clients, their families and our team. As a precautionary measure for the time being we will not be holding any meetings with clients until further notice and request that all enquiries be made via email or phone. Please do not visit the office, phone us if you need to hand in bulky documents. It is possible ...that in the near future our staff will be working from home. We are very fortunate that the processes and technology that we use make it possible for us to continue working offsite. 09.01.2022 Just a quick update on what we announced today for renters and landlords: We've extended the ban on evictions and rental increases until the end of the year s...o if you fall behind or you're doing it tough because of coronavirus, you can't be evicted. And we've boosted new residential Rental Relief Grants up to $3,000 for tenants and landlords too if you've already received a $2,000 grant, you could be eligible for an additional $1,000. Land tax relief has doubled to 50% for eligible landlords, and a new $60 million relief fund has been established for small commercial landlords struggling to cover their costs. We're making things fairer for small business owners too, and rent reductions will now be based on the financial situation of each business. And the Small Business Commissioner now has new powers to enforce rent reductions where an agreement can't be reached. We don't want people worrying about the roof over their head or stressing over the rent right now. And these changes give Victorians a bit of extra security while we fight this pandemic.

08.01.2022 Deduction for vehicle expenses disallowed. In a decision of the AAT, a taxpayer, Mr Bell, was a denied a deduction for $21,565.73 of work-related vehicle expenses for the 2016 income year. Mr Bell contended that he was required to use his vehicle to transport heavy/bulky goods (tools) between his home and his workplace and to collect supplies and equipment from hardware stores while travelling between his workplace and his home.... Ordinarily, travel from home-to-work (and back again) is considered non-deductible. However, if an employee is required to carry heavy/bulky equipment for which there are no secure storage facilities at work, the travel between home and work with the heavy/bulky equipment can be considered deductible. Unfortunately for Mr Bell, evidence before the Tribunal indicated that there were safe and secure storage facilities for his tools (the bulky/heavy equipment) at the worksite. Accordingly, Mr Bell was unable to rely upon the ‘bulky goods’ exception to recharacterise home-to-work travel as being a deductible work expense. Instead, it retained its ordinary private and non-deductible status.
