24.01.2022 MEMBER FAREWELL | we are saddened by the passing of renowned horseman Dick White. A man who always had an affinity with horses, Dick rode horses to school, he t...rick rode on them, and the story goes that he began rough-riding when he was just 13. Rodeo road took Dick all over Australia and during his time he won nine state titles including the Carrieton Buck Jump Championships in 1960 and the ARRA Australian Steer Wrestling title in the same year. In 1959 at Carrieton Rodeo, Dick drew the notorious bucking horse, Cloudbuster, the ride was captured by Hoofs and Horns editor and photographer, the late Keith Stevens, and the iconic shot is acknowledged world-wide as one of the most spectacular rodeo photographs ever taken. In the mid 1960s Dick based himself at Morphetville, not far from the race course, where he started breaking-in and pre-training race horses for a number of trainers, including Bart Cummings, including some Melbourne Cup winners. In 1977, Dick, wife Janet and daughters Mary-Ann, Anita and Kate, moved to Globe Derby Park, and Dick started a new career, training and driving trotters. In 1979, Dick retired from rodeoing when he was 45 but he continued his association with all equine activities and donated trophies to the Peterborough Rodeo 2nd Division Saddle Bronc and the Dick White Open Saddle Bronc trophy at the Carrieton Rodeo. He had a strong involvement with the Marrabel Rodeo too. In 2014 Dick created his own award recognising the unsung volunteers of rodeo - the Dick White Service to Rodeo in SA award. Dick presented the first of these in December that year, and since then five more volunteers have received this award. Dick was well known and highly regarded Australia-wide and will be sadly missed by his immediate family and friends. Our condolences go out to Dick’s family, friends and community, happy trails old cowboy. 21.01.2022 The Carrieton Rodeo Club General Meeting scheduled for tomorrow night has been postponed until further notice. Apologies for any inconvenience.

19.01.2022 We might be a small town but we have a world class rodeo! How good is this performance by Kyle Maskiel and Woodall Rodeo Promotions Gambler. Thanks to Kurt Walter Fine Art Images for this great photo.

17.01.2022 The Carrieton Rodeo Club are disappointed that today we are not busy putting drinks on ice, mustering rodeo horses, watering the arena and getting prepared to welcome all our friends to town. Instead we are having a well earned rest and making some big improvements to the grounds so that we can have bigger and better rodeos for years to come. We hope everyone has a safe holiday season with family and friends and can’t wait to see you back in town in 2021!

02.01.2022 The Carrieton Rodeo Club held a meeting last night and we are sad and dissappointed to announce that we made the hard decision to not hold a rodeo in 2020. This is the first time in the Carrieton Rodeo's 67 year history that the event will not be held. We hope all of our sponsors, supporters and rodeo tragics stick by us and we can't wait to see you all back bigger and better in 2021.

02.01.2022 The Carrieton Rodeo Club are extremely saddened by the passing of Dick White and send our deepest condolences to Dick's family and loved ones. Dick was a cornerstone of the Carrieton Rodeo, and has long been a great friend and supporter of the event. It is hard to comprehend a Carrieton Rodeo without his endearing presence and generous personality. He will be greatly missed by us all.
