25.01.2022 It has come to our attention that members of the community believe that the brigade is a drop off point for out of date/unused flares. This is incorrect. Victoria Police are the responsible agency for disposing of flares so please don’t bring them to the fire station as we cannot accept them.

24.01.2022 Fire Truck Friday - Part 2: Late last week, Carrum Downs Fire Brigade welcomed the latest member to our vehicle fleet. Our New Forward Control Vehicle (FCV) replaces our model Ford Ranger. The new vehicle is based on the 2020 Ford Ranger XL 4x4 dual cab ute, and is fitted with a Ridgeback service body, that was previously fitted to our old Ford Ranger. The use of the Ridgeback body provides us with a customised rear cargo area that incorporates whiteboards, storage drawer...s and work bench space. The Forward Control Vehicle is used to assist with command and control at fires within the Carrum Downs Fire Brigade response area, transporting crews to incidents, assisting with traffic management at incident scenes, crew transport to training sessions and attending community safety events in the local area. The FCV can also be used at major bush and grass fires as a command vehicle for CFA strike teams. The FCV has updated warning devices which provide a 360 degree pattern of warning lights when functioning, and a full suite of CFA radios and UHF CB radios. The new unit was purchased with funds raised by servicing our Fire Equipment Maintenance clients within our local area and donations generously donated by the community, and during our fund raising activities such as sausage sizzles and our annual Christmas Tree sales. A huge thankyou to must go our to Carrum Downs and Marriott Waters Community Bank Branches, who donated a considerable sum to assist us in replacing the old Ranger. We would also like to thank our Fire Equipment Maintenance clients for their ongoing support, and the communities of Carrum Downs, Sandhurst and parts of Seaford for generously donating to us through out the year. 24.01.2022 #firesafetysunday Over the last few weeks, crews from Carrum Downs Fire Brigade, along with our colleagues from our neighbouring brigades and Fire Rescue Victoria stations, have attended multiple house fires. Over the coming weeks, we will be spreading the Fire Safety message via our Facebook page. The first of our Fire Safety Sunday's is aimed at fire safety in the kitchen. The video shown here gives us some tips on what to do if whatever you are cooking catches fire on ...the stove. Always remember, never leave your cooking unattended and ensure you turn your cooking off if you need to leave for any reason. https://www.facebook.com/CFADistrict12/videos/526846601583126/

24.01.2022 In recent months we have seen an increase in house fires in CFA areas and sadly across the state, six lives have been lost. CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria are asking all Victorians to know their risks and be prepared when it comes to fire safety around the home.

21.01.2022 The Australian National Flag is being flown in front of the Fire Station today, in a show of respect for the sacrifice of all who have died for Australia. At 10.30am, the Australian National Flag will be lowered to Half Mast. The Australian National Flag will then be raised to its peak, at 11.02am, and will remain there for the rest of the day. These timings allow for ceremonial duties to be carried out, including a minute silence at 11.00am... "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn; At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them."

20.01.2022 A year ago today, fires were ravaging parts of East Gippsland and the North East of the state. The destruction these fires caused for our communities is still f...elt by many to this day. It’s been an incredibly challenging year for everyone. From fires, to COVID and everything in between, our volunteers and communities have shown their resilience and spirit. 18.01.2022 Daylight savings ends this Sunday at 3.00am. This is a perfect opportunity to make sure that you have a working smoke alarm. Carrum Downs Fire Brigade has attended 2 house fires in the last week where the smoke alarms had not operated. 16.01.2022 #FIRETRUCKFRIDAY: This week for Fire Truck Friday we have Carrum Downs Tanker, our primary appliance for the rural environment, with the capacity to support our pumper in the urban setting also. Tankers are the backbone of the CFA fleet with over 1600 tankers of different types in service across the state.... Our tanker is a 4.4C model which means it carries 4000 litres of water, is a 4 wheel drive and is a Crew Cab, meaning all the crew are carried in the cab of the truck. The Tanker carries the tools necessary to respond to grass and scrub fires, bush fires and fires where water sources are limited. These tools include Breathing Apparatus, hoses, branches, a crew deck for fighting bush and grass fires, a front mounted water monitor and a chainsaw. The appliance can normally carry a crew of up to 5 fire fighters, but is now limited to 4 fire fighters during the CoVid restrictions. The appliance carries 4000 litres of water, 50 litres of 'A' class foam. The truck is fitted with a GAAM pump mounted on a stand alone engine, providing 1200 litres of water per minute at 700 kpa. The appliance is based on an Iveco Eurocargo 4wd truck with a Gross Vehicle Mass of 15 tonnes, fitted with an 6 speed Automated Manual Transmission. The Tanker was built in 2016, and has been in-service with Carrum Downs since 2018. #cfavic

16.01.2022 The CFA (Country Fire Authority) has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are thanking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits.... If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe. #sparkinthedark #StaySafe #cfavic

16.01.2022 #Firetruckfriday Flash Back series. Over the last 2 months we have been going through all the vehicles that have served with Carrum Downs Fire Brigade. This week is the last in the series. This week we are turning back the clock just 5 years, to our Forward Control Vehicle that replaced the Nissan Navara in 2015. The 2015 Ford XL Ranger 4x4 vehicle was chosen due to its carrying capacity, and the sheer number of these units coming into service with CFA. The Brigade felt th...at a ute with a tub and Canopy wasn't user friendly in its role of Strike Team Leader and as an Incident Control point. We utilised a custom trade body from Ridgeback Service Bodies to set a high standard in ergonomics for use in those roles, as well as other duties performed by the vehicle for the brigade. The body could also be easily swapped to another chassis when it came time to swap the chassis, as was done earlier this year with our current Ford Ranger. The unit was fitted with 2 CFA Digital radios, for dispatch and fireground channels, a CFA Trunking Radio for Command and control functions, a UHF CB and a mobile phone. This unit and body were funded by money raised by the brigade through fundraising activities such as Sausage Sizzles, our annual Christmas Tree sales, Triva nights and other activities, co-ordinated by our Brigade Support Team. This unit was in service from Oct 2015 until July 2020. In that time it has responded to major fires at Tyabb, Pines Flora & Fauna Reserve Fire - Jan 2018, Grantville Fire - Feb 2019, Bunyip Fire - March 2019, East Gippsland Fires - Dec 2019 - Feb 2020. Thanks for following and stay tuned for some #FlashbackFriday fun coming up.

15.01.2022 #Firetruckfriday Flashback series Over the last 3 Fire Truck Fridays, we have shown you the current fleet at Carrum Downs Fire Station. Over the next weeks we are going to look back at appliances that have served with Carrum Downs Fire Brigade. This week, our previous pumpers are up. We were lucky enough to have 2 of these little pumpers serve with the brigade, the first from 1990 to 1992 and the 2nd from 1992 until 2005.... This Pumper is based on an mid 1980's design built on a Ford Trader or Mazda T4000 Cab Chassis. The truck could carry up to as many as 7 crew in it, with 3 in the front and 4 in the back. The truck was equipped with a truck driven Thompson pump that could pump 2000 litres per minute and a small auxiliary pump that could pump 159 litres per minute, ideal for fighting grass fires or mopping up after a fire. The truck had 1000 litres of water and 100 litres of 'B' class foam. The truck was fitted our to carry 2 Breathing Apparatus, hose, ladders and other equipment for use at house fires. The 2nd truck was phased out in 2005, when the brigade received our current pumper.

14.01.2022 #Firetruckfriday flashback series For todays Fire Truck Friday, we thought we would go through our historical CFA Supplied Tankers. We will be doing this subject over a few weeks. First cab off the rank was an Austin Series 3 small town unit, fitted with a 1800 litre water tank, Grazcos pump, hydrants, a ladder and additional hose. These units were built by the CFA Workshops in Ballarat. This tanker served with Carrum Downs Fire Brigade from 1960 - 1971, prior to 1960 we uti...lised a trailer pump. The second CFA supplied tanker was a Leyland 338N, fitted with a 400 gallon (1800 litres) of water, a Grazcos pump, additional hose and a ladder. It served with the brigade from 1971 to 1980. These appliances were built at the CFA workshops in Ballarat. The next CFA supplied tanker was the first cab over design for Carrum Downs Brigade, being an International ACCO 1710B powered by a V8 petrol motor, this 2 wheel drive truck was fitted with a Fibreglass body, carrying 3000 litres of water, with the pump installed on the crew deck. The unit was built by a company called Domino Hedges in Brisbane. Stay tuned for next week when we go through the next CFA supplied tankers to the brigade.

07.01.2022 This New Year's Eve, don't let your celebrations put your community at risk. With many official displays now cancelled, we urge you to avoid the dangers of illegal fireworks. Don't ruin the party by letting your fireworks become a grassfire.

07.01.2022 Today is Blue Ribbon Day, which coincides with National Police Remembrance Day. This is a chance for the community to say thankyou to those who protect and serve the community and to ensure that those who have fallen in the line of duty are never forgotten. This year it means more than ever, with Victoria Police tragically losing four members in April. Their names have been added to the Victoria Police Honour roll at the Victorian Police Memorial in Kings Domain, Melbourne.

06.01.2022 #FiresafetySunday With the start of spring, with the weather warming up, we are generally getting our BBQ's out for the first time since last summer. Here are a few tips on what to look for to ensure that your BBQ remains safe. Scott Grimme 4th Lieutenant Community Safety and Engagement Officer Carrum Downs Fire Brigade

03.01.2022 Members of Carrum Downs Fire Brigade are at the Seaford Park Primary School community fete until 7:00 pm. Come on down and say hello to the crew and see on of our appliances.

02.01.2022 The last couple of months have been difficult for us all. Restrictions have severely limited our ability to train and maintain our skills to help keep our community safe. That changes this coming Tuesday. Our brigade will commence our ever important pre-summer skills maintenance drills. As an emergency service, we have been granted permission to commence this mandatory training under strict CoVid complaint guidelines. These restrictions include having a CoVid Co-ordinator as each session, everything is cleaned and sanitized after each use, and correct Personal Protective Clothing and equipment is used at all times. There will be a maximum of 10 participants, including the CoVid co-ordinator, per session. So if you happen to see us out and about over the coming weeks, give us a socially distant wave, and please stay safe.

02.01.2022 Father's Day looks a little different this year. Happy Fathers Day to all the Father's, Step-Dads, Grand-Fathers out there in any shape and form. A big thank you to the Dads in the brigade, here's hoping your Fathers Day isnt interupted by any callouts. Our thoughts are also with the many Dads no longer with us, but forever in our hearts.Father's Day looks a little different this year. 01.01.2022 It's almost that time of the year again. We know that this year is a little bit different to other years, and we know that a lot of things that we normally take for granted have not been able to happen this year. We understand that a lot of people are looking forward to Christmas, and the traditional smell of a fresh cut Christmas Tree. We are working on ways to keep that tradition alive this year, in a CoVID safe way. Pending Victorian Government CoVID and C...FA approval, Carrum Downs Fire Brigade will be looking at going online with our annual Christmas Tree sales fresh from Farm to your door. Check back in with our Facebook in the coming weeks for more details.

01.01.2022 Don't forget Daylight savings begins tonight. So it's time to turn your clock forward 1 hour at 2am tonight. It also makes sense to check your smoke detectors to ensure that they are functioning correctly.

01.01.2022 How well do you know fire - be prepared Did you know the flame temperature of a bushfire can reach 1100c? It will be too late to make a plan when a fire is approaching.... Be prepared and know what you’ll do in the event of a fire. #PlanActSurvive #cfavic #StaySafe
