23.01.2022 Today we installed our 100-year-old exposed hoop pine bearers over the kitchen/dining/living space of our current granny flat build. We’re keeping the underside rough sawn and have waxed them all round. Ceiling goes in tomorrow, sandwiched between these and the joists. Bearers at 900 centres is overkill but a good excuse to use this beautiful timber. :) #grannyflat #exposedbeams #hooppine #cohousing

12.01.2022 11pm - the best time of day to check the house for level. Ah the joys of building your own place ;)

12.01.2022 All this for one screw fixing. Countersink > clearance hole > sacrificial bit to go through villaboard > pilot hole > batten screw. It’s a bit of an odd way to build a floor but it makes for a slick looking ceiling. The villaboard is sandwiched between an exposed bearer below and the joist above.

05.01.2022 Up we go! The kids have a bedroom now. There will be a window through the void down to the dining area and big planter boxes wrapping around the courtyard garden to add a leafy backdrop to the view on arrival. #cartergibbs #grannyflat
