17.01.2022 Here’s a video of my Middle Earth inspired map of Victoria, printed on the new antique sepia parchment! I really enjoy how this paper gives off a real old map feel - it goes pretty well with the Lord of the Rings theme. . This was actually the very first map I drew as part of the Cartography Chronicles collection - I remember many nights of feverishly drawing into the early hours of the morning; I simply couldn’t put the pens down! Whenever I’d finish one little section I’d ...already be wanting to link it with the next area. I’d end up doing these marathon 8 hour drawing sessions, but time has never passed so quickly before! . 17.01.2022 Need a great gift for someone from NSW or feeling like getting some art on your wall at home? Check out this little video exploring the New South Wales map! . This map has been hand-drawn in red and black ink over a 60 hours, and was immensely enjoyable to draw - it really is a bit of a cartographer's dream (not that I should have favourites). The state boundaries make it easily recognisable, and the abundance of wilderness, the soaring Great Dividing Range, diverse rivers a...nd long coastline and unique cities and townships combine to make for a well balanced and satisfying map. From the salt lakes and small towns of the NSW Outback, across the wheat belt and many rivers of the Riverina lands, over the Eastern Divide and onto the hilly coastal regions, New South Wales is home to a truly unique geography that was a pleasure to draw. . The largest element of the map is the Great Dividing Range, stretching the length of the entire map dividing the well forested coastal regions from the Western plains. The mountainous areas and surrounding highlands have many peaks over 1,000m that have individual labels, with areas such as Barrington Tops, the Blue Mountains, the Warrumbungles and the iconic Snowy Mountains having an added level of detail to mark them out. All major river systems, salt lakes and bodies of water have been included, and the Tasman Sea has been clearly marked. . The New South Wales map speaks to the diverse wilderness, mountain ranges and coastline that make this state so spectacular. As a special nod to Christopher Tolkien, the original cartographer of the Lord of the Rings map, I have drawn this state map with a compass that has very similar characteristics to his own. 16.01.2022 A little South Australia update! After a bit of reading, researching, scouring existing maps and chatting with SA friends, I feel like I have a good idea of what needs to go into this map. Stay tuned for more regular updates now that I’ve started filling in the details!

09.01.2022 Do you have a favourite map? . So far I’ve managed to do State maps for Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland, and one regional map focusing on Victoria’s alpine region. .
