25.01.2022 This amazing mural has been painted not far from us on Guildford Road at the Water Corporation pumping station just past the bridge. What a beautiful and bright transformation, telling an important story of the First Nations People. #firstnationspeople #communityart #casamia #montessori #bassendean #guildford #streetmural #streetmurals

25.01.2022 Spring must be on the way! Look what we found in the garden a spitfire caterpillar! Not to be confused with the spitfire grub, the larvae of the sawfly that secrete a goop of spit that is actually not harmful to humans. Did you know these caterpillars dont spit either, but rather have pockets of stinging spines that they stick out when they feel threatened. If touched these hairs may cause a burning sensation and rash. The caterpillar grows to a length of 7 cms. #CasaMia #Spring #spitfire #caterpillars #Bassendean #Montessori #school

21.01.2022 The Maali students prepared presentations on their iPads for the Koomal students, Karak students and the staff, as well as games such as pin the proboscis on the mosquito, chatterbox origami, crosswords and a model of a mosquito. To prepare games and presentations to teach the younger students was a challenge set to them by their teacher. They had to share the knowledge that Rose from SERCUL taught them on mosquitoes and how to stop their spread. They had a few weeks to orga...nise this and really have learned so much from the incursion that was at the end of term 2. Well done Maali on your excellent presentations and games! #CasaMia #SERCUL #Mosquitoes #learning #teaching

19.01.2022 Here are some examples of Practical Life activities our Casa Mia children have been practicing in the class lately. One of the activities is polishing metal, another watercolour painting and then painting on the easel. Once the child has finished the activity, they are required to clean up after themselves, leaving the activity clean and ready for the next student who wishes to paint or take the tray from the shelf. #CasaMia #PracticalLife #EarlyLearning #Montessori #Bassendean

13.01.2022 This term Karak (Lower Primary School years 1 to 3) have been learning the Montessori Great Lesson - The Story of Writing. Part of understanding the history involved talking about the very first cave paintings that have been found all over the world in various locations, including Western Australia. We talked about the possible reasons they were created, and the need for communication through record keeping, reporting and storytelling. After watching a Youtube video about h...ow to create a cave painting and what mediums and tools were used by the original cave artists, we created our own! We hope that you enjoy viewing our Cave Painting Gallery as much as we did creating the pieces!
