23.01.2022 AContra Amigos!! We miss you! We miss dancing! We know you do too so watch this space. We have an idea coming soon..... BUT in the meantime, some good news in these weird times: AContra is thrilled to announce we are forming a Junior Squad! First recruit, this guy: MASON (middle name Salsero, last name Setenta*) Jazzy Jaz and her husband Pete welcomed this little legend a few weeks ago. We wanted to give mum, dad and bub some time to rest and bond as a familia, but... we knew our little Salsa Community would want to meet our newest recruit! We had a surprise Baby shower (via Zoom of course) back in May so thanks to everyone who helped stealth organise, came along, wrote in the e-card or donated for the gift we purchased. Apologies if you missed the invite, we had to keep it on the down low so Jazzy didn't suspect! In fact, we surprised her twice: firstly at our fake team meeting, during which everyone was asked, "What are you most looking forward to in 2020?" Everyone except Jaz wrote, "Jazzy's Baby" Cue tears. Cute! Secondly, when we joined the "other" surprise party with all of you lovely people. More fun and games- including a sing-a-long lullaby practice to Nico. Video FINALLY (I know, I know) coming soon! The world keeps turning, babies keep being cute and we WILL dance again! Let's not leave it so long to talk next time Casineros xx *No his name really isn't Mason SALSERO SETENTA. But, if anyone does name their newborn that, Salsa lessons on us, for life. % guaranteed !!

02.01.2022 What an awesome turnout last night Melbourne Casineros! You really did us proud!!! Our guests from the UK loved your energy and were suitably impressed by the level of dancing in all the classes! Great work everyone :) We're going to party with them and send off Akshar & Julie after their fleeting visit home with a massive night of dancing tomorrow night. And who else to keep us on the dance floor, but our very own DJ Mick Williams! 02.01.2022 ***FLASHBACK FRIDAY*** That time you take your international visitors to see Aussie comedy (show them some 'Strayan Culture!) for a cause and end up doing a Rueda on stage in front of 300 or so unsuspecting people!! It was a magical night full of coincidences, laughs and music courtesy of some awesome comedians and musicians who donated their time to support those affected by the Australian bushfires. Remember when we thought *THAT* was as bad as it could get in 2020?! The ...host for the night, Brian Nankervis spotted our friend and awesome dancer Diego from High Five Salsa (UK/Spain) in the crowd and made our night by calling on him throughout the show for various "jobs" and comic relief. THEN (as if it couldn't possibly get any better!), he invited us up for a dance! Luckily, we had the AContra ATeam on hand, music in our smart phones and Rueda in our hearts! To introduce our impromptu demo, we wanted to explain a little about Rueda de Casino and Max shared the fact that even before arriving in Australia, Noe & Diego had raised some money for the Australian bushfires with their UK students. Talk about the planets aligning! We had so much fun and for a crowd that were expecting a night of comedy, they sure gave us a warm welcome! (the laughing at the end though? we were getting the wind up but were having so much fun we didn't even know it!! haha) In these strange and uncerain times of COVID-19, physical distancing and of course no social dancing, it's nice to reflect on memories like these with a smile. It's also a great time to remember that during this time, there are still people affected by the bushfires who may not even have a home to self-quarantine in. They still need our support. We thought it fitting to donate the proceeds of our last AContra party to Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund and Wildlife Victoria who were the beneficiaries of this event that was wholly organised by a team of volunteers (legends!). It is the least we can do. Thanks to everyone who came on Feb 15 to party with AContra & High Five Salsa and for unwittingly helping us to donate to these worthy charities. AContra Familia- we may not be seeing you on the dance floor but we're thinking of you all and look forward to a time when we can all dance and laugh together again! Stay safe, stay at home.
