20.01.2022 What’s happening at Casino High?

20.01.2022 Today was PJ Mufti Day and our seniors got into the spirit of the day.

20.01.2022 Celebrating our student’s successes. Ex-student - Freya Russell - Life after CHS. After graduating from Casino High School I was accepted into a Bachelor of Wildlife Science at the University of Queensland, this wasn’t the course I wanted to be in so I worked hard for my first semester and got a high enough GPA to transfer in the degree I want which was a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Animal and Veterinary. I worked hard throughout my degree receiving the Deans commendat...ion of academic excellence on multiple occasions. After my final semester I received a summer research scholarship where I researched the effect of stress on the reproduction of the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat. Upon completion I presented my findings at the Australian Mammal Society Conference in Sydney. I then was accepted into an honours research year at the same university where I studied how to measure stress non-invasively in the short-beaked echidna, I finished that research project in June of this year and received first class honours for my research which validated a way to analyse stress hormones in echidna faeces which previously hadn’t been done before. Upon my completion of my honours research I was offered a PhD scholarship position at the Queensland University of Technology where I will use my knowledge and research skills developed throughout my undergraduate and honours degree to develop a biodegradable vaccine/drug delivery device that can be used in Koalas and other wildlife, making the control of diseases easier in both captive and wild populations. It has now been 5 years since I graduated from Casino High School and I am preparing 3 research articles for publication in the journal of General and Comparative Endocrinology and I have just commenced my doctorate which will see me doing research for the next 3 years.

17.01.2022 This week we are featuring news from our English Faculty.

15.01.2022 Principal’s Message The HSC exam period seemed to stretch on forever but it is finally over. I’ve enjoyed many conversations with Year 12 students as they return their books, sign out and say their goodbyes. Their plans for the future are inspiring and although 2020 has been a tough year, the students have been even tougher and shown themselves to be resilient young people. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Our Year 12 School Formal was held at the Casin...o RSM Club where all students received their Portfolios and prizes were awarded to our Major Award Winners. Although attendance was restricted due to COVID, I was extremely proud to witness a very positive and stylish student cohort. Year 10 final exams and assessments are timetabled for the next two weeks prior to submission of our ROSA grades. Students are encouraged to revise and ask for assistance from their teachers to ensure they are prepared. Students should not be absent from school without a legitimate reason. At Casino High School we endeavour to support every student to attend school each day enabling them to achieve to their potential. If your student has a valid reason for not being at school please ensure that you inform the school by providing a note upon their return to school or by phoning the school. This ensures that your students non-attendance can be classified as justified. I am also concerned about the large volume of students arriving late to school. They are missing the vital start of their lesson in the most valuable learning time of the day. The P&C and Year 10 Year Adviser are in the process of organising a Year 10 Dinner Dance at the Golf Club on Tuesday 1 December. Further details regarding this function are within this newsletter. 14.01.2022 Principal’s Message At last I have received some good news for our Year 12 students, their parents/carers and teachers. The Farewell Assembly and Year 12 Formal for NSW Public Schools will be permitted in Term 4 under new COVID-19 regulations. The exact format has not yet been announced but I am hopeful it will allow all who wish to attend this important milestone to be present for our Year 12 students. I recently had the pleasure of reading the Year 12 Industrial Technology ...Timber students’ portfolios prior to them being sent to Sydney for marking. They are not just good but could also be described as brilliant and a credit to the students and their teachers, Mr Chris Clarke and Mr Sam Nicholson. Their Major Works and Portfolios validate what a talented group of students attend Casino High School. Further good news is that the new toilets will be available for use next week and the new gymnasium is in the process of being fitted out. With the warmer weather approaching all students are expected to be in full uniform. If your child is out of uniform please provide them with a note. Blue jeans or tights are not school uniform. If you require assistance to purchase a uniform please contact the school. As the pandemic continues we still need to follow the COVID-19 regulations in the school and community as we all work together to keep ourselves and others safe. Mr Neil Schneider Principal See more
