24.01.2022 Shot over 400 yds today and our newest shooting member, Myra, had her first win on handicap. She is learning the trade and improving all the time. Look out James, Myra is coming to get you! Conditions were pretty good but the left wind was quite tricky, building and dropping off very quickly, as the scores show. Will be back on the range in a fortnight at 500 yds to try and improve. Scores.... F Class: Myra James 51 + 53 = 104 (15) 115 James Thomas 49.3 + 58.1 = 107.4 (11) 118 David Greber 45.1 + 55.1 = 100.2 (2.5) 102.5 Target Rifle: David Chamberlain 44.1 + 49.3 =93.4 (7.5) 100.5 Graeme Hoskins 48.4 + 50-.4 = 98.8 (2) 100 Ken Burrel 33.1 + D/F = 33.1

24.01.2022 Due to the wet weather we have cancelled today’s shoot and Christmas BBQ. The rain is very much needed so we will just have to suck it up. Looking forward to seeing you all next year.

23.01.2022 Things are improving finally!! We can have new shooters on the range again. Social distancing and hand sanitizer will be in force. See you at 300 yds this afternoon.

20.01.2022 Just an update on Covid 19 regulations. For the next 6 weeks at least there is to be: NO coaching NO sharing of equipment NO new shooters on the range So the new shooters that I have been talking to are now NOT permitted to come to the range for a shoot until further notice and this includes existing shooters from other areas in NSW.

19.01.2022 Day 2, 1000 yds and rain as well!

17.01.2022 Just a change of plans for our working bee at the range tomorrow morning. Due to unforeseen circumstances the working bee is now OFF!! Our shoot at 400 yds will go on as planned, but no working bee. So just roll up as usual tomorrow afternoon. See you then.

17.01.2022 Fun afternoon at 300 yds today in great warm weather with an interesting left wind of up to a couple of minutes causing some unexplained elevation shots. Not keeping a close eye on the flags was done at your own peril with a number of shots being where they should not have been. David Greber was best in F Class with 118.3 and Graeme Hoskins returning the only possible of the day in TR to finish with 103.8. Many thanks to Dave S who donated a dozen or so rounds to a couple of... our junior shooters which allowed them to experience his sunburnt Barnard. Scores. F Class: David Greber 55.2 + 63.1 = 118.3 (2.5) 120.5 James Thomas 48 + 54.2 = 102.2 (15) 117 Dave Samuel 53.3 + 51 = 104.3 (5) 109 Myra James 44 + 39 = 83 (15) 98 Ken Larkin 51.2 + D/S = 51.2 Target Rifle: Graeme Hoskins 50.5 + 53.3 = 103.8 (2) 105 David Chamberlain 45.3 + 50.2 = 95.5 (7.5) 102.5 Ken Burrell 35 + 46.2 = 81.2 (15) 96

17.01.2022 An update on the Wangaratta Rifle Club internet shoot that a number of our members were going to compete in. The shoot has been postponed until 13th March 2021 due to the Victorian ranges still being closed because of Covid-19. Will keep you all informed with any updates.

15.01.2022 I just realised that we will be shooting NEXT Saturday, 29th August, weather permitting at 500 yds.

13.01.2022 We decided to pull the pin on the shoot today as it is too windy to put the target up. We don’t want to run the risk of damaging the target. Will see you in a fortnight for 500 yds.

12.01.2022 Sorry that this is a bit late, but just talking to David and as the wind is gusting to 50 km/hour we have called the shoot off for today. We will finish up wrecking the target if we shoot in this wind. See you next fortnight at 300 yds.

12.01.2022 Another year, another bulls eye!! Lovely fine day on the range today and it is looking in great condition thanks to the rain of biblical proportions over Christmas! It is still a bit wet underfoot in places but the grass ( and weeds) are going gangbusters. 6 shooters for the first day back at 300 yds and shooting conditions were quite good with a couple of possibles in TR from Alistair and Graeme and James testing out his new .308 for the first time. We will be on the range... again next Saturday at 9am with some machinery courtesy of Alistair as we need to do some cleaning up and shifting of rubbish and this will be followed by the normal shoot at 400 yds in the afternoon. Scores: F Class: David Greber 58.4 + 64.2 = 122.6 (2.5) 124.5 Oleg Cherednikov 53.1 + 59.2 = 112.3 (6) 118 James Thomas 48 + 56.2 = 104.2 (11) 115 Target Rifle: Graeme Hoskins 50.4 + 52.2 = 102.6 (2) 104 David Chamberlain 42 + 53.3 = 95.5 (7.5) 102.5 Alistair Dyason 46.2 + 55.5 = 101.7 (0.5) 101.5

07.01.2022 To put our sport into context for non-shooters, and to put our 'errant' shots into perspective - at 1000 yards... let's see how far away it really is. Somehow ...it doesn't seem that far away in our minds when we're at the mound. There's no way that was a 4???? "I'm better than that! " Well, that target and more importantly that centre is not exactly that big (5" @X Ring). It is certainly a combination of many things from skill to conditions, from your loads to your rifle and its set-up... add a pinch or 50 of luck by getting down at the 'right' time and you've got a fair chance of walking away content that you've done your best. Welcome to the 'longs'...

07.01.2022 The Duncan Series, Day 1 Brisbane.

05.01.2022 We managed to get a shoot in this afternoon at 500 yds without rain although it was all around us. Fine weather with wind from the right going all the way around to the left later on in the day, but pretty good conditions on the whole. We were pleased to welcome Stephanie who shot quite well for her first hit on the range. Our F Class winner today on handicap was Myra with 122 and Ken was top of TR with 109. Scores:... F Class: Myra James 50.1 + 57 = 107.1 (15) 122 David Greber 58.1 + 59.3 + 117.4 (2.5) 119.5 James Thomas 49 + 55.1 + 104.1 (15) 119 Stephanie Barker 45 + 53.1 = 98.1 (N/A) 98 Target Rifle: Ken Burrell 45.1 + 49.2 + 94.3 (15) 109 Graeme Hoskins 45.2 + 54.5 = 99.7 (2) 101

04.01.2022 A small group at 400 yds yesterday, drizzled most of the afternoon although nothing to dramatic, but an "interesting" wind in the early stages. Scores. F Class:... David Greber 56.1 + 60.1 = 116.2 (2.5) 118.5 Myra James 45 + 56.2 = 101.2 (15) 116 James Thomas 51.1 + 50 = 101.1 (15) 116 T arget Rifle: Graeme Hoskins 48.2 + 54.5 =102.7 (2) 104 Ken Burrell 42 + 45.1 = 87.1 (15) 102 500 yds next week in slightly better conditions ,we hope.

03.01.2022 Back on the range after a couple of weeks off due to weather etc. 600 yds saw a good left wind all afternoon and changing every shot making a good score pretty difficult to achieve. We were the only gluttons for punishment and punishment we got, although Tony did nail a good possible in the 2nd stage. Next shoot, September 26th, is the Wangaratta Rifle Club Internet Competition over 600 yds. It is 2 stages of 15 shot matches. Those of you who wish to participate in it , let ...me know THIS WEEK! As entries need to be completed in a few days time and remember that you will need at least 34 rounds each on the day. Scores: F Class. Tony McKenna 57.2 + 66.1 = 123.3 (3.5) 126.5 David Greber 51 + 63.5 = 114.5 (2.5) 116.5 TR. Graeme Hoskins 44.3 + 51.4 = 95.7 (2) 97 Ken Burrell 33 + 44.1 = 77.1 (15) 92
