25.01.2022 Big news for our members at The Star Sydney, Gold Coast & Treasury (Brisbane) with the announcement that all three venues will cease indoor smoking by the end of 2022. This is a great step by one of Australia’s major casino operators which recognises that workers should not be exposed to chemicals that are known to be toxic while at work. We’ll be working with The Star to implement these changes as soon as possible watch this space!... https://www.couriermail.com.au//e7ca288ab606001fac79650101

25.01.2022 PETITION TIME! Crown has confirmed that they will be paying JobKeeper to eligible staff in this weeks pay run. However their current position is to absorb JobKeeper - so fail to pay it on top of the special shut down pay members won. They also intend to leave many workers out in the cold - any casual less than 12 months service to Crown; international students; migrant workers - failing to show care for our whole casino family.... We think this is unacceptable, and pressure must be put on Crown. Can you sign our petition to the Board, calling on them to do the right thing by staff? Its critical thousands of workers sign to show Crown this is serious. #NoWorkerLeftBehind #UnionPower

"We also understand that this fund is new and its representatives are always open to feedback on how it can be improved to better help its workers! And we also understand how ultimately unique peoples circumstances and their lives during COVID-19 are!" "If you have feedback, need application help or just want to talk to someone about whats going on, please never hesitate to contact your union! 22.01.2022 Well done to casino workers Chris & Josephine for speaking out about insecure work in the time of COVID. The crisis is not over. Go to www.jobkeeperforall.com.au to tell Scott Morrison how his governments drastic cuts to JobKeeper & JobSeeker will impact you.

21.01.2022 The Federal Government has announced a number of changes to JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments that will negatively impact many members. Please read these fact sheets to find out more.

21.01.2022 UNION WIN: THE STAR CASINO to start paying JobKeeper wage subsidy to eligible workers on 24th April. Over the last week thousands of Casino workers have signed our petition to get the major casinos to start paying the JobKeeper wage subsidy. Last night The Star finally advised that they will start paying the subsidy to eligible workers from Friday 24th April. Union members have also won the ability to access accrued annual leave entitlements on top of the weekly $750 Jo...bKeeper payment (as long as they have at least 2 weeks annual leave left in the bank - this is a legal requirement). In order to get paid, all eligible staff are required to complete an online nomination form, ideally by 22nd April. This will be sent to your email by the The Star soon, so make sure your details are up to date. Please let us know if you have any issues completing the form - your union is happy to help! While we welcome this announcement, there are still details that require further clarification. Keep your eyes on this page for the latest updates.

20.01.2022 Well done to Casino delegates Anuj & Joel for taking action on the Gold Coast today! Along with other United Workers Union members they queued outside Centrelink in response to the Federal Governments plans to wind back JobKeeper & JobSeeker today, leaving even more workers behind. Tell Scott Morrison the crisis isnt over for workers - we need to extend and expand JobKeeper to ALL: jobkeeperforall.com.au

20.01.2022 Some good news! Crown Melbourne has confirmed they will not absorb the Manager & Surveillance EAs backpay in JobKeeper. Although they had a legal opportunity to absorb this backpay into JobKeeper, union pressure has successfully ensured workers covered by the Manager & Surveillance EA will receive their backpay. We know that when we stand together we win. Sign Jesss letter to the board calling on Crown to support their loyal staff who have been impacted by COVID-19.... https://www.megaphone.org.au//support-for-crown-employees-

19.01.2022 THE STAR SOS UPDATE! The Stars financial support scheme has now wrapped up, with a total of $2.8 million provided to casino workers struggling as a result of the COVID crisis. This would not have happened without the hard work of union members pushing The Star to implement this package. ... The crisis is not over. We need other employers to step up and help their workers in need, and the government to do more to keep people out of poverty. Share your story here: www.jobkeeperforall.com.au/

18.01.2022 #NOWORKERLEFTBEHIND Well done to casino workers across the country who recorded a message of solidarity for their colleagues who are currently excluded from the unfair JobKeeper subsidy. We need to take action to pressure Josh Frydenberg to include all casual and migrant workers in JobKeeper.... Tune in to this weeks Hospo Online Picket on Friday to get involved!

17.01.2022 We dont know what the future holds. But as we see parts of the country experiencing outbreaks and second waves, we know the crisis isnt over yet. We have already seen a patron who visited The Star Sydney test positive for COVID. Yet the Morrison Government is set to scrap JobKeeper and slash JobSeeker to to $40 per day, abandoning tens of thousands of workers.... WE NEED EVERY CASINO MEMBER to add their voice and demand a JOBKEEPER FOR ALL. Sign the petition to stand with workers to protect our income and secure our jobs: uwu.org.au/standwithhospo

16.01.2022 "These are the kinds of initiatives we need from big employers right now, as all employers should be focusing on looking after their employees, both emotionally and financially, by providing ongoing support for them during this crisis. Well done to the United Workers Union members at Crown Perth & Melbourne for making this happen! #NoWorkerLeftBehind

16.01.2022 UNION WIN @ THE STAR TREASURY! Casino Union members recently proposed a change to the HSR structure in Table Games so that there would be adequate HSR coverage across both day and night shifts (previously there was only one HSR on swing shift for the whole department). The Star questioned the need for 2 HSRs, so it was put to a vote. We're thrilled to announce that it was a unanimous 100% vote for your union's proposal to have HSRs on both day and night shifts.... Congratulations to Casino Union members at The Star Treasury on this important win for health & safety. Keep your eyes peeled for details on nominating & electing your new HSR.

16.01.2022 In times like these, its important to celebrate people who are looking out for others. Pete is a surveillance operator at Crown Melbourne. During the casino closure there is a drastically reduced need for surveillance. This means there is less work than there are workers. But Pete (along with his colleague Zoe) have designed and organised a roster to share the available work across their department. This means full-time workers agreeing to a 65% reduction in their hours and ...wages, in order to keep their colleagues afloat during this period. Pete has this message for anyone who is in a similar position: "please be kind to each other and support your fellow colleagues through these trying times. If we cannot, then we are no better than COVID-19 itself." #SolidarityForever #UnionPower

11.01.2022 UNION WIN! Last year UWU member Bryan Kidman from Canberra Casino voiced the concerns of his colleagues in the media. Soon after, the casino tried to discipline Bryan simply for speaking publicly about issues at his workplace. But with the help of his union Bryan fought back, and made a discrimination complaint alleging he was treated differently due to being a union member and participating in industrial activity.... 03.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE ON JOBKEEPER CHANGES JobKeeper as we know it ends this week. From next week, many casino workers will no longer receive JobKeeper payments, and those that do will receive less. How this impacts you will depend on where you work, whether or not you're working at the moment and how much, whether you're receiving JobSeeker or other Centrelink payments and when your next pay cycle is.... We know members at the following properties will no longer receive JobKeeper payments: The Star Treasury; The Star Gold Coast; Crown Perth; Mindil Beach; Country Club and Wrest Point. It is still unclear if the Star Sydney and SkyCity Adelaide will remain eligible for JobKeeper. Crown Melbourne members will continue to receive JobKeeper (if you are eligible) however these payments will be significantly reduced. The reduction will be even greater for those who have been assessed as working less than 20hrs a week in February of this year - if you fall into this category and think that is not correct please let us know so we can try and challenge this assessment. If your JobKeeper payment is being reduced, or if you're no longer receiving it but not working much or at all at the moment, you should check your eligibility for JobSeeker as soon as you can, if you have not already done so. If you are eligible for the much lesser JobSeeker payment you can earn a small amount each fortnight and still receive the payment or a portion of it. As always, if you need assistance navigating Centrelink please let your Union know. We have helped hundreds of members with these processes so far and will continue to do so. UWU members from The Star Sydney and The Star Treasury are meeting online to discuss how this impacts them this Friday. https://uwu.org.au/sydney-mm https://uwu.org.au/treasury-mm
