24.01.2022 Clients don't call me unless they have a problem that needs solving. Its been my job for almost 25 years. It is always an interesting exercise having to sort out a tricky or complicated issue and I have learned a number of short cuts to enable me to get to the nub of most problems quickly. I can quickly tell when a file is unhealthy and what needs to be done to rectify the situation. It is with this in mind that I wrote my training book - Keeping a Healthy MYOB File. It covers the key things you need to know about your accounts to ensure they are performing as they should. 24.01.2022 I solve problems for a living. Some problems are unique but the majority are ones I have seen many times before. After 22 years in this business having this in-depth knowledge helps to improve my efficiency. I could write a book about the top 10 questions I get asked - and I have - many books in fact - for the novice, the advanced user, the accountant and the teacher. But I try not to waste time on theory. 16.01.2022 If you've ever used Google to search for something you will appreciate the frustration many people have with this behemoth of a search engine. Google prides itself on changing its search algorithms as often as possible to thwart businesses that spend their time trying to game the system. Well Google - your failing!!! Badly!! The results show there is something very wrong. An example: search for MYOB training in Ormeau - top billing goes to global business aggregators who list... every suburb in Australia and carry on about being "local". Next in the Google priority list comes local business aggregators who list every organisation in Ormeau that MAY have training as one of their sub categories (including those that have gone out of business years ago and those that training people in Tiddly Winks. Next in line are master organisations such as MYOB who list all of their consultants within 50kms of Ormeau (which does include my business but its so far down the list people turn off). Sooooo frustrating when clients point this out. Oh well let's face it - the best business is referral business after all. PS: and don't get me started on Google autocorrecting!!! Lol. See more

14.01.2022 The push to place accounting information online or into "the cloud" started in earnest a couple of years ago. Many businesses have been reluctant to do this for fear of losing client data or having financial information hacked or stolen yet they happily do all their banking online. Whilst there is always some risk when relying on remote data storage facilities there are also some important upsides - you can access your data from anywhere (where you have internet access) and y...our data is always backed up. I personally took some time to convert to "online" with my own business it soon became apparent that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. There has been more than one occasion in the past where I have had to deal with data being lost in a hard disk crash (with little of no backups) and frustrating problems to do with updating the software (and resulting loss of data during a transfer). With the MYOB Essentials online package not only is the software always up to date but you can use the software wherever and whenever you have access to internet - at home, at your second office, internationally, on the road and dare I say it, even on holidays. 10.01.2022 Two of my most important maxims in business that I have learned over 25 years as an MYOB Certified Consultant: Referrals are by far the best type of new business one can get. 80% of your business originates from 20% of your customers. 02.01.2022 I got a real sense of satisfaction the other day when a client I have not heard from for ages contacted me to let me know her and her husband were going well in their business venture. They were passing through and remembered me. Fond memories from me too. They were great clients. Evidently the training books I sold them when they left to go interstate served them well. "We likened your manuals to my mum's good old recipe books - when we needed to know how to do something we had not tried before we simply consulted the expert (your books)." Nice. Makes it all worthwhile.
