25.01.2022 Had an interesting chat over a pint with a councillor this arvo. Talking about big ideas for the future in terms of Bunbury and all, as there's a big brain storming session happening in council in the next few weeks. One thing among many that we discussed was the idea that Bunbury should take the lead in demanding high environmental sustainability with new houses, mandatory solar panels and grey water, sustainable materials being used, stuff like that. We have mandatory smoke... alarms, so why not take it a fair bit further, right? Her response was that she liked it, but "developers will not hesitate to withdraw their business if they don't like it". And honestly, doesn't that just sum up the problem of capitalism, of the """free market""""..., where things are immediately jettisoned if it cuts into the bottom line of business, no matter how beneficial they are to humanity. And we just accept it? We go "ok, oh well, seemed like a good idea at the time" and that's the extent of our protest. A much more sane proposal would be that developers just flat out shouldn't be in control of land in Bunbury; that the idea that land is a for profit thing to be manipulated is absolutely nuts, and that people motivated solely by greed and share prices shouldn't have too much of a say in housing regulations (or anything really!). I was going to say "a more radical proposal" but personally I don't think it's a terribly radical idea, if anything it's basic common sense. Again, it's just bizarre that we accept that these big corps who contribute nothing to humanity can just.. do what they want, and that's that and that it's ok. I guess the end to my little rant here is that next time you get sucked into a conversation where it kinda ends on a "well yknow, they're rich/it's a huge corporation so they get away with it and that's that" sorta note, maybe ask yourself why you're thinking that's acceptable, who told you to think like that, and how to get out of it. Because at the end of the day it's pretty shithouse and the fact that we continue to tolerate it is absolutely mind boggling.
25.01.2022 I’m pretty excited. There’s not even that many sour boomers in the comments, which is a fresh change
19.01.2022 Pretty neat idea! Get onto it. The more trees, the better.
16.01.2022 The firey charity blitz.. I get it. People want to give, people want to fundraise for the brave and suffering fellas over east. Absolutely. But just a little reminder that a billionaire could give 90% of their stuff, sell some shares, a few houses, whatever... and still have *at least* $100 million left over for themselves after that. $900 million. One person could give that, the same amount as a million very generous working people! It would take a bit of work and all that b...ecause it's not all liquid assets. Sure. Of course, they could hire someone to do it and still sit in their yacht with their 100 mill. But they don't.
14.01.2022 "How would you sum up your thoughts on politics in Bunbury, Caspian?" Me:
09.01.2022 Bit of a boring post: I know a lotta aspiring-to-be-councillors just disappear between elections then rock up suddenly expecting everyone to vote for them. I'm trying not to do that, and I wasn't sure whether to post this or not but I guess you need to BUILD YOUR BRAND or whatever. So here's a short list of my "trying to practice what I preach" kinda stuff that I've been up to: - Quit mining/mineral processing. I'm now a support worker for the intellectually disabled.... - Ripped up two thirds of my grass and am in the (long, arduous) process of getting a native garden going - Once a month I'm volunteering for secondbite, getting bread from coles and distributing it around to people in need. - Have stopped driving my car when I'm doing local stuff- super fun, highly recommend getting on your bike full time - The tool shed idea has gone nowhere, mainly due to the fact that you need a rather large shed for it and I have zero dollars to pay for it. - Did a community christmas BBQ, which was fun but a bit of a failure due to it being a zillion degrees and far less people than expected showing up - Finally got my deadlift back to 200 kilos All pretty minor things, just trying not to be a complete hypocrite, yknow? Life's returning to normal now that the second kid is getting a bit older/getting better at sleeping so I hope to be able to add to the above list over the next few months.
08.01.2022 I don't have anything particularly profound to say about Covid that hasn't already been said a few billion times, but this is a neat idea. Times like this the only thing the working class has is each other. Donating blood is a fantastic example of mutual aid (y)
07.01.2022 Came home today to find this... pretty ominous I'm sure we'd all agree. It's the Carey Park version of the bat signal!
07.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/events/237651127276077/ Hey Carey Park party people, there'll be a community BBQ on the 5th of April. Cheers to City of Bunbury for handing out grants. Free meat and bread for everyone! Come along, and don't hesitate to share this around! This BBQ is hopefully the start of that social activation thingo I rambled about in my crime video- basically, people in the suburb getting to know each other, looking out for each other, and supporting each other. Hope to see you all there my dudes. Should be fun, and hopefully won't be a billion degrees like the christmas BBQ.
06.01.2022 I know I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep but still: If elected next time round, I promise not to go to Hawaii if Bunbury is getting burnt to the ground
03.01.2022 Hello all, I've started doing the bread run with coles once in a while, ie grabbing the leftover bread from the previous day from various supermarkets and redistributing it so it doesn't go to landfill and all that. It's through SecondBite. Today will be my first day by myself- - and I don't really have the networks that a lot of the people who've been doing it for ages do, so if you're part of a church group, a kindergarten, you work with the homeless, you're part of a char...ity, whatever, (or if you just want some bread) then hit us up on this page or my personal facebook because I'll have a pretty huge amount of sweet, sweet carbs to offload. I'm not in the least bit bothered by if you're suitably in need or any of that bullshit, so don't hesitate to hit me up, even if it's just catering for a Christmas function you have on. Better than it going to landfill.
03.01.2022 "Businesses that pocket billions when times are good invariably cry poor when the going gets tough, begging for public bailouts on the pretext of saving jobs. " Keep your eyes open fellas, COVID's gonna have some ugly side effects long after the disease has gone.
