24.01.2022 Low testosterone levels often manifest as irritability, decreased motivation, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. Hormones are extremely complex and work together in various tissues of the body to maintain balance. Therefore, an imbalance in one hormone often causes an imbalance in another hormone or endocrine system. If you are struggling with low energy, fatigue, and muscle loss you may need to see a practitioner for hormone testing. Get in touch today to make an appointment to find out how we can help you.

17.01.2022 So how do we go about healing the gut-brain axis? Do we focus on mental health or do we heal the gut? We do both! ... The gut has its own nervous system, called the enteric nervous system (ENS). Described as a second brain, the ENS normally communicates through the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) via the vagus nerve. This is also called the 'rest and digest' nervous system as it is activated during times of rest and stimulates digestion. On the other hand, our 'fight or flight' digestive system, known as the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), is involved in the stress response and can disrupt healthy digestion. Have you ever had a 'nervous tummy', where feeling anxious can send you rushing to the bathroom or give you a terrible tummy ache? The messaging runs in the other direction as well. In our gut we host many different bacteria that call our digestive system home, they are responsible for producing and releasing neurotransmitters that cause changes in the brain, impacting mood and cognition. The complex relationship between gut and mind is an emerging area of healthcare, there is still so much we're yet to learn. What is clear is that for a holistic approach in treating the gut-brain axis, we need to come at it from multiple angles. Enhance digestion Naturally manage indigestion, IBS and inflammation Nurture happy, healthy gut bacteria Lift Mood Your wellbeing is intricately connected to health of your gut. At Sustainable Health and Wellness Clinic we use naturopathic approaches combined with functional testing to identify and address the underlying drivers and the best possible way to resolve them. Now is the time to end your tummy and mood troubles, regain your energy and get back to living that life you love. Sounds great, doesn't it? Let's get started and get your gut and mood right now. 15.01.2022 Mind-body Connection - While eating a healthy diet is still important, our health is far more dependent on our state of mental and emotional well-being. In a recent study, 26 adults (without prior experience) were taught a number of clinically-backed relaxation techniques including mindfulness, meditation and mantra. Researchers were able to identify and measure any changes that occurred in the participants’ DNA during and after their practice. The observed changes were foun...d to be clearly indicative of a majorly reduced stress response and activation of telomere maintenance genes, meaning that the mantra, meditation and mindfulness practices actually caused observable, measurable changes in the body that ultimately led to alteration and repair of DNA. In essence, changes in the mental state of the participants produced very real and measurable changes in their physical bodies, all the way down to the genetic level. See more
14.01.2022 How does your gut health impact your mood and nervous system? You’ve probably experienced the impact of nerves on your digestion; that sensation in the pit of your stomach that feels like butterflies that may also result in a quick dash to the toilet. Where does a gut feeling come from?
