17.01.2022 Shields for Living, Tools for Life on Lajamanu Country. Jerry Jangala, the traditional owner (runs the church as well), and his son Stephen, took about 15 youth from Wanta AC (coordinated by Simon) and CASSE to show how to make tools and spoke about the different tjilirra. The youth were new to this knowledge and somewhat shy. They did not know the names for the tools or how to make them. Jerry said the police confiscated the tools-as weapons a few years ago-post a big fight. He told the youth when they cut the tree they say sorry. The youth were very interested in the no 7. Jerry and the youth talked about the tools as potential gifts for special relatives. Very few elders live here and a large population of youth.

11.01.2022 Farewell to a great leader Today we honour Kwemenje Kantawara- a great leader of her people. Nik and Robert are able to farewell her this morning in Alice Springs and unfortunately Pamela is in lockdown in Victoria. Pamela remembers Kwemenje as a young (pretty) girl when she helped her on the Two Way Health Business research and they took a trip or two out to Wallace Rockhole. Kwemnje told Pamela that the questionnaires wouldn’t work and that people would not fill them out.... She was right! Then CASSE returned to central Australia and partnered with Congress when Kwemenje was Chair and there was a great partnership for a few years. Pamela remembers her as a great leader and advocate for her people. She had a great sense of humour too and she was also a great psychologist! Farewell

01.01.2022 Nik and Robert (in picture) arrived in Lajamanu late as the trip took 2.5 days going thru Katherine due to advice from the police on roads. They arrived very hot and dusty and tired... as the air con in Robert’s troopy broke down :( They are preparing to work with youth. In CASSE's Shields for Living Tools for Life program, Elders pass on their cultural knowledge to young people in process and in outcome.

01.01.2022 Alternatives to prison are essential. Great to see Selena Uibo: Member for Arnhem. CASSE is about Creating A Safe Supportive Environment and advocating for youth on country not in custody.
