24.01.2022 Hi everyone. It’s been quite a while since I posted on this Facebook page. I apologise for that. I knew that starting a new business was going to be hard, but I think I still underestimated the time it would take up! Since the beginning of the year all of us have had to adapt and evolve faster than we ever could have thought possible because of the weather, normal life stuff and this wretched COVID 19 virus. I hope you are all going okay, if not, please find a professio...nal to give you some tools to learn to cope with our new normal - we did and it helps. A lot. Over the next while I will be posting some wonderfully positive Good News Stories of people I have been honoured to work with and to tell you about the exciting ILC funded project that we are about to launch. It’s called ‘JourneyFit - fit for the journey of life’. So stay tuned! And above all stay safe (Picture of a flooded road in western NSW - I think it depicts very nicely the uncertain circumstances we are presently living in. We were meeting up with our daughter pre Covid lockdown. Who knew the roads would flood?!)
24.01.2022 www.facebook.com/hccexpos A Virtual post school expo will be happening in August. Have a look at the flyer here and see if it might interest you. The bit I found interesting is they are not limiting it to only intellectual or physical disability. Have a read and call them to ask if you or your family or friend might be able to access the support here.
24.01.2022 Welcome to my new Facebook page. What a great day to begin - International Day of People with Disability - I believe in a world where everyone can be equal and have the same opportunities as everyone else no matter their perceived ability. Hugs to you all on IDPWD Day.

14.01.2022 For positive change to happen it is totally necessary to share and talk about this. The NDIS is a GREAT ideal and its worth fighting for. I truly believe that. However, we cant ignore the trauma that it is also causing is terribly difficult for those that its affecting and my heart bleeds for you. Stay strong, we will get there - we simply have to.
14.01.2022 I have had the most amazing day today in Sydney. The Minding our Business crew are an awesome group of people and if you are in St Marys next weekend, 14th December, you should drop by for a coffee (which is incredibly good but the way) and to check out their market. They believe that if you find it hard to get a job then the next option is to think about making a job to suit your skills. Make no mistake, its a harder road to tread, but its also a very rewarding one. Well done guys, you are all incredibly impressive business people.
09.01.2022 Finding and keeping good support is a very tricky business indeed. Its a completely different relationship because there is an extra degree of intimacy that mostly doesnt exist in any other work relationship. And yes, they absolutely can and do edge over into friendship. I look back and shudder to only a few years ago when it was normal for support agencies to have harsh (& usually policy documented) demarcations between support workers & the person being supported around friendship. To be honest it probably still exists in some. Our family never adhered to this line of thinking, it just never made sense - and we have wonderful people in our lives because of it.
09.01.2022 What makes a house a home? Ive been pondering this question off and on all weekend after two particularly wonderful chats with a local Occupational Therapist and a person I am working with. Many of us wont have to think too deeply and I bet there will a lot of feeling words peppered through it that draws a picture of a secure, safe, comfortable place. But what if we dont have those memories to draw from, how much harder is it to create that homey environment we crave?... The NDIS can help - It can support people with disability who want to move out of home or from where they presently are so they can create that home of their own. But its hard, and a bit scary if you dont know where to start. Let us help you think it through and together we can start creating the life that you have dreamed of.
06.01.2022 I do hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that 2020 is going to be a wonderful year. I have really high hopes for this year - most specifically that I can grow a helpful business for the people I work for so you can get the most out of your plans & live the life that you want. This post from Sam Payor from The Growing Space is incredible. Thank you Sam for putting together this list of knowledge gleaned from NDIS participants and their families. What an excellent resource.
03.01.2022 The Dubbo Stampede is going to go ahead at the end of this month even in spite of COVID! We cant do the normal thousand people running race , but we have worked out how to run it anyway. The Virtual Stampede: Socially Distant, Virtually Together. Have a listen to the radio interview we did with Zoo FM for the details of how to register. Everyone can do this very inclusive race from the 5km races, including the Wallaby Wheel right up to the 42km Marathon.
03.01.2022 Mel talks about the Social Model of Disability. It is a thought-provoking and helpful video to make us think about how we think about disability. Especially good on #IDPWD day.
03.01.2022 This is the crew that I have been lucky enough to work with over the past month or two. Minding our Business are a group of likeminded people who have formed a team to support each other in business. Today they have created their own opportunity: a mini market in St Marys outside Rathas Cafe. Looks fantastic!
03.01.2022 We are really excited, and very grateful, at how much interest you've all shown in our JourneyFit project. Thank you!! I want to start introducing you to our Partners and the very first one is the 'we' that I talk about. Mark Gardner from Vanguard Business Services is my Journeyfit Partner and my partner in life too, and without him we wouldn't have half the project that we do. He has had a great deal of experience in running all sorts of projects and is also an incredible in...novator. For example, if you have looked at our website you will find the Micro enterprise project. This was his creation and passion and it has achieved incredible things for incredible people over the last few years. Mark is the behind the scenes support that everyone who ever had a dream to do something different to the norm needs. He is the capital K in my top Ability West Value: Kind.

01.01.2022 Last month I said that we have a new project here at Ability West that we have been working on and I promised Id share it with you when it was ready to launch. Welcome to JourneyFit Fit for the journey of life. We are ready to launch. The idea was created about 2 years ago at our kitchen table over a red wine (or two). It combines our passion for full inclusion, fitness and activity, our love for the Dubbo community and the west, and my favourite ingredient, kindness.... The idea is that people with disability are underrepresented in sporting, exercise, and fitness settings in our communities, they are also likely to be less healthy and more prone to weight and mental health issues. We wanted to change this by helping people who might be too nervous to involve themselves in local mainstream healthy activities on their own. We will introduce you to groups, like-minded people, sports, activities, exercise studios (the list could go on) and walk beside you while you find and test out the one that suits you best. There will also a dollop of information and education around healthy eating and self care if you would like it too. Watch this space for more information on JourneyFit as we introduce to our partner organisations & people. And if you are interested and want to know more right now contact me via this Facebook page or on our website. We are grateful to the NDIS for believing in us and funding it for 3 whole years!
01.01.2022 The word is really out there about how difficult it is for farmers and the rest of us living in our drought stricken environment. Its really important right now with the harsh things that are going on in Australia (& the climate is only one of them) that we practice being kind to random strangers. This has really touched me. What a kind and premeditated act this person has done for us.
