10.01.2022 Another project completed: This time for PRP Diagnostic Imaging at Norwest Private Hospital in Sydney. The project called for the relocation of diagnostic rooms to allow for the installation of a second MRI scanner - a new Siemens Magnetom Vida 3T MRI scanner. This included the construction of new diagnostic rooms, lead shielding and managing equipment relocations.... This was an interesting project because the new MRI scanner weighs approximately 7 tonnes. The challenge when installing a machine of this weight is that in order to move it into position it required a crane lift, temporarily propping underneath the entire installation pathway with 23 props, the installation of two steel beams to strengthen the concrete slab area where the MRI gantry was being installed, remove an existing concrete block wall 2.4 m wide x 2.4 m high to move the machine into the room and then re-build the wall! This project is a credit to our team. Of particular note is that this project occurred while keeping the practice operational as it is an essential service within Norwest Private Hospital. Thanks to everyone involved. This time, the Nuclear Medicine Department at Nepean Hospital for @NewSouthWalesHealth have engaged us to fitout one of their CT rooms for a new GEHealthcare SPECT/CT machine. . This machine weighs approximately 5 tonnes and the floor needed strengthening from underneath. Cue 2 x 254 universal columns. ... . Thank goodness our team had their Weet-Bix for dinner because they had to manually lift and manoeuvre both of them into place at night; which was not easy to say the least. . We are also fitting out the room with new finishes: flooring, wall paint, ceiling tiles, additional lead lining in the walls and a new 1.6 m wide 110 kg (!) lead-lined sliding door. Plus we had to re-configure a wall between the machine room and the control room to allow for the new machine to fit. .
