25.01.2022 It is a little cold here this morning (yep I’m a sook) so we are going to start the morning with an invitation to explore the alphabet.

25.01.2022 Celebrating the end of the "free childcare" rubbish that has cost me thousands over the last few months.....from Monday I regain control of my business and will start being paid my normal income again, instead of trying to survive on 30% of that!!! My day care families have all been beyond amazing and so supportive during this nightmare. I am so thankful to have had them through this with me and doing all they can to let me know that I am loved and valued. Without their suppo...rt I would have broken. To my fellow educators, you are AMAZING!!! No other industry was asked to work at full capacity with less than half pay, with no PPE, putting yourself and your family at risk. You did so with a smile on your face, open arms to love and comfort children and helped ease the worries and concerns of the families in your care. You did so because you are professional and dedicated and did not faulter under the heavy burden and feeling of worthlessness thanks to the so called "support" our government offered in this time of crisis. WE SURVIVED!!!!

24.01.2022 What a wonderful adventure we had today driving out to the strawberry fields and picking our own strawberries. So much learning as we looked for ripe ones, we had to be gentle as we pulled them off and placed them in our punnets before taking them to get weighed. So important for children to understand the importance of farms and our farming communities.

24.01.2022 15% off sale, don't miss out!

20.01.2022 We don’t spend our precious time doing worksheets - we are too busy playing! Today we explored shapes, size, colours, counting and so many pre math skills as we enjoyed our shape sorters. Visual discrimination and hand eye co ordination needed to be used as the children tried to fit the pieces where they belonged. Learning through play is the best way to learn.

19.01.2022 Our little family here at Cassowary Kids is unexpectedly looking for a new friend. It is a two day a week spot and suits a 3 - 5 year old. We are a very friendly bunch who get out and about in the community and love to do excursions, so let me know if you are interested by sending us a message.

19.01.2022 We went Gruffalo hunting today! He is a very tricky fellow and as much as we called for him to come and play he was nowhere to be seen. We did think we could hear him snoring over the back fence and decided he must be tucked up hibernating because of the cold weather.

19.01.2022 It has been such a challenging year for educators and families alike. The passion of educators is unwavering and we always put the children and our profession at the forefront of our decisions. I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by wonderful families, children and fellow educators who inspire me constantly. To receive this nomination is an honour.

18.01.2022 We had a wonderful visit from the tooth fairy today learning about the importance of keeping our teeth healthy. We were also joined by some other FDC friends which made for a fantastic day.

18.01.2022 We headed off this morning for a bike riding date with friends but as we loaded up the car we discovered the spider webs on the grass covered in the morning dew. What a great opportunity it provided us to look at the amazing patterns the spiders had created. We also took the opportunity to discuss that as small as spiders are they can be dangerous to us and we must never pick them up if we see them in the wild.

17.01.2022 We have spent a lot of time lately talking about Crocodiles and how important it is to be safe when we are near their environment. We talked about how strong and powerful their bodies are and that they are meat eaters not herbivores. So a trip to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures was a logical excursion. What an amazing time we all had and the children have had so many questions for us to investigate from our time there.

16.01.2022 We used so many skills today as we created our masterpieces! Working out how to squeeze the colour into the pipette and then transfer it to release on the paper took some experimenting but we all got there. We discovered the colours spread as they landed on the paper and created all sorts of shapes and patterns. Our vocabulary also expanded as we discovered the names of our colours were magenta, scarlet and turquoise.

16.01.2022 This little group of friends is enjoying the freedom our environment provides. Off to explore amongst the trees , who knows what adventure awaits them, they are limited only to their imagination. Time for uninterrupted play in an environment that provides challenges and support at the same is crucial for children’s development. Children are very capable and it is important that we as adults provide opportunities for them to extend themselves as often as they desire.

15.01.2022 We want to help you get ready for Christmas as it will be upon us before we know it! To help you tuck away some goodies we have taken 20% off anything dinosa...ur in our range. 14.01.2022 We had a wonderful time exploring science today with cornflour goop and the only way to clean up was in a pool full of bubbles. What a wonderful day this group of friends had.

14.01.2022 The children chose some yummy corn from Tablelands To Tabletop last week and today we prepared it so we could eat it. We needed to use lots of muscle groups from fingers, wrists and shoulders to pull the husk off to expose the juicy kernels beneath. Once we had steamed it we couldn’t wait to taste it. It was delicious .

13.01.2022 Is there anything more fun than scarves on a windy day? We had so much fun dancing, twirling and throwing our scarves in the air. The wind would catch them and make us giggle as we tried to capture them. Our spatial awareness was certainly put to the test as we had to avoid each other and the natural obstacles in our environment.

12.01.2022 Living in the rainforest means we get everything from echidnas, cassowaries, pythons , goannas and many other animals visit us here on Djabugay land. We do our best to provide an environment that is safe for all - animals and people. My heart leapt as Mr C told me Mr N had caught a hurt python. I soon discovered it was our friendly rubber snake but it led to a wonderful opportunity to discuss snake safety and who can help injured wildlife.

12.01.2022 ‘In the end we will only conserve what we love. We will love only what we understand. This quote by Baba Dioun explains beautifully why we are incorporating nature walks into our program despite spending our days in a rainforest environment. The children love exploring what nature offers; as we go on our walks, they begin to build a love for nature and hopefully will become protectors of it.

11.01.2022 We extended on our visit to the strawberry fields by inviting Ms Bec and our FDC friends over to make strawberry muffins and milkshakes. Everyone was so patient as they waited for their turn to mix, stir and measure. We explored science concepts as our ingredients turned from liquid to batter to form muffins. Chopping the strawberries gave us the chance to use our fine motor skills and ohhhhh our milkshakes were sooooo yummy.

11.01.2022 What do you do when you find a packet of balloons , you turn them into pigs and release them in the yard. What fun we had in th boggy yard working on spatial awareness and team work as we caught the pigs. The wind with some help from me meant the pigs kept escaping. There was so much laughter and yes we all got mud everywhere.

10.01.2022 What a wonderful morning of exploration as we used our senses to create potions . Fresh herbs, flower petals, essences, spices and oil provided the perfect ingredients to create with. Noticing that oil and water don’t mix and that the fresh herbs floated, that the colour sat on top of the bubbles allowed so much learning to take place.

10.01.2022 Today one of the children wanted to make a present for their mum so after some investigation in the resource cupboard we decided to do some threading using some foam pieces. The children had to concentrate as they poked the ribbon through the foam and after a couple of pieces they had the hang of it. Beautiful gifts were created and the children got lots of practice with bilateral co coordination and fine motor skills.

08.01.2022 Summer has snuck in which means we cool off before lunch with some serious water play. So much laughter and happiness as we had bubbles, pools and the sprinkler, and the plants got a water.

05.01.2022 So much learning going on today with the stacker board. The hand eye co ordination involved in placing the pieces together and the problem solving of how to stop the board tipping. The children revisited this activity several time’s today as they became more proficient at it the towers got taller and taller.

04.01.2022 One of the best educators I know has some vacancies coming up next year. They won't last so if you are interested get in quick for an interview.

04.01.2022 We are so lucky to have a new educator in Kuranda

02.01.2022 Once a fortnight we visit Tablelands To Tabletop so the children can select our fruit and vegetables for the week. The children notice and chat about how unique the different fruits and veg are as they pile our box up. We check the scales to make sure the arrow hasn’t gone past the 7kg mark and then one of the children pays. It is such a wonderful learning excursion that all the kids love. We love that it is all local goods and the children get to be so hands on.

02.01.2022 A big congratulations and thank you to all the early childhood educators out there - what a year it has been so far for us all but today is the day when we get to say 'WE ROCK'. Happy Early Childhood Educators Day - enjoy <3
