20.01.2022 Long live local news.

20.01.2022 So it begins. Tenants are being put on notice rents will start going up from tomorrow, including ‘all outstanding rent increases that were deferred’ due to COVID. With the world in the grip of a deadly pandemic, 50 000 Tasmanians either jobless or needing more hours to get by, and the rental market at boiling point, the Gutwein Government is giving people who own a second or third property land tax relief, while tenants get rent hikes. We need a process to cap unjustifiable rent increases, like the ACT.

20.01.2022 Thousands of people from across lutruwita/Tasmania marked Invasion Day on Parliament Lawns today. It was deeply moving to see so many standing up for truth, Treaty and justice for First Nations people. Far from celebrating today, we mourned the loss of generations, the theft of children and ongoing dispossession of Aboriginal people.... Each year the numbers at Invasion Day events around the country grow, as Australia Day celebrations get smaller. It’s time for change. We need a national day that unites rather than divides us as Australians. A day that heals and does no harm to First Nations people. Changing the date is one important step, but there are many more if we are to heal some of the damage and the wounds in our national psyche created by centuries of denying the truth. The country we call home always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

19.01.2022 The Greens have a plan to build back greener and fairer from COVID, and make sure no-one is left behind. We need your help this election to share our positive plan with lutruwita/Tasmania! If you can have a poster at your house, or want to help us with doorknocking, leafletting, or making calls, please sign up through this link: ... https://greens.org.au/tas/volunteer

16.01.2022 And thanks to you, Your Choice TAS, for all the incredible work you have done to help make this state a more compassionate place

14.01.2022 Social worker and climate champion Jack Davenport for Bass on the campaign trail. Jack is a deeply good man, and he would make a great MP. Like his page, and get in touch if you can help out on his campaign: https://greens.org.au/tas/volunteer

11.01.2022 Documents released to the Greens under Right to Information laws paint a disturbing picture for vulnerable Tasmanian children. They detail hundreds of children living in homes that haven't been subject to household assessment; child safety cases taking on average more than a month to be allocated to a child safety officer; and children as young as 10 being allowed to decide to stay in potentially risky situations, without the support of Child Safety Services. And the Depart...ment freely admits widespread instances of important data being recorded inconsistently and incorrectly around the state. The Premier needs to take a long, hard look at what is happening in child safety, and provide the system with the funding it urgently needs.

10.01.2022 Day 1 of the Trump administration v. Day 1448. My hurts for the American people.

08.01.2022 Great work Bob Brown Foundation! This agreement is temporary, but it's nonetheless a crucial reprieve for the critically endangered swift parrot, which is currently in its breeding season. We can only hope the Federal Court case will deliver the world's fastest parrot a more permanent lifeline - an end to native forest logging in lutruwita/Tasmania. ... It's the only chance this unique species has of long term survival.

07.01.2022 Kudelka today ....

04.01.2022 Today we released our comprehensive plan for a safe climate! Our plan recognises that climate action is not only urgent, but also an amazing opportunity to create new jobs, and build a fairer society. We’ll fund a large scale solar roll out and energy efficient homes, invest in new possibilities for industry, support farmers to reduce their emissions, accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, and protect our critically important carbon rich forests.... We’ll also take action to help keep communities safe from fire, flood, and extreme weather events. The science, and Tasmanians from all walks of life, are crystal clear: strong climate action is needed now.

03.01.2022 Hope springs eternal. Happy new year everyone. https://www.google.com.au//s/amp.abc.net./article/13024148

01.01.2022 In a climate and biodiversity crisis, logging beautiful, carbon-rich forests is inexcusable. Yesterday, we went in to a patch of forest north of the Pieman River in the takayna/Tarkine wilderness, to say thank you to forest defenders from the @Bob Brown Foundation who have put their bodies on the line to stop Forestry Tasmania's rainforest and old growth logging clearfell operation. So far, it’s worked - and we owe them our enduring gratitude. ... Please take a moment to email Premier Gutwein to tell him these crimes against Nature and our climate must end. [email protected] The Tasmanian Greens will keep fighting, as we always have, to protect lutruwita/Tasmania’s wild forests.
