21.01.2022 Information from NZ Casting for Recovery May be helpful

21.01.2022 We have had the wonderful news that our application for a grant to run a CfR retreat to the NSW Dept. of Primary Industry and fisheries has been successful. We have been allocated almost $7500 for this financial year, which almost covers the expenses for a retreat. NSW DPI runs these grants to help promote community involvement in recreational fishing and that program is funded from fishing licence fees. The ACT Fly Fishing Club is thankful for this grant as fund raising generally at the moment is not easy. The picture below is of a quilt donated by a member of the Club and will be raffled at the next retreat in March 2021.

18.01.2022 As we are going to miss out on a retreat this year, here is something to enjoy from our friends in NZ and to help you to look forward to when we can have our own weekend again. Be safe, be kind, be happy

16.01.2022 This was at our first retreat, what a great memory! To remind you of good times, which will come back before long. Stay safe and use your inner strength.

15.01.2022 Great to see big smiles. Hope we will have the same cheers when we have our next retreat from 19-21 March 2021.

14.01.2022 Hopefully we will see smiling faces like this at our retreat in March 2021!

13.01.2022 I know our retreat has been cancelled, but these things are not. Life goes on, lots of things to do to keep you happy

11.01.2022 Sadly, I have to let you know that the ACT Fly Fishers have had to cancel the planned 6th retreat, scheduled for late August 2020. I am sure you will understand. Like all of us, we have to wait and see how things will pan out. My guess is that it will be next year before we can organise another retreat. But there will be another one, for sure. In the mean time, be good, be fit, be happy.

11.01.2022 Hopefully we also can announce the date for our 2021 retreat soon. Can’t wait to see a bunch of smiling faces like this mob!

09.01.2022 hello friends, just heard from USA CfR about their experience with Covid19. They (yes they have an office with full time staff) normally run around 60 retreats a year for some 800 women throughout the country. This involves some 1800 volunteers, so a massive undertaking. But of course they have had to cancel any retreats planned till end July and are reviewing future retreats on a 3 months rolling basis. Anyway, have a look at their website CfR , lots of interesting material on it, including bits on mindfulness, FF resources, meditation music, uplifting videos etc. All good for the soul and body. Be fit, be kind, be happy

08.01.2022 Hello CfR friends, it's been a while and I have been dreaming about times passed (photo). With regards to the next CfR retreat, the Council of the ACT Fly Fishers is still waiting to see how things develop with the virus. A big concern of course is that the participants may be immune compromised and therefore even more risk averse than the general population. There also is the issue of the availability of our regular fishing venue, Rainbow Springs Fly Fishing School. So pleas...e hang in there, we will definitely have a retreat in 2021. In the meantime, please register your interest in attending the next retreat on CfR website www.castingforrecovery.org.au so that we can start the process as soon as we have set a date. There have been a few new registrations in the last couple of weeks, so get your name on the list as well. Whenever it is, it will be a fun weekend. Be fit and be happy, Nick See more

06.01.2022 Our friends in the North Island are ready for another retreat, have fun people!

06.01.2022 More good news about our upcoming retreat 19 - 21 March 2021. The ArbonneTeam will provide the pampering session again, thanks to Katharina, team leader. In the past, the participants have said they feel like they are walking on clouds after a pampering session! The ACT Fly Fishers CfR team are busy getting ready for the retreat, booking the hotel, organising a ACT Government bus, making sure we have enough buddies etc. While we have quite a few names of women who wish to attend, get your name on the list as well, you never know if there may be a drop-out. Go to www.castingforrecovery.org.au and register your interest or email [email protected] . It is a fun weekend!

06.01.2022 Good news! The ACT Fly Fishers Club will hold its 6th CfR retreat from Friday pm 19 to Sun pm 21 March 2021. It is hoped that all Covid 19 restrictions will be lifted by then. We already have quite a few women, who had registered their interest in attending the August 2020 retreat, which had to be cancelled because of the dreaded virus. Anyway, please register your interest in attending the March 2021 or any future retreats. You never know, we may be able to run another one ...in late August 2021, depending on interests and on funds being available. You can make donations to Casting for Recovery via National Foundation for Australian Women at www.nfaw.org (tax deductible receipt issued) or by contacting [email protected]. Why not sponsor a place for a participant for the next retreat? We take 12 women at a time and each retreat costs around $8000, all funded by the ACT Fly Fishers Club. Any contribution is welcome. Have a look at the short ABC News video on our website www.castingforrecovery.org.au to see what fun the women have on a retreat. You can help to give a weekend of fun to another woman recovering from breast cancer. See more
