24.01.2022 Our thoughts and well wishes are with those beekeepers at the front of the fires’ devastation. https://mobile.abc.net.au//beekeepers-traumatise/11721756

23.01.2022 Another wonderful product from bees. This time from their venom. It has the potential to kill viruses and stop cancer cells growing.

23.01.2022 Spring has certainly arrived in Sydney with swarms turning up almost daily. This year is for the bees. The past couple of years of drought has not bee(n) good for our bees and they’ve struggled through. So good to see so many of them fat and well.

20.01.2022 Castlecrag Honey produced from hives in Sydney’s bush land and gardens, is 100% Pure, Raw Honey ALWAYS. We are committed to producing the highest quality single origin pure raw honey. https://amp.smh.com.au//fake-honey-scandal-widens-to-austr

20.01.2022 Great easy to read article on what makes a queen bee. Hint: it’s not all in the Royal jelly!

15.01.2022 An important event for beekeepers and those interested in food security.

15.01.2022 Thanks Kyoko for the beautiful pics of your Castlecrag Honey tasting display. If you want to learn how to bake exquisite cakes from a true artisan take a cooking class with Kyoko.

15.01.2022 This is extreme urban beekeeping. On top of this building in downtown Tokyo live bees producing urban honey. They apparently forage in the nearby Imperial Gardens. For those able to read Japanese you can read more here http://gin-pachi.jp/

12.01.2022 Here's an anecdote worth following up with research regarding the possibility of bee venom providing protection from COVID-19. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7190514/

12.01.2022 It’s out! Free range food production! https://lilydalefreerange.com.au/kelly-whitaker

09.01.2022 A wonderful video of the journey of pollen from flower to Beehive.

09.01.2022 Pollinators rock! Join in pollinator week and give thanks for the wonderful job they do for us :)

08.01.2022 Another hive successfully removed from a tree that needs to be removed as it is more hollows than tree. This hive was 4m up a tree with multiple entrances. A combination of forced abscond and bee vacuuming removed all bees from the tree. Thanks to the property owners for considering the bees’ welfare first.

07.01.2022 Stuck for a unique but inexpensive Christmas gift? Give the gift of honey and support your local bees! Did you know many of our honey producing hives are from rescued bees? Each of our honeys has a provenance label so you know whether your honey is truly local.

06.01.2022 Spring is well underway, lots of honey coming in where there’s been decent rain. Getting the bees ready for hopefully the Manuka flowering in the Blue Mountains. Here’s what the researchers are finding out about Australian Manuka honey - that it’s superior to New Zealand Manuka Honey. https://www.abc.net.au//medicinal-honey-in-austra/11635412

03.01.2022 Bees may be able to tell us when they’re not doing so well by analysing the sounds they make. Read more here https://www.economist.com//21739645-matching-honeybee-nois

02.01.2022 From Biodynamic Australia re when is the best time to work with bees. I certainly notice my bees are calmer on the days they say you should work with them. Rudolf Steiner and later Maria Thun advised that the bees concentrate on certain activities according to what constellation is behind the Moon. When the Moon is in an Earth sign (Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo), the bees concentrate on building foundation so there are more bees in the hives - best not to disturb them.... When the Moon is in an Air sign (Aquarius, Gemini and Libra), the bees are mainly out foraging - an excellent time to work the hive. When the Moon is in a Water sign,(Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio), is is more likely to be humid, overcast or raining and the bees are likely to be aggressive if the hive is worked. When the Moon is in a Fruit sign, (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) , bees are gathering nectar, another excellent time to work the hive. If it is raining, freezing, stormy or it is very windy, the bees will be a bit stressed, so best not to work (from Alan Johnson).
