22.01.2022 This is my story, and why I love WA.

21.01.2022 If you are feeling unwell, please postpone your plans. That haircut, dinner with friends, dance class or work appointment can all wait if you are sick. By pri...oritising your health and staying home to recover, you will protect yourself and others. If you have any of the following symptoms you are eligible for COVID-19 testing: A fever (37.5C) Recent history of a fever (e.g. night sweats, chills) Acute respiratory infection (e.g. cough, shortness of breath, sore throat.) Acute loss of smell or loss of taste. Find further details on COVID-19 testing at www.wa.gov.au

21.01.2022 Here we go again... The NSW Liberal Government is trying to unwind the fair GST arrangements that WA fought so hard to secure even though WA continues to prop... up other States every year. The old GST deal meant our State missed out on $30 billion compared to our population share. The new deal is not making other States’ budget positions any worse - WA still contributes far more than it gets back. Make no mistake, the NSW Liberal Government have done this deliberately to cover up their own Budget mismanagement. My message to them: Back off.

17.01.2022 I'd like to provide you with some information about an evolving COVID-19 situation off the Pilbara coast. On September 16 a bulk carrier named Patricia Oldend...orff anchored nine nautical miles off Port Hedland from Manilla - in preparation for being loaded with manganese ore. The vessel was scheduled to berth earlier this week with a crew of 20 Filipino nationals on board plus the vessels master. However, we were informed by the vessel that two crew members were showing flu-like symptoms, so arrangements were made to have them tested. Those tests occurred yesterday when two RFDS nurses boarded the vessel by helicopter to collect samples. The nurses wore full PPE and, along with the flight crew, took all the necessary safety precautions. This afternoon it has been confirmed that the two crew members tested positive for COVID-19. The crew members remain on board the ship in isolation and the ship is still anchored off the coast. Our teams at Health are well-drilled at responding to situations like this so an incident team has been formed. They will be sending a rapid response team of clinical and logistical staff to Port Hedland first thing in the morning. The rapid response crew will assess the situation in the morning on the best way to deal with the crew on board the vessel. This is an evolving situation and is being handled appropriately. The safety of Western Australians is always our highest priority in dealing with these cases. We will keep you up to date with further information as it comes to hand. These two cases show just how easy it is for the virus to return in our State. It is why we must remain extra vigilant and avoid taking unnecessary risks. Strong border controls and quarantine systems are so important when it comes to protecting all Western Australians.

16.01.2022 Do you know anyone who has arrived in WA from Victoria since 21 December? Effective immediately they are required to self-quarantine to prevent the spread of CO...VID-19. We know this is difficult and disappointing, however it is what is required to keep everyone safe. Please ensure family and friends do the right thing to protect themselves and others. Anyone who arrived in WA from VIC since 21 December is required to do the following: self-quarantine in a suitable premises until you have spent 14 days in WA; present for a COVID-19 test as soon as any symptoms develop; present for a COVID-19 test on Day 11 after arrival in WA. 12.01.2022 The WA Police Force is reminding recent travellers from Victoria of their self-quarantine requirements under the Emergency Management Act. Under new Directions ...that came into effect from 1 January, travel from Victoria is deemed as medium risk, and all people who arrived from Victoria since 21 December 2020 must undertake 14 days of self-quarantine at a suitable premises from their date of arrival. Further, they must undertake a COVID-19 test on Day 11 following their entry into WA. In recent days, these travellers have received several emails and texts informing them of their requirements. Section 11 of the Directions stipulates that travellers must provide WA Police with information about their quarantine and any exit from WA. To do this, travellers now need to enter their G2G Pass Dashboard to provide details of their quarantine address and of any proposed departure from the state, following these steps: 1. Click this link https://www.g2gpass.com.au/login 2. Log into the traveller dashboard 3. Click on Additional Details in the menu at the top of the page 4. Enter the relevant detail where applicable Police continue to issue infringement notices to travellers committing self-quarantine breaches. Recent examples include: A 33-year-old WA man who had returned from Sydney on 21 December, apprehended yesterday afternoon after leaving his room at a Rivervale motel. He had already received a negative Day 11 test result and his quarantine period ends tonight. A 23-year-old WA woman who had returned from Victoria on 31 December, who was reported by another resident after using a shared apartment swimming pool and buying a coffee from a coffee truck. A 25-year-old female tourist who had arrived with her partner from Melbourne on 31 December, who was not in her nominated premises when police conducted a routine compliance check yesterday afternoon. All three were issued with infringements for Failing to Comply with a Direction under the Emergency Management Act 2005. Breaching directions made under the Emergency Management Act may result in on-the-spot fines of $1,000 for individuals, or where a matter is deemed serious and dealt with under formal criminal charges penalties of up to $50,000 or imprisonment for 12 months may be imposed by the courts.

11.01.2022 GOOD NEWS, WA! Western Australia has recorded no new cases of coronavirus overnight The States total case count remains at 641. There are six active cases in... the State five Western Australians and one from overseas. Sadly, it comes as Victoria recorded 439 new cases of COVID-19 overnight and 11 deaths.

11.01.2022 We all know just how hard 2020 has been. Here in WA, our State is in the best possible position as we continue our strong recovery from COVID-19. But times are... still tough for many Western Australians, and there is always more work to do. At the start of the pandemic, to give everyone certainty, we rolled out a freeze on all household fees and charges. Today, as a result of our strong budget management over the last three years, we can now go one step further. Every household in Western Australia will receive a historic, one-off $600 Household Electricity Credit. The WA Household Electricity Credit will be automatically applied to every Synergy or Horizon Power residential account as of today. You will see it on your own bill in November and December. It'll mean WA families have a bit of extra money available in the lead up to Christmas. The $600 credit is fully funded through the recent Bell Group settlement, for the losses incurred in the Bell Group collapse in the early 1990s. It made sense that these funds go straight back to Western Australians. Especially in times like these, when people may need that bit of extra financial relief because of COVID-19. But I have a request: If this credit means you can spend some extra money, use it to support our local WA businesses. By spending local, you'll be helping to support WA jobs, support your fellow West Aussies, and keep WA safe and strong.

10.01.2022 Some parents worry that an infant's immune system cant handle so many vaccines. Immunisation myth busted! Vaccines are designed to strengthen and support a baby's immune system. If you have concerns about vaccinating your child, the best person to discuss them with is your GP.

10.01.2022 The changes to Facebook this morning are completely unacceptable. A number of important sources of official Government information have been blocked. This inclu...des the national Bureau of Meteorology and the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services. We understand that these pages will be back online soon - which is extremely important. I urge Facebook and the Federal Government to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. What Facebook has done is irresponsible and could have damaging consequences. A solution is needed immediately. In the meantime, emergency warning information can be found at www.emergency.wa.gov.au and weather warnings can be found at www.bom.gov.au/wa UPDATE: the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA and Bureau of Meteorology pages are now available again - please follow them for emergency information if you don't already.

10.01.2022 BREAKING: Our emergency legislation to protect Western Australia from Clive Palmer's $30 billion claim has just passed Parliament. It will now go straight to Go...vernor Kim Beazley, who has been waiting on standby, ready to sign it into law. Theres no time to wait. This law protects the taxpayers of Western Australia, so essential services wont be under threat. Thank you to all the Members of Parliament that genuinely supported us on this extremely important matter. This law shows that Western Australians will not be bullied. We will never give in. We will never give up.

08.01.2022 A few weeks ago Clive Palmer claimed he would sit out the State Election. But now, WA households are once again being bombarded with a massive, expensive ad cam...paign against Western Australia. I'm sure it will only get worse. Is anyone really surprised that he couldn't let the chance go by to back in his friends in the Liberal Party? Along with the Liberals and One Nation, he tried to bring down the borders against health advice. He tried to sue us for $30 billion and bankrupt our State. I said it then and I'll say it now: we won't give in to Clive Palmer and his friends.

Additional measures have now been announced for travellers who have been in NSW or Victoria within 14 days of travel. No one is allowed into Western Australia if they have been in Victoria or New South Wales in the previous 14 days, unless they meet the new exemption list. The number of exemptions have been reduced significantly, meaning only specific essential workers, transport and freight workers and those persons approved by the State Emergency Coordinator, on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, will be permitted to enter WA. In addition, everyone who is permitted to enter WA, who has been in Victoria or NSW for the previous 14 days, will be subject to two mandatory tests for COVID-19 - one on arrival and one on day 11 of their quarantine. Anyone arriving who has been to Victoria within that period will now also be required to undertake hotel quarantine at their own expense. 02.01.2022 Ive been pretty clear about where I stand on WAs hard border. And Ive been pretty clear that Im not about to move. The hard border has kept us safe, and giv...en us a level of confidence to open up our economy within WA. Its been good to see other States backing us in this week, and Id like to thank them all for doing so. The Federal Governments public withdrawal of their support for Clive Palmers reckless and selfish attempt to tear our border down has been welcomed. But the simple truth is that because the case had already been underway, and evidence had already been given by the Federal Government, there is a real risk that the damage was done. As it stands that evidence remains part of the case, and was given in support of Clive Palmers position. Thats why the Western Australian Government is seeking to have that evidence struck out and a new trial put in place a complete reset. An application for this to occur is being put before the Federal Court this morning. Whatever happens next, I can assure you that I will not stop fighting for Western Australia. We will do whatever we can to maintain our strong measures to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 returning in our community and help get our economy back on track. As always, we have to remain vigilant, both as a State, a country and as individuals. That means taking personal responsibility maintaining good hygiene, keeping a distance from others where possible, staying home if sick and getting tested if you get symptoms. Weve done so well so far. Lets keep going.

01.01.2022 As you now know, the community outbreak of COVID-19 in South Australia is extremely serious. As a result, yesterday, we acted swiftly to strengthen our controll...ed border regime with South Australia. Those were initial steps to protect all Western Australians, until we received further information on the South Australian outbreak. I can now outline some further measures to protect the health and safety of the WA community. Since our announcements yesterday, I am advised that the updated controlled border regime with South Australia has come into effect without major issues. I understand those changes have caused frustration and disappointment for some, but this is a deadly virus that we cannot take any chances on. Here in Western Australia, we will do whatever it takes to protect our citizens and our way of life. I always said that we would not hesitate to bring in tougher border controls if required. Unfortunately, the time for those tougher border controls came faster than anyone could have expected. And we don’t have time to waste. That’s why on, on further advice from our Chief Health Officer this morning, we have decided to take further steps to protect our State and reduce the risk of the virus entering WA. Given the size of the outbreak, our Chief Health Officer has now determined that South Australia has moved from a ‘very low risk’ category to the ‘medium risk’ category. This is the highest rating of any other state or territory and South Australia may move to the ‘high risk’ category very soon. As a result, effective from 6pm tonight, we will further restrict travel from South Australia or anyone that has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This means they will need to meet a strict exemption category for those travellers to enter WA. This exemption system mirrors the system we had in place for Victoria during the height of their second wave. The exemption list for South Australia is limited to: - certain senior Government Officials; - certain active military personnel; - a member of the Commonwealth Parliament; - a person carrying out functions under a law of the Commonwealth; - a person coming to WA at the request of the Chief Health Officer; - a person responsible for transport freight or logistics; and - anyone who is given approval by the State Emergency Coordinator or an authorised officer. That final category includes compassionate reasons and that could include those Western Australians that may have travelled to South Australia in the last few days. Tonight we have two flights from Adelaide scheduled to arrive for anyone on those flights, they will now need to be processed through the exemption system. Those passengers are being notified of the changes by the airlines and at the Adelaide airport, before they board. For those small number of arrivals, they will need to self-quarantine at a suitable premise for 14 days subject to use of the G2G Now app and/or police checks. If a suitable premise is not available, they will be put in hotel quarantine at their own expense. They will also need to be tested for COVID-19 on arrival at Perth Airport and on Day 11, prior to coming out of 14 days of quarantine. For anyone arriving by road, through the Eucla checkpoint, this system will begin 48 hours later - from 6pm Wednesday November 18. We are allowing for some additional time for this form of travel, as we understand many people may already be on their way to the checkpoint. However, these people will still need quarantine for 14 days and be tested within 48 hours of arrival and on Day 11. These border controls will be constantly reviewed and can be tightened, extended or relaxed depending on the latest health advice from South Australia. But I urge everyone to reconsider their travel into WA if they have been in South Australia. Please do not come to WA at this point, if you don’t have to. The situation is just too risky right now. These steps, while they might seem harsh, are being taken on the best health advice to protect everyone. Bringing back the hard border altogether - to all States and Territories - is under serious consideration. We are closely monitoring the situation and if we need to go further, we will. Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we work through this extraordinary situation.
