25.01.2022 On Monday June 1st itll be winter in Australia .... and that means rain! Great for many reasons but not for damaged or old gutters. 23.01.2022 NewTechWood composite decking in Bibra Lake. Wed built a composite deck for our client in his rear garden and he liked it so much, we asked for the same decking under his front veranda complete with NewTechWood deck lighting

23.01.2022 Our client in Oakford said the ground ends of his veranda posts were looking a little rusted. Well, they were a lot rusted so we changed all 16 for new H4 timber posts on galvanised stirrups. Looks better and the veranda is now safe

22.01.2022 Stay safe in this wild weather Perth. With winds up to 100 kms in the metro area, its a good idea to "batten down the hatches". TIP: if you have a gate thats banging in the wind and keeping you awake, wrap something heavy like a brick in an old rag and wedge it on the locking side against the gate so the latch is tight against the lock. Problem solved :)

12.01.2022 A client wed built a hardwood deck for a few years ago asked us to strip it back and re-oil it. It was quite an effort to take it back to raw. We had to use 2 industrial machines to remove the vanish and old oil but we eventually got a result. RECOMMENDATION: always use an oil on your deck, not a vanish. Vanish will sit on top like nail polish and not penetrate the timber. For a healthy deck, use an oil. Water based is very good P.s Thanks to Emmas Dad for lending a hand :)

07.01.2022 Perth Weekend Weather Warning - hey everyone, this weekend is due to bring a strong storm across Perth. If you dont live in a house like the dome of safety pictured then weve got 10 important tips to help keep your home safe: 1) If you know of any loose roof sheets, have the screws tightened down 2) Loose roof tiles or spares kept on the roof? bring down any spares tiles and have a professional fix the loose ones ... 3) Place a door stop or heavy object against gates to prevent banging and damage (and driving the neighbours insane!) 4) Place towels along bottoms of exterior doors to prevent water escaping in 5) Secure all outdoor furniture and pot plants 6) If the wind really is a threat, put sheets of plywood against windows 7) Trim back tree branches and foliage that could be a threat 8) Clear your washing line of its contents otherwise ol Mr Jones down the road might end up with your smalls 9) If your gutters do backfill when its absolutely pouring down, its probably because the gutters are trying hard to get the big volume of water down into the down pipe. This doesnt always mean your gutters are faulty, its just a lot of water to filter in a short period of time 10) DONT PANIC! If you need help, ring the SES Stay safe everyone!

02.01.2022 Can I grow a vine over a pergola or balcony? Yes but albeit with due caution. The vine can wrap itself around the timber pulling nails out and even crush a structure or debris can rot on the timbers and damage the integrity of the decking boards. You can see an example of a balcony we demolished today. So, enjoy plants on your balcony but perhaps leave vines for brick walls or climbing frames
