23.01.2022 From classroom desks to dining room tables. See how the students, parents and teachers from these schools navigated online learning, and what they learned together along the way. #EdWeek20 *Posted by the NSW Department of Education*

18.01.2022 BREAD TAGS Bread Tags for Wheelchairs has been recycling bread tags in South Africa since 2006. They currently collect about 500kg/month, which funds 2-3 wheelchairs. Now they are collecting in Australia too ! The tags are recycled locally, raising funds to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people in South Africa.... Please collect them, rather than adding to the garbage, and send them along to Room One office. There is a big bottle being filled up, thanks to Jo Perkins and the Admin staff. Check out their page ! https://www.facebook.com/aussiebreadtags/

17.01.2022 Well done, CHHS student Solomon Maguire.

17.01.2022 A great post from CHHS Italian exchange student Simone Barlaam.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to past Castle Hill High School student Tim Physick on a huge event: A significant milestone occurs today at Kanebridge Oval during the Back to Baulko matches against Pennant Hills Demons AFL Club in the AFL Sydney competition. In 1991 Tim Physick began playing for the Baulkham Hills Kookas in the Under 11s. In subsequent years, Tim continued to deliver for the Kookas in each and every game he played. ... In the year 2000 the Baulkham Hills senior club became the East Coast Eagles and the Directors decided that ECE should recognise games played with BHAFC for any player who progressed through to East Coast until 2008. During that time many great names have achieved phenomenal success and have played hundreds of games for both clubs. The current numbers are: Jason Duss 433 Tim Physick 433 Jared Madden 400 Luke McLeod 389 Steve Merkel 385 Rodney Frost 362 Liam Madden 359 Tim Coakley 320 Rowan Bilkey 318 Damian Gatte 318 Jared Patira 314 James Gordon 310 Ben Physick 310 Tim Kear 310 It is highly fitting that Tim plays his record breaking 434th game against long-time rival Pennant Hills in today's 9.00am Division Two match at Kanebridge Oval. On behalf of the Eagles President David Arndt and all supporters and players, the Club salutes Tim on this extraordinary milestone. The accompanying picture shows Tim in action in 2009 against UTS. 16.01.2022 Design and technology year book. The year 9 major project for this year consisted of students making fully functional lamps which used multiple computer aided design programs during the product construction process.... As this assignment did not have constraints surrounding the design, students had the ability to let their imagination run wild and create unique lamps that suit their intended environments. Throughout this year, as a student in Mrs Wildeisen’s class I was able to gain an extensive amount of useful skills that will be beneficial in senior years and potentially in my future career in the design industry. By being exposed to a wide range of different CAD and CAM programs in this course, it has broadened my take on design and the possibilities for students like myself to create products that can be used in everyday life. 16.01.2022 Seven years since CHHS turned 50 !

15.01.2022 Make sure you watch Youtube at 8pm Thursday. Nancy Liang from CHHS does the animation.

14.01.2022 Concrete and construction a great mix Our Yr 11 Construction class and their teacher Mr Oliver Meredith (assisted also by Mr Joseph Nakhoul) have been working hard on laying a concrete slab as a base for some outdoor settings for students at the front of the school. They have selected a terrific location. Dappled light, shade in summer, sunshine in winter - all with a leafy surround.... In a school that always needs more space for student recreation, this is terrific idea. Were very grateful for the work and labour of the construction class and their teachers. Top job !

07.01.2022 We’re looking forward to NAIDOC Week and celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We’ll listen, learn, participate in activities and proudly show our support for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

07.01.2022 Three amazing Castle Hill High School students from the class of 2001. Amy Orman who has performed in song and dance at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, Jessica Freeman who is an architect and performs musically under the name Sui Zhen and Natasha Usmar who has danced all over the world, and is now in Opera Australia. The girls have remained best friends for over 20 years. What a wonderful bond.

07.01.2022 Updated information on COVID This is a moveable feast so we need to be alert and nimble with plans to accommodate the many changes. As I write, COVID infections are becoming increasingly localised at schools relatively nearby. The following reminds us all to do the right thing. In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents are reminded not to send their children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mild flu or cold symptoms. The school will make arrangem...ents for students who present as unwell to be sent home. Students who have been absent due to flu or cold-like symptoms are not to return to school until they have a negative COVID test and are symptom free. The school must sight the negative COVID test results before students can return to school In addition to the above: Parents, carers and other non essential visitors are not permitted on the school site without an appointment Where possible, students will stay within their relevant cohort groups for all learning activities. Due to this recent new requirement, the school has temporarily abandoned its PC groups (mixed year groups) and used PC time to extend lessons throughout the day. All camps and excursions are not permitted and are on hold. Activities like Showcase which would have been held on the evening of Wednesday 26 August have obviously been cancelled. In the meantime, we are all working hard to appropriately practise social distancing (in our circumstance), undertake regular use of sanitisers (several additional sanitiser stations have been purchased for use around the school) and the use of masks, while optional, is supported. Principal Vicki Brewer.

06.01.2022 "Learn as much as you can about the culture and participate." - Aunty Deanna. Each year, NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who are part of some of the oldest continuing cultures on the planet. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020 *Posted by the NSW Department of Education*

05.01.2022 Best wishes to our Year 12 students as they begin their Trial HSC exams today. Two weeks of exams where the support of parents, friends and teachers will be very important.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to Castle Hill High School student Taylah Hallab. Her thesis is complete, and her Honours year of Social Work at the University of New South Wales is coming to an end. I was inspired to write my thesis about mental health help-seeking behaviours within the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) community to highlight the barriers faced when addressing mental health issues. Experiences of trauma, discrimination, and racial profiling have led to disproportiona...te levels of mental illness within the MENA community, yet, they are the community least likely to seek help. This thesis seeks to lay a foundation for health promotion policy and research that addresses these barriers, and seeks to improve mental health help-seeking within the MENA community. Her experiences and hard work will hold her in good stead as enters her career as a social worker. We wish her well.

04.01.2022 Dena Ross, one of our talented students from several years ago is starting up a dance studio in Dural. Check out her web page if you are interested. https://www.rossdancecentre.com/

04.01.2022 WABIAD Its finally over. Fourteen teams of 10 students have each written a 4000 word book as part of the Write A Book In A Day project for Kids Cancer. What a wonderful thing to do work in a team, negotiate in that team, create and deliver ideas, put those ideas into reality (not easy), hone writing skills, follow through with an undertaking (not easy to do), listen to ideas from others and compromise (really not easy to do), produce a 4000 word book all in a day. And they raised $3700 for kids with cancer! This project ticks every educational box for me. Thank you again to our terrific librarians !

04.01.2022 CHHS staff photo for 2020.

04.01.2022 Good advice for our year 12 students as the HSC approaches https://education.nsw.gov.au/student-wellb/stay-healthy-HSC

04.01.2022 Some wonderful work from our talented TAS students.

03.01.2022 All year 11 students must come to the payments office before school, recess or lunchtime to collect their 2021 Travel Concession Cards. You are required to carry this card to still be traveling on a student Opal card. If you are caught without this card you may be fined more than $200. The travel concession card is free.

02.01.2022 Brilliant song, with animation by Castle Hill High School student Nancy Liang. What a combination !

02.01.2022 Wonderful to see that our very talented Visual Arts teacher, Wendy Prince has an exhibition of her work coming up next moth.

02.01.2022 Student Support Officer (Youth worker) We are pleased to announce that an appointment has been made to the position of Student Support Officer at Castle Hill High school. This is essentially a social worker with delegated responsibilities befitting a fully qualified, university educated social worker whose focus is young people and their wellbeing. We are also pleased to advise that Ms Meredith Maihi, an ex student and ex Student Learning and Support Officer at Castle Hill Hi...gh School has gained this position, on merit. Meredith has a background in child support, working with Family and Community Services prior to this appointment. She loves the idea of connecting with the community, working collaboratively with external agencies and working together with our dynamic welfare team to enhance wellbeing and learning outcomes for students. Amongst the many roles and responsibilities Meredith will be undertaking, she is looking at targeted programs to assist young girls with relationships, friendships and self esteem as well as group stress management programs for seniors, such as yoga. (I want to join this too!). Were very excited about this opportunity for students to have a specialised and personalised expert to guide and mentor students.

01.01.2022 Year 12 graduation ceremony. Some stills from the live stream broadcast. Well done everyone involved. Farewell Year 12 of 2020 !
