23.01.2022 Last weeks main event at Castlemaine Golf Club was the first round of the 3-week Gold Letter Event, the Frank Edwards Par Trophy. A terrific field of 61 took part on Saturday 18th July. Played in three grades, our A grade winner was John Jefferies (+3) from James OBrien (+2). Geoff Deppeler won in B grade (+1) from Tony Olsson (0), and in C grade, Steven Cooper defeated Wayne Toohey on a countback (both 0). Balls were also given to Ian Gilmour (+1), Ossie Symons and M...ark Brackley (0), Garry Moore (-1), Leigh Campbell, Klai Jermyn, Jeremy Bottomley, Glenn Carroll and Tony Strong (all -2). The second round will be played tomorrow. The July Thursday Monthly Medal was played on 16th July, with 38 taking part in two grades. Our medal winner was Harvey Zepnick, with a great score of 77-12-65. He was also our A grade winner, ahead of Matt OBrien (73-1-72) runner up, on a countback from Jim Dimopoulos and Jason Cordy (also 72 nett). In B grade, Adam Leslie (95-18-77) pipped Mick Kehoe (100-22-78). Megan Carroll was NTP on the 7th, and Kane Clack was closest on the 12th. Balls were also given to Harald Domanski and Megan Carroll (73 nett), Rosemary Ashby (75 nett), James OBrien (76 nett) and Gavin Lang (77 nett). Ron Jenkins (17 pts) won the weekly nine hole stableford from his mate, Vin Walsh (15 pts), and last Saturdays 9 hole stableford was won by Marj Stevens (15 pts) just ahead of a pack of four, all on 14 points - with Jo Ralston runner up on a countback from Florence Stevens, Mary Harris and Peggy Ronnau. Marj Stevens also won the IGA Maxi voucher for nearest the pin on the 12th. The women enjoyed some shorter fairways on Tuesday, when some of the red tees were moved forward. Our stableford winner was Connie Dimopoulos (37 pts), and Barb Livingstone (35) was our runner up. Rosemary Ashby won the IGA voucher for hitting nearest the pin on the 12th

23.01.2022 Recent spring-like weather has dried out the course making playing conditions so much better! Thirty nine played in last Thursdays stableford. In A grade, Michael Bottomley pipped James OBrien on a countback (38 pts each), and in B grade, Rosemary Ashby (39 pts) defeated Connie Dimopoulos (37 pts). James OBrien was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Les Prendergast was closest on the 12th. Balls were also given to David Turner and Klai Jermyn (37 pts), James Collie (36... pts), and Matt OBrien, William Burgess, Kane Clack and Jason Cordy (all 35 pts). The second round of the Frank Edwards Par Trophy was played on Saturday. Jason Cordy won in A grade (+1) from James OBrien (0). In B grade, Jim Dimopoulos (+2) came in ahead of Garry Moore (-1) on a countback, and in C grade, Stephen Cooper (0) defeated Peter Sharrock (-2) on a countback. Stephen Cooper was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Megan Carroll was closest on the 12th. Balls were also given to John Jefferies, Harvey Zepnick, Gavin Lang (all 0), and Callan Haynes, Klai Jermyn, Garry Moore, Mark Brackley and Jeremy Bottomley, (all -1). The final round will be played tomorrow, and the Saturday monthly medal will be played the following Saturday, 8th August. An unusual team game - Bingle, Bangle, Bungle - was on the program for Saturdays 9 hole event. Marj Stevens (13 pts) won in a close contest from Trish Sharrock and Kevin Adams (12 pts each), and Marj Higgins won the IGA voucher for nearest the pin on the 12th. Another team game - drop out Ambrose - was played on Tuesday. These team games are as much about the social aspect as the golf, and are enjoyed by everyone. It is particularly pleasing to see our newer members joining in. The winning team was Rosemary Ashby, Leonie Auhl and Dee Sansom (68.57 pts) from Connie Dimopoulos, Denise Billman and Bronwyn Gudgeon (76.16 pts). 23.01.2022 Weekly Golf News The Saturday Medallist of the year for 2020 was played on Saturday 3rd October at Castlemaine Golf Club, with another terrific field of 64 participating. Some of those pins were in tricky positions! We congratulate Stephen Cooper (88-19-69), who is our Medallist of the Year for 2020!... Running concurrently with the Medallist of the Year, was our regular Saturday Monthly Medal. Harald Domanski led the field in this event, with a score of 82-14-68. Winners were: in A grade - Michael Pedretti (80-10-70) from Les Prendergast (79-8-74). In B grade, Harald Domanski (82-14-68) from Garry Moore (91-17-74), and in C grade, Stephen Cooper (88-19-69) from Robert Tingay (97-25-72). Grant Thomas was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Ross Bottomley was closest on the 12th. Balls were also given to Wayne Toohey, Leigh Campbell and Kane Clack (all 72), Garry Moore and Liam O’Brien (74), Barry Ashby, Jen Dyer, Adam Leslie and Ross Bottomley (75), and Peter McCoombe, John Jefferies, Kevin Gardner and John Prendergast (76). On Tuesday 6th October the ladies turned out in good numbers, with 23 taking part (7 played 9 holes and 16 played 18 holes - the October Monthly Medal). Marg Lang (94-17-77) was our medal winner this month, and Barb Livingstone (103-25-78) was runner up. Trish Sharrock took home the Maxi IGA voucher for the least number of putts (31). Big Hole Golf is on today (Friday), with hit off around 4.30 this afternoon. Nine short par 3 holes, with a bbq to follow after the game. 16.01.2022 Weekly News Another Gold Letter Event was played at Castlemaine Golf Club this week - the Foursomes 27 holes Championships. Twenty two teams took part, with family partnerships taking out the main awards! We congratulate our gross winners, Matt and James O’Brien (115), from Rob Prendergast and Rhys Jenkins (119). Our nett winners were Stephen and Brock Cooper (111.3/4) from Ian and Tom Gilmour (113.1/4). Darren Saint was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Les Prender...gast was closest on the 12th. A good crowd of 24 enjoyed the fun game, Big Hole last Friday night, and the bbq that followed afterwards. Liam O’Brien was our winner (15 pts) from Brooke Williams (16), and Megan Carroll won the prize for the least number of puts (9). The regular 9 hole stableford winner this week was Harald Domanski (18 pts) from Gavin Lang (17 pts) on a countback from Jean Lorenz and Peggy Ronnau. Tuesday’s game was Vegas, a three person team game with chances to put in some huge scores - our winning team, with a terrific score of 4111 pts, was Helen McEwen, Jo Ralston and Mary Harris, and not too far behind as runners up were Barb Livingstone, Bronwyn Gudgeon and Marj Lang on 4072. Trish Sharrock won the Maxi IGA voucher for nearest the pin on the 12th. Saturday is the Mixed Championships, as well as individual stableford, and on Sunday 22nd November we are playing the popular annual event, Max Gale's Stoney Creek 3 ball classic, with hit off from 11 am. Australia Day 26th January, 4 person Ambrose. With a noon start and all teams finishing at a similar time, it was great to see everyone having some social time after the game in the clubhouse. Seventy-six playedin perfect weather (19 teams - 10 mixed, 9 mens). Winners of the mens section were James and Matt O’Brien, Leigh Campbell and Ossie Symons (57.3/8) from Kane Clack, Mark Brackley, Geoff Margary, and Blade Lacey (58) in second place, and Michael and Jeremy Bottomley, Peter McCoombe and Mick Kehoe (59.3/8) in third place. In the mixed section, John Prendergast, Helen McEwen, Michelle O’Brien and Brad Sturgess were our winners, and in equal second place were Ross, Julie and Jayne Bottomley and Sam Grimes along with Josh Gill, Leonie Auhl, Bev Pike and Michael Jamieson. 14.01.2022 The Weekly News On Tuesday 1st December, the final round of the Women’s Championships was played, and we congratulate Megan Carroll, our winner for 2020! Our nett winner was Jen Dyer (check the board in the clubhouse for all the details). The December Monthly Medal was also played, and Julie Bottomley was this month’s winner (95-23-72). Glenda Jeffries won a pot of Warral honey for nearest the pin on the 12th, and Julie Bottomley won the Maxi IGA voucher for the ...least number of putts on a countback from Megan Carroll (29). 39 played in Thursday’s Par round and In A grade (+2-14), Daniel Pollard (+6) came in a couple ahead of Matt O’Brien (+4). In B grade, Barry Ashby (+6) was also a couple ahead of Kors Van Eyk (+4). Matt O’Brien was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Barry Ashby was closest on the 12th. Balls were given to Connie Dimopoulos (+3), Wayne Toohey (+2), Mick Kehoe (+1), and Ian Fraser, Ian Gilmour, James O’Brien and Tony Olsson, (0). Last week’s nine hole winner was John Prendergast (20) from Grant Thomas (19). The first two rounds of the Men’s Championships were played on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November and the final round will be played tomorrow, 5th December. Our monthly parma night - chicken, salads and chips - is on that evening, starting at 6 pm in the clubhouse. Family and friends are welcome to join our members, and presentations will be made to our major winners during the evening. 09.01.2022 Official notice from Golf Australia No more competition golf allowed under Stage 3. Social golf only permitted. Regional Victoria (Stage 3 restrictions):... Golf Operations Based on advice published on the DHHS website and verbal advice received from the Victorian Government, Golf Australia advises the following: Groups will be limited to two people unless they all reside in the same household. For the avoidance of doubt, groups of three or four will only be allowed if all members of the group reside in the same household. Club competitions must not be conducted, but handicapping of scores through non-contact means is allowed. GA has engaged in depth on this topic with the Victorian Government as competition golf is a key aspect of club/facility life across the state. It was confirmed to GA that competition golf is unable to be conducted under Stage 3 restriction. Club/facility driving ranges, putting greens and chipping areas cannot operate unless a distance of at least 100 metres between groups of 2 can be maintained. No hire equipment, including golf clubs, pull buggies, golf carts or range balls may be made available for hire under any circumstances. Exception: Golf carts may be hired to a person who has a disability, or who is over the age of 65, or who can demonstrate that they require one due to having special needs. (Note: players are permitted to bring and use their own cart, however the one person per cart limit applies.) A one person per cart limit, unless both riders live in the same household and both meet the criteria as listed above. Clubs/facilities are required to thoroughly clean the carts before and after each use. 1 to 1 coaching can continue in a non-contact, socially distanced setting Indoor coaching is not permitted If you are not doing exercise or a physical activity where you are out of breath or puffing then you must wear a face covering. You must carry a face covering with you and wear it before and after you exercise. Clubhouse Operations Clubhouses must close for food and beverage service. Clubs & facilities may trade for takeaway service provided they can meet all physical distancing conditions in doing so. Golf Service Centres/Pro Shops must limit the number of people within the facility to comply with the requirement for patrons to keep a minimum of 1.5 metres apart. 07.01.2022 The Weekly News As the year winds down at Castlemaine Golf Club, our last main event before Christmas was our annual Yellow Ball day, with 68 taking part. For the first time in a few years, all yellow balls made their way safely back to the clubhouse without any mishaps! William Burgess, Garry Moore, George Gray and Barry Ashby had a terrific score of 46 to take out the Yellow Ball prize from Peter McCoombe, Tony Strong, Ian Murray and Stuart Jurriaans (44 pts).... Individual stableford ran concurrently with Yellow Ball. Jo Ralston (41 pts) and Megan Carroll (40 pts) led the field of women. In the men’s comp, Rhys Jenkins (41 pts) came in ahead of Gavin Lang (39 pts) in A grade, Garry Moore defeated Jim Dimopoulos on a countback in B grade (39 pts each), and in C grade, Vaughan Harding (40 pts) was just ahead of Peter Gresswell (39 pts). Kevin Gardner was nearest the pin on the 7th, and James O’Brien was closest on the 12th. Balls were given to Laurie Harding and Kevin Gardner (38 pts), Connie Dimopoulos and Matt O’Brien (37 pts), and Peter Verlaan, Leon Thomas, Michael Jamieson and Peter McCoombe (36 pts). Thirty seven played for the December Thursday medal on 17th December. Kerin Loury (87-20-67) was our clear winner. The November Saturday Monthly Medal, played on 7th November, was won by Liam O’Brien (102-39-63), fresh on the heels of last week’s Bud Annand Trophy! Well done Liam! Fifty-six took part in three grades. Our A grade winners were Harald Domanski (84-13-71) from Peter McCoombe (82-10-72), in B grade, Stan Saville (89-19-70) from Geoff Deppeler (87-14-73), and in C grade, Liam O’Brien (102-39-63...) from his Mum, Michelle (100-29-71). Glenn Lorenz was nearest the pin on the 7th and Adam Leslie was closest on the 12th. Balls were given to Brock Cooper (71 pts), Kors Van Eyk and Ian Gilmour (73 pts) and Glenn Lorenz and Les Prendergast (74 pts). Hit off from 4.30 pm and followed by a casual BBQ. Golf $5, meal $10 (kids half price for the bbq). Families and friends are most welcome to come along and give this fun game a go, and enjoy some time to relax over the casual meal after the game (social distancing, of course!). Saturday 14th, aside from the usual 9 hole stableford, is the Foursomes 27 holes championships, and next Tuesday’s game is the fun team game, Vegas. Just come along and Peggy will put you in a team. While work is being done to replace the 10th fairway with Santa Anna grass, it will be a par 3, starting part way down, with play on the right hand side of the fairway. 02.01.2022 The Weekly News It seems we can’t keep the Castlemaine Golf Club members down, even through the Christmas period - they played stableford on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and also on the Monday public holiday! It is pleasing to see so many green fee players enjoying our course as well. A great field of forty-nine turned up on Christmas Eve for stableford. In A grade (+2-12), Ross Bottomley defeated Les Prendergast on a countback (36 pts each); in B grade (13-18), Lau...rie Smith (38 pts) led from Garry Moore (37 pts), and in C grade (19-54), Peter Stemp (42 pts) came in ahead of Jeremy Cross (40 pts). Rhys Jenkins was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Garry Moore was closest on the 12th. Balls were given to Jen Dyer (38 pts), Jason Cordy, Ron Jenkins, Geoff Deppeler (36 pts), and Tony Strong, Stan Saville, Will Dodson and Rosemary Ashby (35 pts). On Boxing Day, another good field of 31 played stableford. The A grade winners were Peter Verlaan (37 pts) from Kane Clack (36 pts), and Garry Moore defeated Mark Brackley on a countback (38 pts) in B grade. George Gray was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Ossie Symons was closest on the 12th. Balls were given to Matt O’Brien and Adam Leslie (36 pts) and Ossie Symons and Peter Sharrock (35 pts). A smaller group also played on the Monday Public Holiday (28th December). Kevin Gardner (35 pts) was just ahead of Matt O’Brien (34 pts) on a countback from Martin and Jeremy Cross. On Saturday 10th October 64 played stableford. In A grade (+2-13), Les Prendergast and Len Watson each had 38 pts, with Les (picture below) winning on a countback. In B grade (14-18), there was another close battle between Ossie Symons and Benjamin Walter, with both on 37 pts, with Ossie winning on a countback. Darren Gervasoni was nearest the pin on the 7th, and Stephen Cooper was closest on the 12th. The winner of the second round of the Captain’s Trophy Par was played on Tuesday 13th October, with Marj Stevens (-2) our winner, and Glenda Jeffries (-4) in second place, on a countback from Rosemary Ashby.
