24.01.2022 The Summer Reading Challenge starts TODAY! Pop into the library to register, and get reading!

24.01.2022 The Orange Marigold is the symbol of the 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence campaign. One of the lovely long standing collaborations of the movement is the Yarn Bombing community's contribution of crocheted marigolds. Grass roots organisations like the Country Women's Association and other crafting groups get together to crochet dozens of marigolds which they then place subversively around town in unexpected public places. The idea is the bright orange catches the eye and raises people's consciousness to the issues of sexism and gender based violence in our communities.

22.01.2022 It's a delight to see every space being well used this morning. In fact we're a little bit euphoric about having our furniture back in the Library again. We love being the community lounge room. There are now no time limits on visits to the Library, which means people can now work, read, socialise, or or just linger and enjoy the shared public space.

03.01.2022 Have you heard about the 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence? We're supporting the 16 Days of Activism campaign with events, several displays of library resources around gender equity, and a video and exhibition in the foyer. The 16 Days starts today which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence towards Women, and ends with International Human Rights Day on 10 December highlighting that violence against women is a fundamental violation of human... rights. The 16 Days campaign has its beginnings in 1960 in the Dominican Republic after three gender activists were murdered on the 25th November, by secret police. The Mirabal sisters pictured here, became the symbol of the Latin American feminist resistance. The Centre for Women's Global Leadership initiated a world wide campaign in 1991, which is now active in over 180 countries and run by more than 6,000 organizations. https://16dayscampaign.org/about-the-campaign/about-cwgl/ The United Nations formally recognised the International Day for the Elimination of Violence towards Women in 1999. https://www.unwomen.org//e/take-action/16-days-of-activism Respect Victoria drives our local campaign, supporting organisations like Public Libraries to play their part in advocacy, and education building within local communities around gender equity. https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/16-days-activism-2020
