05.01.2022 The Castlemaine Masters were disappointed to receive the news today that the Victorian Chief Health Officer (CHO) has denied its request to instigate a COVID-19 hub. A spokesman for the Masters said the news was a significant setback to local Masters football, conceding the clubs chances of resuming operation next week were now finished. "Theres a lot of shattered blokes in the community tonight," the spokesman said. The Masters proposal would have seen the Camp Reserve ...become a quarantine zone with only Masters players permitted to enter. As the side would maintain its customary schedule of one hour of training on one day each week (weather permitting), the quarantine hub was to be extended at the north end to encompass the Railway Hotel, providing players with a venue for rest and relaxation for the remainder of the week. It is understood a significant sticking point for the CHO in the proposal was the insistence that a CUB truck be permitted to make daily deliveries to the hub. "Theres a number of guys under injury clouds at the moment so while they recover the pub would be an excellent vantage point to watch training from, while enjoying a rehabilitating pot and a parma" the spokesman said. It is understood the concept of having families join players in the hub was briefly discussed but firmly rejected. "There were a couple of blokes keen to have other peoples wives join us, but it all seemed a bit complicated in the end," the spokesman said. With the hub rejection ahead of the likely cancellation of the annual trip to Bali in June, there are now real concerns about the challenges players are facing in isolation. "Weve got blokes who have actually had to have conversations with their wives and children," the spokesman said, adding the only thing keeping spirits up is the thought of the first Wednesday evening when restrictions are eased and training resumes. "We will have enough credits built up to run a 5 day strategy meeting!," the spokesman said, with a faraway look and the hint of a tear in his eyes. Castlemaine Masters training runs from 6-7, each Wednesday night at the Camp Reserve, social distancing restrictions permitting. New players are most welcome once we all get back on the track.
