25.01.2022 Happy Birthday Sam Palmer. Nothing like a bit of post vintage cleaning in your birthday.

25.01.2022 "I’ve not tried an Australian riesling that’s looked this good at 14 years of age and certainly haven’t encountered one that will outlive it..." A lovely commentary on the development of our Riesling from The Real Review

23.01.2022 Halliday Wine Companion tasting team have picked our Riesling as one of this festive seasons best wines. "Castle Rock is pretty unbeatable for around $20. Is there any region and variety in the country that commands scores as high, with prices as low?" Thanks Erin Larkin ... https://bit.ly/3etZGFH

15.01.2022 Get to know the Great Southern Wine region. The Great Southern lies along the Southern Ocean on the coast of Western Australia. The pristine ocean and rugged... coastline is only part of a spectacular natural environment that includes the ancient Stirling and Porongurup Ranges, magnificent forest, visiting whales and a multitude of wildflowers in season. Great Southern wines are produced in five subregions characterised by unique geomorphic and climatic conditions. The subregions of Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup all produce distinctive fine wines that benefit from cool climate viticulture in a clean and green environment. The Great Southern region continues to develop an enviable reputation for producing world-class, cool climate wines, including stand out Syrah, Riesling and Shiraz.

11.01.2022 Today Angelo is on forklift duty for bottling. Angelo shared a story with us about his first time operating a forklift, moving pallets of wine at the old apple store in Mt Barker. Looks like all those years of practice paid off!

05.01.2022 "Refreshment, thy name is Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2020. As ever, Gardenia aromatics, ultra crisp lemon, lemongrass and grapefruit..." Thanks Andrew

05.01.2022 Gewurztraminer has always been a favoured variety in the family. It was planted here previously in 1984, but as yields were low, we decided to graft it out. Now we believe that we have a bit more knowledge to combat poor fruit set, plus trialling different root stocks may also help.... We look forward to producing some straight varietal wines and blends, along with the newly planted Grüner Veltliner in a few years time.

03.01.2022 It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a tipple of fortified wine and fruit mince pies. Luckily, the team have been busy in the winery today bottling Muscat. A delicate and youthful Muscat, that has been aged in oak barrels for an average of 5-7 years, showing luscious, rich and smooth flavours of raisins and lifted rose petals. ... Perfect to enjoy this festive season, or to add a luscious, rich flavour to your festive desserts with hints of orange rind and tangy marmalade. Head into the Cellar Door between 10am to 4.30 pm tomorrow for those last minute supplies. We will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reopening as normal on Sunday, 27 December.

03.01.2022 Join us at The Realm of #Riesling event on the first Sunday in summer. Tickets: https://www.trybooking.com/BLIUQ #castlerockestate #greatsouthernwine #winetasting #perthwine #whatsonwa #eatdrinkwa

03.01.2022 Cellar door is closed, you have to self isolate, so what else do you do? You build a stone wall of course

03.01.2022 Every vintage we cellar a small number of cases of each wine to see how they develop over time. These will generally be released with a number of years' bottle age in order to show the true potential of our wines. After tidying the cellar up we have decided to re-release our 2016 Castle Rock Estate Riesling as a museum wine as it is tasting extremely well now. The 2016 vintage was recently tasted by The Real Review, who described it, "A riper lemon essence character weaves t...hrough the palate, despite its low alcohol. So much latent citrus energy. Deceptive in its early charms. A stunning riesling; laser-like and tensile." This gave us the confidence to re-release this wine. We only have a limited number of cases, so let us know if you would like some. It is a wine that will certainly continue developing and maturing in the bottle with many more years in the cellar.

02.01.2022 Nice way to finish the week. Very tidy lineup of 2017 Chardy’s.

02.01.2022 Muscat bottling today!!!
