23.01.2022 Our pistachio tree, fruiting copiously right now. The male and female trees have the most elegant form. I love the graceful low sweep of their branches. And the parrots love the nuts!

23.01.2022 My 'mystery' rose! I struck it from a cutting 20 years ago.It was growing by the roadside in Coromandel Valley. It is now a vast bush, Spring flowering only. Trevor Nottle thinks it is 'Pax' but other gardeners aren't sure that it is. I hope to have rooted cuttings at our Open Garden on 21st and 22nd April.

20.01.2022 My new path. I am delighted with the look of the gravel. I wish I had used it years ago!

19.01.2022 I've been cutting back the roses here, with generous help from my friend Steph, in order for them to be blooming just when 'Casuarina' is open on the weekend of 21st and 22nd April. I hope I have calculated correctly! It is a ruthless, heart-wrenching process, slashing buds and new soft burgundy-coloured growth. These are some of the gorgeous flowers I salvaged. And out in the garden, there is not a skerrick of colour on any rose bush!

18.01.2022 Thank you for all your thoughts about our log fence! I shall post a final picture, if ever we come to an agreement about how we both think it should look!

16.01.2022 This little one was way up the steel verandah post when I first saw him. By the time I found my iPad, it had slipped down almost to the ground. It kept desperately trying to climb, until I lay that wood on its front legs. Then it slithered down and wandered off across the paddock, in search of a tree, I trust.

14.01.2022 My 'tortured' conifer, a generous gift from a good gardening friend. Its shadows are an unexpected delight.

14.01.2022 The heat has been searing, but the tiger lilies, roses and agapanthus are thriving. Please note the new fence, replacing the old Westringia hedges--it's a work in progress, but more on that later!

10.01.2022 View from our bedroom. Red-browed finches at our birdbath

09.01.2022 Yes, it's hot, but it is peaceful too. Kangaroo paws and candle bark gums (I grew them from seed--I am absurdly delighted with them!), and reeds beyond.

04.01.2022 Alister Clark's exquisite rose, 'Sunlit', from our sitting room window. It seems to flower endlessly.
