23.01.2022 MYTH-BUSTING MONDAY! Fact: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are... well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. Learn more and get ready at rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare #getreadyweekend

23.01.2022 They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun ... And in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to NSW Rural Fire Service Macarthurs own Brett Atkins from Menangle Park NSW RFS and Camden West Rural Fire Brigade for his recent achievement of Citizen of the Year in the Australia Day Civic Awards and Citizenship Ceremony. Good on you mate! https://www.macarthuradvertiser.com.au//communitys-top-v/... Brett Atkins doesnt wear a super hero uniform, but if he did, it would probably say something like: Im 4 Macarthur. Thats because apart from his day job with Nikon, everything else he does in his life is all about Camden and Campbelltown, and a bit of Wollondilly thrown in for good measure. Fifteen years after signing up as a volunteer fire fighter, Atkins is the captain of the Menangle Rural Fire Brigade. He is also deputy at a second unit, the Camden West Rural Fire Brigade. I joined the RFS at a time when there were a lot of fires and I had a little bit of time I could spare. My employer was supportive, and so I decided to give back, he says. Id been involved in the fire brigade back when I was a young fellow, but never wanted to become a fireman when I was growing up. Fire doesnt interest me but the community does. I dont put on the uniform to become a fireman, I put it on to help people.

22.01.2022 With an increase in the use of hand sanitiser, wed like to remind everyone that its ingredients are flammable. If youre planning a BBQ this weekend, please ensure that you completely dry your hands after using hand sanitiser before coming into contact with a naked flame.

22.01.2022 We are all facing uncertain times. As always, your local NSW Rural Fire Service brigades and all our emergency service colleagues are here to help our communities. We are following the advice of health professionals and the RFS. During this uncertain time we will maintain our core business, responding to emergencies in our community (with some additional precautions in place to mitigate potential spread), but all our other activities, without exception, have been put on hold.... We want all of you to take care of yourselves and your families. These are challenging and unprecedented times, but there are some relatively simple measures that you can take to contribute to the overall effort: - Stay at home where possible, avoid unnecessary travel. - Maintain good hygiene and social distancing. - Follow the advice of health professionals....now is not the time to play Dr Google. - Seek medical assistance through the appropriate channels if you are unwell (the NSW Health page has excellent information), and do not risk spread to family, friends, or the broader community. - Support local small businesses if you can. Many are still open for takeaway meals etc. - Treat each other kindly and look after our more vulnerable community members. There is no need to panic buy. Reach out for help if you need it. We will be here 24/7 for the community, this will not impact our ability to respond to emergencies when you need us most. Take care, Casula Fire Brigade. Ps..... Hoarding toilet paper is a fire hazard #stayhome

21.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY... Remember all that rain we had? Fact: Lots of rain means lots of fuel for bush and grass fires. It only takes a few days of hot, dry and windy weather to cure grass and make it... flammable. Make a bush fire survival plan so you know what you will do if theres a bush or grass fire near you. 19.01.2022 We wanted to say a big "thank you" to the incredible firefighters and community members who have done so much over the last few months. Its been a mammoth effo...rt from firefighters from all agencies, across all states and territories, and from the US, Canada and NZ. And when we say a big thank you, we mean big. Thanks to a very kind donation of ad space from Silvercast, weve taken the message to a 70 foot high billboard in NYC! #ThankYouFiries

14.01.2022 The Green Wattle Creek Fire, which has burnt through over 278,700 hectares in the Wollondilly area, South-West of Sydney is now CONTAINED as of tonight. Since this fire started on the 27th November 2019, it has been challenging; burning though some very difficult terrain, destroying property and tragically seeing the loss of life.

12.01.2022 Truck Fire, M7 Mwy | Cecil Hills Fire crews were dispatched just before 1PM to an incident on the M7. Crews from Casula, Kemps Creek, Middleton and Fire and Rescue NSW were dispatched to the scene. The situation was quickly contained by firefighters.

12.01.2022 In what has been a very traumatic, exhausting and anxious bush fire season so far, for the first time this season all bush and grass fires in NSW are now contai...ned. It has taken a lot of work by firefighters and emergency services as well as communities across the state to get to this point. We still have some time to go before the end of the bush fire season, so it is important that you and your family have a bush fire survival plan and know what you will do in the event a fire threatens.

12.01.2022 It is the end of an era at the NSW Rural Fire Service today. After more than 30 years in the Service, and after more than 12 years as Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons leaves the organisation today. Hes taking up a new role within NSW Government as the Commissioner of Resilience NSW and as Deputy Secretary of Emergency Management. Shane has seen us, and the community, through some of the toughest of conditions and experiences during this time.... We say farewell and thank you.

03.01.2022 We had posted about R U OKs new campaign "ARE THEY TRIPLE OK?" right before the fires took off. But now given whats happened over the past few months, its now more important than ever to look out for each other and encourage our states first responders to talk about whats on their mind. A simple" R U OK?" goes a long way.

02.01.2022 NSW RFS - Casula Brigade has given - and continues to give - so much to our local community. They were the first responders to our local bushfire in April 2018 ...and have helped protect communities right across NSW during the most recent fire season. Unfortunately at the end of last year, their base was hit by lightning during a storm - damaging some of their equipment. It was a pleasure to take the Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, to meet with them - and thank them for everything they do - and present them with $35,000 to replace the items that were damaged during the storm. I know this funding will help them get back up and running - ready for the next bushfire season.

01.01.2022 How many times have you heard (or said) "THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO BURN IN NSW?" FACT: Only 6.9% of NSW was impacted by bush fire in the 2019/20 fire season. This means there is a significant bush fire risk for the coming 2020/21 fire season. It only takes 5 minutes to improve or make a plan that will give your property, your family and yourself the best chance of survival. Get ready now at myfireplan.com.au #getreadyweekend
