22.01.2022 To all my friends and colleagues who have kept communities safe, medicine supply available and been open and available throughout this pandemic. Happy World Pharmacist day!
22.01.2022 What an honour to be recognised as one of the most nine influential female entrepreneurs in small business as part of IWD. Community pharmacy IS the small business backbone of every community throughout Australia yet our workforce is under-utilised to make significant impact on the health of these communities. The innovation in my business’ is all about harnessing the trust of the local pharmacist by coordinating access to healthcare teams within this environment. #HealthHub https://www.smh.com.au//buy-from-the-bush-campaign-born-on

21.01.2022 Australians are being frustrated by long waiting times and high out-of-pockets for routine health issues. Patients are already comfortable asking their pharmaci...sts for advice to treat basic health issues, like common coughs and colds, and by matching the scope of pharmacists in Canada and the UK they can help relieve out of pockets and reduce waiting times. If we don’t better use our professional and trained frontline healthcare staff, like pharmacists, costs will continue to go up while our growing and ageing population will place even more pressure on overburdened doctors and emergency departments. 21.01.2022 For all community pharmacists The emergency plan for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been activated and we are in the initial stage of the action phase of this plan. This page outlines principles for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic preparedness for pharmacists in charge in community pharmacies. Pharmacists in charge should consider these actions immediately. ... NSW Health will provide further advice as the situation continues to evolve. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au///covid-19-preparedness.aspx
20.01.2022 No surprises that there is an increase in opioid prescribing. Pulling codeine from pharmacy was NEVER the answer, REAL time recording and checking was. 80% of community pharmacy voluntarily recorded codeine use on a real time monitoring system that the Pharmacy Guild invested in yet we were made the scape goat. ... A system exists in some states and territories to record and prevent abuse but not in all including NSW. We have the solutions and yet years later it is wound up in politics instead of patient safety. https://www.theage.com.au//australia-s-opioid-crisis-death
18.01.2022 NSW pharmacists will be allowed to administer flu vaccination to children aged 10 and up from mid-March, the state government has announced
18.01.2022 The great partnership between the commonwealth and community pharmacy is retained for the benefit of all Australians. It was glad to play my role on the negotiating team for the great profession that is community pharmacy.
16.01.2022 APP next week has been Postponed. Devastating news for the industry but perhaps better news for our patients who need us more than ever right now. #COVID19 https://ajp.com.au/news/app-postponed-online-event-planned/
16.01.2022 Get the flu shot early this year! And with the call for mass vaccination it’s time for NIP to be available through community pharmacy.
15.01.2022 Proud to be invited by one of my favourite lecturers and now Pharmacy Dean, Professor McLauchlan, to address the newest pharmacy students. This was for the welcome to profession address and where they all took (and I retook) The Oath to Pharmacists.
15.01.2022 We need to take a wholistic approach to medicine safety in Agedcare by utalising and investing in the network of community pharmacies to achieve higher quality, safety and care. https://pharmacydaily.com.au/n/compare-the-pair-guild/86342

13.01.2022 A pharmacist is a pharmacist and can work to full scope regardless of where they work. The AMA just want pharmacists to be their Lackies not to use their clinical knowledge where the public access them the most. We are already precribing, it’s called schedule 3. There aren’t two tiers of pharmacists! We are all trained equally. The Association (AMA) said it supported models where non-medical health practitioner prescribing occurs in a medically led and delegated team environment, and firmly opposed any prescribing by pharmacists working in, employed by, or associated with, a retail pharmacy. https://issues.pharmacydaily.com.au/2019/Apr19/pd120419.pdf
12.01.2022 A temporary special authority has been issued by the NSW Chief Health Officer until 31 March 2020 for supply of prescription medicines from a community pharmacy in emergencies in a #bushfire affected area in NSW. Read more: http://ow.ly/NWRb50xPIRT

11.01.2022 Chris Bowen MP came into the pharmacy this week to thank pharmacists accross the country for World Pharmacist Day. With great pleasure I watched my extraordinary team of pharmacists demonstrate the range of services they deliver each and every day to ensure the health of their community. I’m proud as punch of this team and to be part of the greater network of pharmacists! Happy World Pharmacist Day! https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=share&v=AuTXxC0A05Y

10.01.2022 Despite the phenomenal increase uptake from the public to have their vaccinations in pharmacy, our NSW health minister (unlike Victoria) is yet to allow pharmacy to vaccinate those that need it most, the elderly and pregnant, on the NIP in community pharmacy. Uniformity and increased access of the NIP through community pharmacies accross the country will allow for better forecasting of stock and easier access by those that need it most.
10.01.2022 Pharmacists should be aware of this communique from the Federal Department of Health regarding novel coronavirus. https://www.health.gov.au/healt/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov
10.01.2022 Pharmacist should be recognised as a discipline in their own right and access the MBS when delivering services regardless of their place of practice. Indeed it is the pharmacists that is ‘embedded’ in the community, that sees the patient 18 times a year, that is trusted by this community and already works closely with surrounding GPs that we should be supporting to deliver this collaborative care. Trying to embed pharmacist solely in GP practices is a duplication of care and will lead to even more fracturing of the healthcare for a patient. Let’s be real, pharmacists can make a huge difference but let’s ensure they are ‘embedded’ where they can be accessed and make that difference. https://ajp.com.au/news/a-long-history-of-misunderstanding/
09.01.2022 I gave Dr Hugh McDermott MP, Member of Prospect, a flu shot today in our 24/7 Pharmacy in Wetherill Park. Dad has owned the business for 36 years and we have never faced anything like this. Hugh spent time understanding the real issues we are facing on the frontline like safety of our staff, access to critical medicine for our patients and calling for mass immunisation against the flu for our community.

08.01.2022 LANDMARK SPECIAL AUTHORITY FOR NSW RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY BUSHFIRES TO ACCESS ESSENTIAL MEDICINES New South Wales (NSW) residents affected by the bushfire crisis will now be able to access a standard PBS or manufacturers pack quantity of their Prescription Only Medicines (Schedule 4) without a prescription following the issuing of a special authority by the NSW Chief Health Officer, a move strongly welcomed by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA). Under the special au...thority announced last night, NSW pharmacists will be able to supply people affected by the bushfires with standard PBS quantities and standard pack sizes of non-PBS medicines without a prescription when where a pharmacist is satisfied there is an immediate therapeutic need and obtaining a prescription is impractical. In most cases, this represents a months' supply of that medicine. See more
07.01.2022 Pharmacies are an often overlooked, but important part of our community healthcare infrastructure. This year more people than ever have received the flu shot, h...elping to reduce the load on our hospitals. Local pharmacies throughout the Prospect Electorate were integral to this effort. 06.01.2022 Thank you to the Hon. Dr Hugh McDermott for calling out the Great effort of Pharmacists throughout Austalia and the Prospect Area who have kept their doors open whilst continuing to care for patients throughout this COVID19 lockdown!
06.01.2022 Pick and choose that pharmacy not just based on price, but based on service and continuity of that service. Article source: https://www.9news.com.au//8a85da1e-9fbc-423e-92af-8372e9c3
06.01.2022 The Hon. Greg Hunt MP Minister for Health Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service and Cabinet ... An open letter to the Community Pharmacy Sector Dear pharmacists and community pharmacy staff, Let me start by thanking you for your extraordinary dedication and service to the Australian community. The stresses and strains are real. The Prime Minister, myself and the whole Cabinet have seen the immense work being undertaken under extreme pressure. Many of you are working around the clock, literally, to ensure that critical medicines and health advice is available for those who need it most. We could not be more appreciative or thankful.
05.01.2022 Pharmacists cannot continue to pay for bad policy decisions that are creating severe medication shortages for patients. We do it because we care but it comes at a cost.
03.01.2022 Community Pharmacists around the country and working tirelessly in an every changing landscape and yet we have no certainty and no acknowledgement. I put pen to paper.
02.01.2022 It just makes common sense that in emergencies pharmacists can dispense a full box of medication (for patients who are stable) at full PBS subsidised price, instead of three days only at a private price. The benefits to patients are great, the reduced burden and savings on health system is a no brainer. It should just be continued indefinitely.
02.01.2022 This pharmacist is a real life hero. He has lost his home to fires yet he still serves the community in its darkest hour. Very moving.... https://www.sbs.com.au//amid-the-ruins-of-the-nsw-bushfire
01.01.2022 Great win for female Australians! Better access to oral contraceptives and UTI antibiotics. Pharmacists can do so much more!
